Peter Hitchens calling anybody 'dogmatic' is beyond irony.
But he isn’t running a cuntry
Why? He changes his mind frequently.
He did say that neither Cameron May, Johиsoи, Truss nor Sunak really believed in anything.
Hard to call him dogmatic when almost no other public figure says the things he does and most people don't agree with him
@@towhichwayout So does Keir Starmer.
What does Hitchens even stand for? He is arrogant, dismissive, patronising.
Who knows, he's against everything and everyone.
Yes....this former communist stands for his own moral and intellectual superiority.
The only time Peter Hitchens cheers up is when he talks about his memories of visiting Russia. He has a 'chocolate box' view of Russian culture.
Indeed
The guy (Hitchens) hates to be challenged. Check out his interview with TH-camr Alex O'Connor. It's fascinating to watch an old man behave like a toddler.
I have my own dislikes about Starmer but it is the Conservatives own fault that they ended up in this mess.
I'm sticking with the Tories.
It's been 8 years since the ref, and 4 years since we left and we're still the world's 6th richest country by nominal GDP. All the doomsayers said we'd be a third world nation by now.
I have confidence in how the Tories are managing Brexit (which I didn't support by the way).
However it is early days, as it is now, the Tories are the only party in modern times that has experience governing Brexit Britain.
Labour has no such experience.
Now is not the time to change governments.

As a Labour sympathiser i do hope Mr Hitchins is right. I was resigned to the new government having very little power to change society largely because of lack of funding. He seems convinced Starmer has deep idealogical beliefs. The rest of us await confirmation.
funny how the election has been turned on its head lol
Lack of funding is an understatement, we have a huge deficit, as the government has to pay back old gilts/bonds they have to borrow more money at higher interest rates to pay the original bond holder back. That means the percentage of the tax receipt spent on interest will sky rocket further. I am saying this from a non political perspective, there is no more money to be borrowed unless you would like to see interest rates in double digits. This country is in a severe sovereign debt crisis and without cutting spending on something and getting it under country it will get worse and worse. Who ever wins this election is going to be handed a ticking time bombs and it will probably go off before the end of the year. I wish our so called leaders had been straight up with the country and told them how bad the issue is but instead they called an early election so they could get out of dodge before the bomb explodes. Did you not find it odd at how they called an election with only 6 weeks notice or how they seem to be doing everything they can to lose?
The lack of funding is a lie they tell you. Since 1844, the UK Govt has had the legal monopoly on the creation of the pound. The UK can never run out of its own currency. Even the BoE have repeated this many times and written papers on money creation being adding zeros to bank balance. Buying resources in Sterling is never a problem. If the Government can issue it's currency it never needs to borrow it's own currency. We had 250% debt after the war yet here we still are in 2024 and the sky didn't fall in. Japan took out a 'loan', form the central bank, the Central Bank it owns, to pay off it's own 'debt'. Any loan payments made by the Japanese Govt, are returned to the Government account in BoJ. That's how ridiculous it is. It's just a book-keeping exercise. This is how Govts and Central banks work.
How are you sure the “deep ideological beliefs” you so hope will be put into practice will bring forth the kind of wonderful world you are hoping for?
@@Ti-up3dv I can't be sure but I definitely know the Tories will continue with their incompetence if re-elected. I am not expecting a wonderful world.

This guy Hitchins is just so flaky it's unbelievable, what is his actual qualification for giving out opinions??? What has he actually done in life??? He's never been a politician or a SPAD, nor is he an academic, he has no expert knowledge or authority. It really annoys me when people present themselves as experts when they haven't walked the walk. Don't tolerate it.
Like most people on these programs he has been a journalist for his whole adult life. He would actually probably consider himself an expert on left wing politics because he was part of the Trotsky movement during his youth and later lived and worked in Soviet Russia as a correspondent for the Daily Express
@@michaelmccomb2594so he’s projecting his own earlier naiveties on everyone else?
@@patrikfloding7985 I assume he would said on the far-left side, that he has experience being part of the movement, so he knows how these people think, in a way that people without his experience don’t.
He doesn't present himself as an expert, in fact he often points it out. How can you assume he has no credentials when you know nothing about him and haven't bothered to find out?
Hes a journalist and disillusioned former far left socialist, he knows a fair bit about the far left that isn't obvious from near the centre.
No one forces candidates to stand as MPS, so they choose to put themselves up for the job- and like any job, your boss can 'let you go'
Stadler: "Oooooo Kate...Kate...are you going to let the bad man get away with saying something i mistakenly thouhgt he said" 😂
Fool.
