For him to engage in this way is wholesome. You gotta engage the bullshit if you really want see change. He can’t settle for the cope anymore. • @thecolumbopause4961
      @thecolumbopause4961 2 ปีที่แล้ว +124

      @@khirylowry9007 The point is, that a tolerance break doesn't break a dependence on the drug. Your still wanting to use it, need to use and your break is mapped and orientated around going back to use it. Infact your break is about improving it's effects so it can satisfy your dependence in a stronger way. Breaking dependence on it would be quitting with no wanting or expectation of going back to it even if you eventually do. If you use something and have to actively fight yourself to stop using it permanently you are dependent. Temporary breaks may be demonstratio of short term will power but you are still dependent. A bit like someone who goes to rehab, enjoys the benefits of rehab, enjoys the break but is mapping out in their head when and how they are going to get their next hit once out.

    • @thecolumbopause4961
      @thecolumbopause4961 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @fez! but like addictions/dependencies you don't know if you are dependent or not until you try to quit permanently and find out whether you have to fight yourself to stop. That's the sneaky thing about addiction/dependencies they make you think you are choosing to use until you have no choice but to use. And then you realise that your decisions are just a manifestation of your addiction. Your not really in control, the addiction is.

    • @Cernunnnos
      @Cernunnnos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@thecolumbopause4961 Nah, tolerance breaks are just part of a healthy engagement with weed. When you build up tolerance is when you start to go more and more extreme with your usage, as you're chasing that feeling that's getting harder and harder to attain.
      Brittany sounds like she may be dependant, but tolerance breaks themselves aren't indicative of dependency. I take tolerance breaks, and they can last anywhere from like a month to a year. I think you'd find it hard to argue that you're dependant on something you can go a year without touching. Weed is just fun, I wouldn't want to never have it again the same way I wouldn't want to never go on a hike again, but you wouldn't say a person is dependant on hiking.
      I get why people are going hard in the opposite direction here, way too many people went on about how weed is totally non addictive for way too long. And as a result, far too many people have a dependancy on it. But you just need to treat it like a mind altering substance, and it's effect on you is an altered state. People only get dependant on it when that altered state becomes their baseline state. Like wake and bakers. Or people who smoke every day.
      Just set rules, mine are;
      I won't smoke anything before 6pm.
      I won't smoke on work nights or if I have work to do on a day off.
      I won't smoke if I have somewhere to be.
      I will never smoke atleast 10 hours before I have to drive somewhere.
      I'll stop if I ever feel like I need to smoke it.
      I'll stop if it starts making me feel negative. (Can happen if you're not in the best place mentally)
      Currently haven't smoked since a festival in July, not as a result of a desired tolerance break but just because I haven't been in situations where I've wanted to. But I suppose it's kinda made itself into a tolerance break at this point.
      I think if you treat weed like you'd teat alcohol, as in it's social drug for social situations rather than like a cigarette. Something you smoke habitually to relieve tension. Then you're going to have a healthy relationship with it. Too many people think of it as a nothing substance that you can just smoke on a schedule. That's where all the dependency is coming from.

    This just feels like it boils down to Brittany's entire safety net she's built for herself is being able to fall back to, "Haha, just do you boo. Everyone's on their journey and we're all just humans lol." and it's probably super uncomfortable to have someone she thought she relates to saying that just "doing you" is actually pretty unfulfilling and empty.
    It's really nice to have built an entire philosophy that is based around your worth as a person being about how introspective you are, not how much good you do or how empathetic you are because at the end of the day you just get to tell yourself that you know you're happy because you understand yourself to know how you feel and that's what matters. That's why she's quick to say that this is actually about legacy or reputation, because she wants to dismiss the idea because you're seeking validation from external forces instead of from yourself.

      Yeah her saying “just do you” is also her stepping away. As a viewer of hers, the levels system is not about worth. There is the thing with level 1 being useless, which I think the main takeaway from the levels system is how we are in our own groups and interests and experiences, but our ability to see the same in others can be limited. She contributes that to being human though.
      And it’s all good to be empathetic etc., but Brittany has said multiple times that she is recovering from the savior complex or thinking she can save others because she feels so deeply for them. Or something like that/along those lines. Yes the levels thing isn’t measuring how good a person is because that really depends on your own lives experiences and others. The truth is we can’t save other people, but at least we can see them for who they are.

    @53:03 For Britany's assertion that this arc, change, evolution or whatever you want to call it.. sounds "performative or desperate".. it sounds to me that its more reflective of an internal fear SHE has that she's going to have to one day (and sooner than later) confront a feeling or thought within her that she cant feel fulfilled or self actualized without devoting oneself to some higher calling to humanity or however you want to say it. Yeah as far as happiness vs fulfilment: fulfilment is the feeling of being needed, of knowing you are worthy and capable, of being seen or understood, of being able to discipline yourself and overcome OR it can also consist of just the understanding about life having meaning at all rather than not. To me, fulfilment is a circle. It completes itself. You either have it or you don't generally. Whereas happiness to me is more like a straight line or a road, somewhere you are constantly moving but tend to never really "arrive" at. Fulfilment can exist in the absence of happiness because it's almost like a spiritual mathematics of understanding your place in reality, knowledge of oneself, and the gratefulness and appreciation for the things and people you experience or connect with. Happiness is more about hedonism or how pleasurable things are, so, there is some overlap for sure, but I find it useful to try and understand them distinctly.

    only a couple minutes in, but I got to say I love the way destiny is thinking here, the masses can never think only critically and empirically, its up to those who are better at it to provide a religion type narrative which helps the average human to put his life in to perspective and find meaning in it, there is plenty of things wrong with the religions we inherited from our ancestors, but outside of the specifics, their narrative devices are incompatible with modern scientific understanding of the world, while the modern empirical perspective doesn't provide a narrative at all, there is an enormous need to craft a new narrative which could be compatible with ways in which we see the world today.

    • @Cernunnnos
      @Cernunnnos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jung is absolutely the best thing to read if you have this mindset. It's always such a massive annoyance that the people who tend to really get into Jung take away a Christian narrative from it. Because he was so critical of the failings of Christianity as a foundation, especially in the red book. You can look at what works in a grand narrative and use it to build a stronger one that's more applicable to the society we currently live in, rather than trying to retroactively pin modern society into the old frameworks.
      You can see creatives have been trying to build this narrative for decades, with the reinvention of the pantheons through super hero literature. With the constant retreading of sacrifice motifs in literature and film. Everything Everywhere All At Once was like a modern, secular exploration of Buddhism mixed with Jungian thought. It's probably the strongest attempt at a modern grand narrative I've seen, especially in how easily digestible it's core tenets were.
      I guess the problem with all these attempts is that very few people will take the moral messages they try to impart as seriously as they were probably intended to be because there's the understanding that they're just fiction. But religion argues that it is literal.
      I'm not sure how we bridge that gap as a secular society. If we want messages to be taken seriously, do we have to lie and say they are literal? Doesn't that just set up a dogma that will inevitably not evolve with the world, and we eventually end up with the same problems? Ancient, static narratives that are unwelcoming of change and end up stifling the creativity of the next generation. But if we don't anchor them somehow, how do you get society to listen to them?
