Your pauses to explain the context and info about phrases and culture are one of my favorite aspects of your playthrough so far. I really appreciate you listening to feedback and turning this into a series! Glad you enjoy Kuze's backpiece, as tattoos are just as important to the characters in the game as they were in the heyday of the IRL Yakuza. In the case of Kuze, his back is Enma and he's got Gozu and Mezu on either arm. SUPER cool. Looking forward to the future episodes! As I mentioned before, be careful about saving, since unless you save until it says "game saved" afterward, it's possible to corrupt your inventory. A rare, but potential bug. This doesn't affect forced saves between chapters, though. Those are always safe. As for episode length, whatever you're coolest with is what will be best. Whether it's a half hour or an hour or twenty hours, we'll show up lol.
You and kuze are about to be very well aquatinted throughout this game😭 really hope you manage to play through all the games, the story is so good I can’t even explain it
Ah yes. The tattoo on Kuze's back is Enma. In Asian mythology the King(god) of the underworld. It is Enma who decides if a soul is meant to be in hell or not. We'll circle back to the significance of this to Kuze
The plot is giving at this point i love it ! And congrats for winning against Kuze ! I won't lie, i really like him for a lot of reasons but then again, they're all so well written. As for Kiryu, he's such a good protagonist and i'm really attached to him in this game. And thank you so much for explaining and giving context to the game, it makes me love Zero even more, especially since idk that much about Japanese culture ! It's so funny because i said you'd be so good at playing Yakuza and here we are ! Btw, i don't mind longer videos because of how entertaining it is ! See you next time, Jahara, stay amazing !
"This is a game called Yakuza about a man who is not going be a Yakuza?" I think someone pointed out in a previous video, but this game series is actually called "Like a Dragon", or "龍が如く" in Japan, it's not about the Yakuza, but about Kiryū. It became "Yakuza" in the West for branding sake, it's easier to grab your attention with the name of the japanese mafia. This game in particular is called: "Like a Dragon 0: The Place of Oath" in Japan.
In the scene where Kuze's brother takes responsibility, Jahara was so surprised that I couldn't help but laugh. But from a foreigner's perspective, it may be natural to be surprised by the Yakuza custom of having to cut off one's finger if one makes a mistake. When you meet a former Yakuza, you may find that they are missing some fingers. If there are only a few fingers left, you may think to yourself, "Ah, this person must have made a lot of mistakes." However, in reality, it is not just because they made a mistake, but also as a sign of apology and sincerity to the person with whom they had a dispute. By the way, there was a scene where carefully wrapped the cut finger in a handkerchief, but it seems that in reality, cut fingers are sometimes kept in a jar of formalin.
I have watched a few people try this game out recently, and you're by far one of the better, more entertaining individuals to give this a runthrough. You're voices during text-only dialogue is very well suited in patterns and mannerisms and though your navigation of the combat is a bit rough and basic, I can see you're slowly learning the ropes and getting better with every encounter. I haven't watched a more entertaining Yakuza 0 LP since the first Y0 LP I watched many years ago (which got me into the series) by the youtuber NicoB. It's a CRIME you don't get more views than you have thus far.
Found you through Bayonetta but loving this! Hearing you explain the translations and cultute is intetesting! Im learning as im watching you watching you playing! Like not tiping, I truly did not know that could be offensive as its so normal here! So please keep going! You will love Kiryu, hes so stoic but so full of emotion
I'm so happy that you're enjoying my ALL TIME FAVORITE game series! I love hearing your commentary and i genuinely like hearing your in depth knowledge of the japanese language! I feel like it gives me more context and tone of what the characters are saying and it feels like I'm experiencing this a game for the first time again! I hope you enjoy the rest of the game and continue with the series in the future~ I'm so excited for you to meet one of my TOP fave characters soon hehe
As someone who played almost every game; rewatching you is like a brand new playthrough for me with you filling in the gaps where certain parts weren’t translated correctly. Also, get used to Kuze lol
19:50 I was confused by that at first, too. His name is Kiryu Kazuma. Kiryu is his surname, Kazuma is his given name. His boss/father figure is Kazama Shintaro. Having Kiryu's first name be one vowel sound different from his father figure's last name is confusing.
Yeah, that has always been confusing in general to fans of series and they never address whether Kiryu's name is Kazuma by coincidence or he changed it to be similar to Kazama because he looked up to him so much as a child at the ophanage.
GURL if you like kiryu in this game... this series is gonna be a ride for you. Man ages like the finest of wines. The thing that pops up in the upper right sometimes indicates you can do a heat action with Y btw.
Regarding the end, I'm definitely down for longer than an hour per episode. And with how long these games are (0 being one of the longer ones) it might be necessary to get through the story at a good pace. Btw I'm playing through the series myself right now and just caught up to the latest game that released so its really exciting to see someone else doing the same. I hope you enjoy this game enough to check out the others 😁
Kiryu is the best, over the games you get to live out his entire life with him, he becomes like another member of the family. He is one of the best protagonists out there and there’s a whole discussion going on around how he actually shows how you get to see him coming to grips with aging and slowing down over the games.
i would love to see longer vods of this id also love to see you playing live on stream as well and hearing you talk about the japanese behind it is very informative
I'm loving this playthrough, and all the commentary you bring to it. Feel free to pause any time you have something cool to share or explain. It's always very interesting. I like the hour format per episode. You can make some good progress, but still limit things to a reasonable timeframe. There's no way I can sit and watch TH-cam for 2-3 hours, no matter how much I am enjoying it. If you do end up playing for longer sessions, my suggestion is to at least keep the videos to an hour max and just upload them more frequently. Just my two cents, of course it is up to you.
Kyōdai has also become a sort of nickname fellow fans of the series refer to each other as. So, if you consider yourself a new fan of the games, you and I are Kyōdai! Welcome to Yakuza/like a dragon, Kyōdai! ❤
reminder you can use Y to hit enemies that are on the ground, you dont have to wait for them to get up :3 edit: the way you button mashed through a qte hurt ngl
So, Atlus West worked on this localization, and the addition of words that aren't in the original Japanese, according to them, is an attempt to convey the tone or level of disrespect some of the very informal language conveys.
Honestly I've been surprised by the leaps ahead that background noise cancelation has made in the last few years. I guess it makes sense with so many more video calls being made. But these days it's _extremely_ unusual to hear anything in the background that isn't a human voice. I don't pick up your dog at all.
Everyone is in love with Kiryu. He is the best boy. Then the Yakuza 6 engine hits and you see that Kiryu dumpy and fall in love again
Yeah, the Dragon Engine comes in at Kiwami 2.

