I've collected so many recordings of Schumann played by so many different people, each so good in their own way, and yet when I listen to Pletnev play the same thing I heard everyone else somehow I seem to have found what I am looking for always so much color and emotion especially with Schumann. I seem to always want to hear him play more of Schumann's music. I like Gilels, Wurtz, Sokolov, and Cortot alot also for Schumann.
have been listening to many different recordings of this collection. not a huge fan of the liberal rubato, but as usual, pletnev's playing is revealing in a way that is not found in other recordings. frequently, he perfectly embroiders the complexity of schumann's musical ideas. i really enjoyed this! although it is not my favorite recording, i am a better listener of the symphonic etudes for having listened to pletnev. thank you pletnev, and thank you dear uploader :)
Lots of superlatives here, but listen to Maria Grinberg, in whose recording less (pulling about) is more. This Pletnev performance reminds me of Gould’s Bach - more about the performer than the music. Richter’s studio performance also trumps Pletnev in every bar.
Music can't exist without the performer, it's a variable, not a constant. It's always performer's/listener's view on what's played. That's why I personally take Richter's version as a dead baby, I don't hear Richter in this record, just dead set of notes.
Breathtakingly emotional diving into the abysses of Schumann's Inferno, and Paradiso...
Nowords to describe this. Highest level of musician
Matchless, imaginative, poetic and stirring performance.

Pletnev is brilliant! Schumann’s Etudes are brilliant!
Да, выдающееся исполнение. Замечательное, отличное от других фразировкой, переменчивостью потока, выражением темы. ❤

I agree, this is not Schumann - this is Pletnev. And what an amazing testament this is to his sublime, irreproachable artistry.
