    Bought a 97 camry for $800 off of Facebook marketplace. Had sat for years but was in good condition otherwise. Serviced it myself and have in total about $1600. These cars are a literal dream to work on and can be pretty much entirely taken apart with a 10mm socket. 250k miles and going strong.

      I bought my buddies 97 for $800 also. When I got out, I drove it from Washington to Indiana (2,400mile trip) made it no problems. At 306,485 these days now. Just the radiator and battery I replaced so far.

    I have a love/hate relationship with my 97 camry. It is so incredibly underpowered and slow and gets horrible gas milage for a 4 cylinder, but then again it does have 315,000 miles

    • @povnelson2019
      @povnelson2019  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cut it so slack lmao 🤣 it’s got 315k. That’s so awesome. Test driving this vehicle it was slow, makes 130hp feels like 130hp

    I got lucky and picked up a 97 CE with only 133,000 kms and trying to find another one for my girlfriend but can't find another one with as low of kilometers in all of Canada. Slow car but amazing on gas, super reliable, I've fired it up in minus 40 without plugging it in and I love the late 90s basic but classy look to it

    I bought my 1999 Toyota Camry brand new - it now has 400K on it. V6 - 5 speed manual transmission. No big expenses - runs like new- a/c is perfect - no rust (Arizona car) - plan to go another 100k or so. No leaks - no rattles - no lights on - easy to maintain - easy to fix - best car I've ever owned

    I have a 96 Toyota Camry. All maintenance is current 5-speed manual transmission... It's been garage kept its whole life. Couples small dings paint looks great still. I need to find some wheel covers off of a 97. They seem to hold up well. Great looking car. I hardly believe it's 28 years old with 132k on the clock.

    1 person posted they were having trouble with your Camry.I have a 97. Like the 4 cylinder. I have 351000 miles. Very little replacement parts radiator oil pump And water pump. The while back I was having a little bit of sluggish problems turns out That's a connection in that metal fiber that goes up to the motor Breaks down someone.They cut off in front of the cat.They found a good pile of Middle shavings and such Once that was cleared out my performance Returned. When I bought this camry it had a hundred and seventy thousand on it

    Bad advice on buying a used car. Carfax especially is a scam bro… get someone to hook up a scan tool and inspect the car for other things (eg: the muffler to see it’s oily which shows that the engine is burning out oil)

    • @povnelson2019
      @povnelson2019  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those Corollas are really good. I’ve only had one bad Corolla in all my experience. And we buy maybe 10 Corollas a year maybe more. It was a 2000 Corolla 220k miles. Ran Great transmission was smooth. After changing the oil I noticed the motor was knocking at 2500 rpms 😢. I ended up taking it back to auction and taking a loss. Bc I buy to sell and I couldn’t sell it with a bad motor. BUT it ran Amazing with 220k and a bad Motor.

    Personally small asian cars like this ones are a bitch if you don't maintain them they will break down.
    Don't get me wrong I love my mazda6 they just a project, I do not recommend them to first time owners.
    My first car was a form explorer 98 with 250k miles I drove it everywhere and never had an issue never changed the oil as well I drove it like hell And the only problem I had was the calipers from how much I punished the car

    • @rusefoxghost
      @rusefoxghost 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Any car will break if they’re not maintained. If you do maintain them and don’t abuse them, they’ll last forever in return. Some cars are just better than others though, but these old Camrys are insanely reliable.

    • @auspertobaez9300
      @auspertobaez9300 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rusefoxghost IDK what he's talking about the 97 Camry you can ignore that car all you want as long as it has engine oil and radiator fluid that car is not giving anyone any problems don't get me wrong the Ford explorer from the mid to late 90s we're amazing but there not touching the Camry in reliability and endurance you still see tons of Camry's from the 90s on the streets I can't remember the last time I saw an explorer from the 90s driving by

    • @auspertobaez9300

    • @rusefoxghost
      @rusefoxghost ปีที่แล้ว

      @@auspertobaez9300 I have a 97 Camry. I even came to this video (and others) originally to decide if it was the one I wanted. The one I got, was in pretty good shape, and at 68k miles, but did have some engine repairs to do. No engine light, but just little things like an oil leak, seals needing replaced, etc. due to age. It runs better than when I got it now, as the old owner was some old lady that didn't know about car maintenance. Yeah, this generation Camry is nearly indestructible, but it's still healthier to keep up on the maintenance than to just ignore it. That's how it goes from a 300k mile car to a 500k mile car.
      Also, I see old Explorers on the road all the time. No clue what you're trying to say here. The 90s had the perfect balance of extremely simple reliable engines and no reliability sacrificed for unneccessary complicated bits or computers. The majority of cars were some of the most reliable cars ever made.

    • @auspertobaez9300
      @auspertobaez9300 ปีที่แล้ว +1
