I dont know much about it, but it was really fun to play and inspired me to get into Gold Source modding to one day recreate the beta more accurately.

Not sure why you're surprised, the mod was made as a low-effort joke to poke fun at the people obsessing over the HL2 beta. it literally does not do anything for you if you don't care about that sort of thing (which is most people).

HL2 beta in it's original state is big mess which barely holds together. it's fun to explore. but to get a good somewhat complete experience of what HL2 beta could be Dark Interval mod does a really good job.

That's because the mod isnt very good or interesting.
Have to agree with the person above me. This mod only works if you've played the Half-Life 2 beta restoration/recreation mods and have dipped your toes into that community, since it was made to poke fun at how obsessive people are over restoring the (bad) early builds of a two decade old game.

If you want legit old half life 2 concept inspired mod check out Dark Interval 1.2. It's not complete yet but part one of the mod is several hours long

Vinny, there's a Half-life 2 beta mod (you can find on moddb), that makes the beta more playable, since the original maps are mostly broken and unplayable.

For me it's Dark Interval, but theres also Missing Information and hl2-beta.ru/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=245 which basically fixes a lot of the beta

I'm a little late but houndeyes we're supposed to be like that, ravaged by starvation making them viscous, they along with Bullsquids were supposed to be in the canal part of the story
Kleiner was supposed to die, alyx had no connection to Eli and Eli was a entire different person, breen was called the Consul and yes this mod loosely is based on the half life beta, with assets and story, albeit terrible

From what I have seen of the actual beta, hl2 turned out kinda disappointing.
In no way would this ever be a beta. Not even an alpha.
