Wireless Layout Control through JMRI with a Phone or Tablet

- Controlling your layout using a computer with JMRI is amazing, but what if you want to walk around your layout, away from the computer, and still have control?
Well that's where you need a wireless controller! With JMRI it's really quick and easy to connect your phone or tablet and use this to run your layout from just about anywhere.

Another success!
I was amazed by the Engine Driver App.
It was so easy to set up following your instructions.
Loads of Functions, more than enough for my class 37 ESU loksound decoder!!
I was taken by surprise by the fact that because i had a table of turnouts open on JMRI, they appeared in the points section on the app, and i was able to control them from my phone!
Have to get my layout finished, my slow moving servo operated points installed, and start experimenting with automation.

Great video - EngineDriver also allows for Points, Route controls - swipe right from the train control screen or select them from the hamburger menu, top right.
Good to know. I need to have a proper play around with these apps and see what they're capable of.
@@LittleWicketRailway we use the MERG DCC controller for my lad, I use EngineDriver on my phone and we have a touch screen raspberry PI for turnouts, block detection etc.
When you do a review of the Lionel HO Polar Express set you can do the Blu-tooth app.
I'll definitely try 👍 Gotta get my hands on one first though.
Thank you for the explanation of how to use Wifi with JMRI. I'm using Engine Driver and it works fine on my mobile phone. The only thing I am in trouble with is the F2 key. In JMRI under preferences there is a selection box for "F2 always momentary". When unchecked F2 works as a switch on/ off. In Engine driver the F2 key also works momentary but I could not find any selection box to change it to an on/ off switch. Do you have any solution how to change this? Thank you for your help and keep on with your work.
Great video Rob out of the two ways which is the more reliable. Can you also use the pc at the same time as the smartphone/tablet

Pretty sure you can use the computer at the same time. I like the Engine Driver app, but that's purely because I've more experience with it.
Do you have a video for running your layout with wifi through the internet?
Would this allow each of my kids to control their own engine?
Yes, if you've got two devices both installed with engine driver connected to the same server. You can even select the same train on both devices and fight over the control 😂
