Because it was made by Americans. In the USA their canal boom was modelled on the UK and happened about 30 years later than in the UK

Seen from today this 40 years old promotion film by canal & river trust sadly seems a bit outdated. Seeing the enormous number of narrowboats on crowded banks and in lots of commercial harbours today I would question a little whether this could still be considered a "civilized adventure".

My only gripe is; 'The Roses & Castles painting style was adopted from Gypsy wagons'... Not True! This artwork not only pre-dates the invention of Gypsy wagons, by some decades, there is also no evidence that Gypsies ever took to the waterways. Also, even rudimentary study will show virtually no similarities between the two styles, other than the joy of using bright colours. Truth be; its' origins are largely speculative, and lost in the mists of time, unfortunately.
Rant over... I feel better now 😅

This is the "CHUFFING." documentary that was seen across the USA. After wards the Americans came over to see "Jolly Olde England" by canal and RENTAL COSTS FOR A WEEKS HOLIDAY BY NARROWBOAT WENT UP TO £1,000 per week . So us poor old Brits could no longer afford Canal Holidays Thank you so much Canal Trust (twats)

Been pricing narrowboats in england vs camper of 1/2 square footage in USA. You still get more bang for your buck on a narrowboat and resale value seems to be much better...even from rugby boats.

I must agree with the majority on this one, a American commentating on an English way of life, makes for not a good video.

What a disaster, this documentary narrated by an American complete with accent and mispronouncement dialogue.

"This is an American's take on Britain's canals from the archives of the Canal & River Trust" ie it was made for / broadcast to an American audience... :)