The editor messed up.. the glove puppet remark repeated twice
They do it every time. It's not in error.
People frequently object.
They're a professional media organisation.
We must be the wrong headed ones.
I think we’re all aware of the ideological shift to the right that Britain has been subjected to for the last 14 years!
So according to Hitchens, Thatacher was nt a radical? She was nt fixed on the free market and her 'friends' did nt do well from the privatisation ofoil and gasand all the nations essential utilies ?
Not an Ideology shift! My god! What will we do if a government isn’t perusing austerity?! The horror!
What's he suggesting we should stick with the Tories lol.
He's a Tory, so of course he's going to say that. They all do.
Ironically after years of saying that they have to be destroyed to enable real political change. Ever the contrarian.
@@jackdubz4247He’s not a Tory. He despises the Tory party the same as the rest of us. He just also despises all other current parties.
@@mw89181 - that doesn't actually get us anywhere does it?
The fact that the electorate knows the uniparty is going to act against their interests does not require them to assume Farage will do the same thing
@@richardenders6606 No, but even if Farage's intentions are decent and honest, Reform voters will ultimately end up disappointed. The very name of the party is a joke because the system cannot be reformed. It has to be dismantled and replaced, and that cannot be done via the ballot box. The rot in this country runs DEEP. A fresh coat of paint will only do more harm as it tricks us into thinking we've solved the problem while in reality it only worsens. And the longer we delay doing what must be done, the more likely it is it cannot be done.
Ah yes, the "lesser Hitchens". Chalk and cheese. Starmer would be some sort of paradigm shift?! Relative to his evident, baseless and self-indulgent paranoia - yes! Down the rabbit hole you go, Hitchens the Lesser! If only we could make this sobriquet stick...
Western Democracy = Guided Democracy.
"Guided democracy, also called managed democracy, is a formally democratic government that functions as a de facto authoritarian government or, in some cases, as an autocratic government. Such hybrid regimes are legitimized by elections, but do not change the state's policies, motives, and goals."
Will someone tell Peter Hichins to get his false teeth fitted properly listening to him speak and whistle at the same time gave me a headache.
Act one, day one for PM Starmer, a 1000% tax rise for bellends like Hitchens and his ilk. I'd certainly vote for *that*. Sadly, the bloke's too fair to seek such petty revenge on clueless knobs. After all, he's not a Tory, is he?
Labour's ideological dogmatism has escaped me entirely. They could hardly be more bland if they tried.
In my 24 years of living in this country i have not once been able to identify with any parties policies. I cant see how any of the parties policies do anything for the younger generation whatsoever. The youth are stagnated and none of them are going to do anything to fix that.
The country does not back another right wing government. It never did in the first place. It's only because the left wing and centre vote was split several ways while the right wing vote has never been split at allwirh only the one right wing party they could vote for contesting general elections combined with the archaic FPTP electoral system seen Thstcher, Cameron, Johnson and co be in government even though the tories never once achieved 50% of the vote.
Don’t forget the ‘No Vote’ brigade ....I believe a lot of people just wont bother in protest to whole damn lot of them!
Not-voting is a meaningless protest.
If you are a proffesional journalist, you report the news. This character isn't a journalist.
he's a columnist.
The lesser of the two brothers by a long way rambles on with his usual contrarian nonsense. Why give this silly fella airtime?
The problem is there's no money to lavish on public services and there's always resistance to productivity increases. Whether we will get growth without inflation is another concern.
Axiom of political thought - if Peter Hitchens thinks something is bad, then it's probably good.
Peter, you have my sympathy, switching from authoritarian oligarchy to democracy will be a big ideological shift for you.
How is Net zero worth it,if we ship our industry off to china or india, whats the percentage the UK contributes to carbon in our atmosphere?,compared to the above mentioned countries, its a total waste of time
Diddums. Is Toryboy Peter worried his off shore financial arrangements might actually be taxed? What a shame
His top lip is completely immobile
A Gary Anderson puppet?
Hitchens is completely bonkers but I'd still rather chat to him than Stadlen.
people take this guy seriously and think hes some man of wisdom because he puts on a posh accent.
Hope Labour don't raid the pensions again 😢
Oh Peter, I often agree with some of your observations on the modern world, but you are hopelessly off the mark here. Starmer may be more radical than he is currently letting on, but he is more likely to be rather boring. This threat to the country nonsense, is just that, nonsense.
Oh, I expect we'll soon have someone from military top brass going on the record with their alarm and dismay at the prospect of the country falling into the hands of the reds.
Again.
"A Very British Coup" was a very prescient work of fiction I thought when they did that to Corbyn last time.
Bore off Peter 😂