Glad to see a new yakuza player actually appreciating Kiryu as a protagonist.

Yup Kiryu is only in the Yakuza for about 3 hours total across the gameplay of the entire series.
I'd definitely be in favor of 2-3 hour episodes as time flies by so quickly when playing these games.

Enough so that they changed it in the original English dub of Yakuza 1.
Yeah, that has always been confusing in general to fans of series and they never address whether Kiryu's name is Kazuma by coincidence or he changed it to be similar to Kazama because he looked up to him so much as a child at the ophanage.
@rngwrldngnr There is no Yakuza 1 English dub in Ba Sing Se
GURL if you like kiryu in this game... this series is gonna be a ride for you. Man ages like the finest of wines. The thing that pops up in the upper right sometimes indicates you can do a heat action with Y btw.
Lets go the series continues🎉🎉
Hell yeah!
Loving this playthrough and your insights, thank you!
Absolutely love your contexts about the language differences, making me see one of my favorite games of all time in a whole new light
13:56 absolutely! kiryu is great! hes an incredible character for sure. plus was super happy to see another episode today :-)
Another episode already?! I'm loving it😎👍
You’ve inspired me to try learning Japanese again, notice how I said “try” because I attempted it before but I gave up on it 😂
New subscriber! I love seeing new people getting into the yakuza series, can't wait for it to continue
Welcome!!

I about choked at 56:38 - woops😂 Head canon-ing that you are Kiryu’s internal suspicious monologue from here on out.
i would love to see longer vods of this id also love to see you playing live on stream as well and hearing you talk about the japanese behind it is very informative

im glad u like kiryu because my favourite character in the entire series... i love him so much
Ill never get over Kiryu giving buddy a swirlie xD
Kyōdai has also become a sort of nickname fellow fans of the series refer to each other as. So, if you consider yourself a new fan of the games, you and I are Kyōdai! Welcome to Yakuza/like a dragon, Kyōdai! ❤
Her not locking onto the enemies is driving me crazy ngl xD
You can lock onto enemies by holding down RB and to block attacks it’s LB
I love it keep playing ❤ I still need to finish 4&5
Since you're using a controller, R1 is your best friend. Especially for Rush Style. It's your lock-on button, which is pretty self explanatory.
I'm very much trying my hardest to catch up on all the videos I missed LOL!
Multitasking goes a long way today.
very brutal
I'm a big horror fan, but gore is my weakness. I was right there with you, covering my eyes when *that scene* was happening.
Great stuff Jahara!
Ooh, the plot thickens with 2 Cs 👀😲 (btw the fight with Kuze was neat 😁)
reminder you can use Y to hit enemies that are on the ground, you dont have to wait for them to get up :3
edit: the way you button mashed through a qte hurt ngl
Lol honestly same. My only previous experience with qtes is Bayonetta, and I sucked at those 😂 looks like I’ll need to practice
Kiryu is 100000% goated, i'd describe him as a Square with an Edge lol.
So, Atlus West worked on this localization, and the addition of words that aren't in the original Japanese, according to them, is an attempt to convey the tone or level of disrespect some of the very informal language conveys.
Totally down for longer episodes!
Kiryu is the greatest man ever
Our girl stay button mashing lmao. But hey it worked for her
LOL listen as soon as it stops working I’ll tighten up 😂
I think the worst part is it’s rush style, it hits weakly when it’s not upgraded and is probably the worst in the early game.
Don't forget to spend money on yourself, my boy! I mean, literally 😊
In QTEs you have to stop and press the button they're showing on the screen
I know WHAT to do, my reaction time is just slow lol
3 hour run please 😮
Moreeee plss
可愛い😊
