    Just purchased a carnival sx a month ago. One of the most comfortable rides ever along with it will turn on a dime and once you put ceramic tint on the windows you will be 10 degrees cooler giving you a great ride. Carnival has great pull while getting on the freeways and is excellent on gas. I was able also to fit three car seats in the third row side by side!

    After watching this video, I’m definitely choosing the Kia Carnival for my next family vehicle. I have been a Toyota customer for well over a decade owning 5 sedans from Yaris to Camry until I got married started having a family. I currently own my first Kia, which is a Sorento, and has been great. But with our growing family, the Carnival will definitely be my wife and I’s next choice. Thank you for helping in the decision.

    I want a minivan back with a traditional column shifter option and where one can still climb into the rear seats to attend to the kids without having to get out of the van in the rain and snow. I want a mini-van with less clap trap features that I never wanted or asked for. I don't like when modern tastes in visual appeal take away from useful and efficient functionality that makes owning a mini-van so sensible and practical. I like a van to be a van and not a van trying to identify as a car. I guess I'm just a fan of older designs. Cars today are WAY over-priced and full of features you don't need to get the job done. Whatever happened to an affordable vehicle that every day middle class consumers can afford without breaking the bank.

    I own the Carnival and it is an amazingly comfortable vehicle on long drives. On the road, I get 28-30 mpg. At that rate, the Sienna would take a long time to make up for the cost of fuel difference. Add the additional cost of the hybrid and unless you plan on driving it until the wheels turn square, the Kia is the best value proposition hands down.

I didn't think the XSE would be THAT much stiffer... well, it is folks. Great video - and excellent comparison so far …I’ve just reached the part where you’re road testing the cars. Believe this or not - I timed your acceleration with a stopwatch just now. Not once, but thrice - and every time the Toyota (9.2xx seconds) is faster than the Kia (9.7xx seconds) - by around a quarter of a second. I’m guessing this is a result of the instant torque from the rear hybrid motor that more than makes up for the smaller petrol engine. I couldn’t believe my eyes - because the Kia _sounds faster_ with that lovely V6 roar as it moves through its gears while the Toyota sounds whiny and unimpressive with its CVT droning away. Nevertheless the Toyota wins on that count as far as I can see. I’m looking to get a minivan in the next 6 months …and chances are it’ll be a Sienna - the safety-net of the AWD system is attractive although it’ll cost a little more upfront. Also, if it’s pure acceleration and driving oomph you want, the Honda Odyssey is way faster than both the Toyota and Kia. Enjoying your comparison video - thanks!

      They both have 3rd row stow and go, Kia I believe the middle seats can be removed easily, sienna is a pain and requires turning off air bag sensors last I knew. 😅 I am wanting to KNOW for certain the same question.

    • @L-pz9dv
      @L-pz9dv 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can double check the specs at Kia America, but at least for the 2024 Carnival, I'm quite confident the middle row seats can be removed in the LX, EX, & SX, but NOT the top-of-the-line Prestige SX. You should be able to find videos showing how easily the seats are removed in the lower trim levels.
      As noted earlier, it's a challenge with the Sienna.

  • @andrewp1323

    Was first looking for a sienna but the prices were outrageous. Even the older and high mile siennas were selling higher priced than other vans with less miles. I know that toyota is reliable but the mark up is due to high demand. The transmission may be 200k+ and still running but everything else in the vehicle is going out. Engine is leaking oil. Doors auto locks not locking right. Window motor going out. Car stereo not responding to buttons, etc. The the repairs become frequent as everything in the vehicle is passed its expiration date. If i cant go on a road trip with a peace of mind, a new or semi new car would be more reliable in that point.

    $7500 is a lot of difference, hard to argue against the advantage, but giving the Kia 3.5 points for that seem excessive, especially after you self admitted that resell value of a Sienna is much better. Most of that additional cost would be the hybrid system, with the Carnival MVP hybrid coming out for 2025, I think it might be a good follow-up comparison. Good Video, but my daughter (new mother) is looking for a new car and she asked about the Kia and in general I told her that I recommend a Toyota, because 3-4 years from now, the Toyota will drive like day 1, the Kia brand (while much improved) has had a history of issues. I might be a little bias because I have had 2 Sienna, a 2005 that had 300,000 miles when I gave it to my daughter to drive home to Texas from Maryland and had no apprehension about it making it. My wife and I currently have a 2017 with 130,000 and it drives the same as the day we bought it.....

