He said to the traveler that he didn't use his power and hasn't been using it since becoming Zhongli, because he was training for when he would eventually trade the gnosis. He even said that before he started this transition he forgot to make Mora for him, so he's been walking around with basically nothing but his knowledge. He will always manage and since he's even smarter than Ning (the lady that got the biggest fortune in Liyue by being the smartest in town) it wouldn't be hard for him to make money.

Yes, Zhong Li has a spending problem, but it's not because he's greedy. As an Archon, he sees beauty in all things in LiYue and most things everywhere else. His spending is out of appreciation and admiration of mortals and their work.

@@KOKOBC Based on what Venti explained. Gnosis is much like normal people vision except it is internal and that its capabilities is kinda far more insane than normal vision would allow.
Currently even without gnosis both Zhongli and Venti are still capable of manipulating their own respective elements to some degree because of their mastery over it (alot like the traveler where they can basically just manipulate elements directly) but neither no longer have the power to do insane feats they used to be capable of like Venti being capable of literally reshaping a continent or Zhongli singlehandedly capable of bringing down the water god on his own(or creating Mora)
Hu Tao is constantly trying to promote the Funeral Parlor and boost sales because Zhongli keeps spending all of the mora buying pottery and rocks.

Aight, not gonna lie, I shed a single tear when he bought the hairpins and sought out to return them to the owner WITH additional living expenses with it. Keeping in mind that he is a consultant for a funeral parlor, and that the wife of the man who pawned said hairpins is poor in health, well, it’s self explanatory. Mihoyo certainly pays close attention to detail in stories like this, I’ll give them that.