    Cool review. I honestly would have given the Toyota reliability at least 3 points since stats say the Kia will not be worth the price after 5yrs where you either have to get a new one or pay to up keep. Plus the hybrid has savings should have offset the price of the Kia vs Sienna. Eventually the Sienna would be cheaper on just these 2 things alone. I don't think people who buy minis will be wanting a new one every 5 years.

      Have you checked what your local Toyota dealer is tacking on as a "market adjustment" aka price gouging compared to Kia dealers? Also, mandatory "VIP" add-ons? The ~$7,000 price difference may well be another $5,000-$7,000 or more to get the Sienna.

Also, be sure to check if the dealers are forcing you to buy exprnsive mandatory "VIP" add-ons that you don't want. Some Kia dealers were adding the packages, too, but for far less.

    I wish like the drivers seat that all seats in front and rear row were fully adjustable up and down and heated also i wish the second and first row could swivel out to allow passengers to sit facing out while entering and exiting and raise and lower for easier entrance and exit also hybid mode battery should last 10miles not 1mile in traffic. A better road noise insullation package also should be offered. A plug in hybrid should be offered for trips under 150miles.

    The only use case i have for a minivan, and why we purchased a Sienna is because our child kicks, and in a sienna you can push the seat to a point where he cannot kick the front passenger or driver seat. This feature is not available in any other car sold in the US. Every Sienna review i have seen does not talk about this feature and use case.

    I think that you guys missed on the price evaluation grade evaluation.. Yes you graded price and factored in fuel efficiency but I think the differences are more significant. if you keep your cars for 10 years with 150k of use with 60% city and 40% highway with the average price of gas being $3.62 (something we can't count on), it would cost $26G for the Kia and 15G for the Sienna (rounded numbers). That is a chunk of change. I plan on doing 250K miles with a ratio of 80\20% so my savings would not be $10 grand but rather $12 G. Add Toyota reliability and a tried and tested hybrid technology over the last 2 decades and I know which van I'm looking at. Thanks for a sound analysis for the most part.

    • @L-pz9dv
      @L-pz9dv 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How much is the "market adjustment" at your Toyota dealer vs. the Kia dealer? Maybe my market was different, but I got a Kia at MSRP and no fake mandatory VIP packages. Otherwise, I probably would have traded my 2009 Sienna in on a new Sienna. Also, I'm now a low-mileage driver so the fuel savings isn't a major factor for me & I like the oomph of the V6 since drivers are extremely aggressive in my area.

    Oh, the age-old debate: Toyota vs Kia! Both car brands have their own unique qualities and offerings. Toyota is known for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and resale value. On the other hand, Kia has been making strides with stylish designs, advanced technology, and competitive pricing. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and what you prioritize in a car. NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) reached a settlement potentially worth $150 million to resolve U.S. class-action litigation tied to recalls of about 3.36 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles whose defective fuel pumps could cause engines to stall.
      A preliminary settlement was filed on Wednesday night in federal court in Brooklyn. It requires a judge's approval.
      The settlement covers owners and lessees of dozens of Toyota and Lexus vehicle models manufactured in the 2013 to 2020 model years and equipped with Denso low-pressure fuel pumps.

    Actual cost of ownership will be less in the Sienna. Consider purchase price and then resale value. Kia will be cheaper to buy but will not hold its value. Add in fuel and the cost is settled.
    Having just sold a 2011 Sienna and waiting for our 2024 to arrive, it is quite apparent that the Sienna will continue to be the winner long term. People line up to buy the used ones.
    Assuming 10k miles a year the Sienna will save you over $3300 a year.
    2011 Kia Sedona $5000
    2011 Sienna $15000
    Kia has come a long way though.
