      You’re welcome! Thank you for watching 😊 It’s a bit of a long story lol but I’ll try to make it simple. So I have a bad habit of being really driven to start something new and once it’s not “as much fun” as I thought I push it aside so going into this I didn’t want to invest a whole lot to start up and waste money if I didn’t end up liking it. I started with $100. I bought 1lb of beads and 4 or 5 different 2oz bottles of fragrance, 5 or 6 cookie cutters, a multi color pack of micas and a 12 pk of 8oz jars…along with a few stray items like puff paint and ribbon for decorating. I think I was able to make 35ish freshies with that. Took pics of them and started a fb page and then I took all of those freshies to 3 businesses in my town to see if any were interested in buying wholesale me. 2 of those places (a boutique and a gas station) bought everything I had that day which covered my initial $100 and profited me $100, I then took that $200 and bought double the amount of supplies I did the first time mostly focusing on beads and fragrance. Before I even had the second batch made both stores were already contacting me saying they were sold out and needed more. I took that batch to them when they were done which was double what I had the first time and they once again bought everything I had doubling my money again. At that point I had enough to buy more beads and oil plus extra stuff to expand my selection of shapes and designs. At the same time my fb was also beginning to gain attention so I had both the wholesale customers and the direct clientele. Unfortunately after a year and a half I had to let my wholesale clients go because I couldn’t keep up and the profit margin for wholesale was too small to justify the time those orders took. But yeah, that’s basically it 🤷🏻‍♀️ of course depending on what state/county you’re in you need to register your business which for me was just a $25 form filed with the county. Hope this helps 😊 you can do it, you just got to go for it!! Good luck!

      Yay! I’m glad I could be of help! Walmart sells two different types of oils, I think one says “warming” oil and the other says 100% fragrance oil…..if you got the one that says 100% then that one does work! Many other freshie makers say that a few of those are actually some of they’re top sellers. Thank you for the topic suggestion, I’m always adding to my list of future videos and I will add package and labeling to my list! But just so you don’t have to wait I’ve posted the link to the bags I use below! Stay away from sandwich type bags….a good rule of thumb is if you can smell the freshie through the bag you are losing scent! Smell proof bags are what you want to look for, Amazon has a wide variety of colors and sizes to choose from.

    So excited that I found your channel!!!! So thorough, great information! I do have a question, I have a customer that's an Aggie. She wants the longhorn freshie with the sawed off horn look. I suggested maybe printing the image out on cardstock and applying to a round freshie but she would rather have the freshie itself. I am not sure how to attach the molds of the horns back to the main mold without their being issues of it holding together properly, not to mention how to attach were it is pleasing to the eye. We live in Texas. I'm afraid the heat will not let it hold. LoL! Have no clue if I made sense here, been struggling with this one.
    Have a beautiful day!!! Love your videos!!!

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yay awesome! I’m glad you found me too! Unfortunately I can’t give tips on how to create a freshie like that \\m// *😂 j/k* That’s and interesting idea and it definitely can be done. There are a couple different ways I would try it. The first way I would try it would be to use a flat head pin for jewelry making, you can get them at Walmart or any craft store that sells jewelry making supplies....I use them to attach tassels to my freshies. I would bake the freshie with foil in place between the horns where you want them cut off and the head so when you pop it out of the cutter you have the 3 separate pieces. Then I would take wire cutters and snip the flat head off of two of the jewelry pins, hold the pin with a pair of small pliers and heat the other end with a lighter until red hot and then shove it down into the top of the longhorn’s ear and leave the other end of the pin sticking out, then heat the other end of the pin until hot and attach the horn as if it had been snapped off and is just sitting/laying on the ear, leave enough space between where the horn should be attached so you can tell it’s completely separated.....😬 I don’t know if I explained it well enough lol if you want you can find my business page on fb and message me there and I’ll draw up what I mean and send you a pic! I don’t have that cutter otherwise I’d just throw a video together real quick... You may just have to warn your customer that since this is a specialty design and needed to be put together in such a way that there is an unknown risk of how it will hold up. Just make sure you don’t put the pin in too close to any edges of the horn, or to be extra safe you could put two pins in each ear.....also if she wants in maroon I would only do the head that color and the horns white since darker colors absorb heat and are more likely to melt.

    I am so excited, I want to make myself some car fresheners. I know you said smaller. What size cutters do you suggest for clips? Less than 2"?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My little flowers are about 1.5 inches and my cactus are 2.5 inches…..the cactus are almost too big. Above anything else you want to make sure that the cutter or mold is at least 1.75 inches deep otherwise you won’t have enough beads to press your clip in without it showing on the front of the freshie. But as far as width and height 1.5 - 2.5 is a good range!

    What size is that mason jar if you don’t mind sharing thanks and how long does the smell last from them

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The jars in the video are 32oz, 16oz and 8oz. The ones I most commonly use are the 32oz. Once the beads are dry the scent will last in the jar for well over a year or more, once backed and bagged they last 8 months or more, not sure exactly how long because I’ve never held onto one like that longer but after 8 months mine didn’t seem to loose any strength in the bag. Once they’re hung in a vehicle mine last anywhere between 4-10 weeks….I’m in Texas so during the hot summer they tend to only last 4 weeks but in the cooler months they last 8-10 weeks.

    How much beads do you put in one cutter if you want a thicker one

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can fill the cutter all the way to the top. It can be hard to get them that thick and get the center cooked well without overcooking the edges and top. If you’re doing a solid color or simple design you can fill the cutter halfway, bake until almost done and then add the second layer of beads and bake until those are done….you have to do it quickly though, you don’t want your base layer to completely cool before you get it back in the oven.

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sometimes they can melt. It’s not very common and we don’t know why some melt and others don’t but I would suggest that you don’t use dark colors and you place the hole for the string further towards the center of the design in the hotter months. Dark colors absorb heat and increases the chance of melting. I live in Texas and it can get hot, over the last two summers I have never had one melt in my car.

      Do you mean vacuum sealed? Most of what I’ve heard or seen suggests only storing scented beads or freshies in plastic with a triangle with a 5 in the middle or in polypropylene bags otherwise the fragrance is released through the plastic. If you found vacuum seal material that specified one of those two things I would assume they could safely be stored that way.

    Would food coloring work as well for coloring the beads or would mica powder be better?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Food coloring cannot be used for aroma beads, it must be mica powder or liquid candle dye. Most craft stores offer a small selection of both of these and if you want to buy online Amazon has a great selection of multi color sample packs. I got my first set of micas 6 months ago on Amazon, it was about $12 for 24 different colors and I have made a ton of freshies with them and still haven’t run out of a single color yet!

      I do reuse jars for different scents but I try to clean them the best I can first. I can’t figure out a way to get the scent completely gone from the lids because of that I try to use a similar fragrance, so if I can still smell a cologne type fragrance I will reuse that lid for another masculine fragrance......fruity scents a reuse with another fruity scent and so on...

    Do you have to use glass jars?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For soaking I prefer and would suggest glass jars. The fragrance oils can actually eat through some types of plastic…..plastic containers marked with the number 5 inside a triangle are your safest bet if you want to go that route. I prefer the mason jars because the lid is sealed tight and prevents the oil from leaking….most plastic won’t give a water proof seal. Once my beads dry I transfer them over to a #5 plastic container for storing.

  • @caseydurham5597

    I'm having an issue getting some of my scents to soak into the beads. Such as creme brulee, blueberry cobbler and birthday cake. They all happen to be more yellow looking oils. Ive been waiting for a couple of weeks for it to soak in. What can I do to fix or help this soak in?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So each of those I assume have a heavy amount of vanilla fragrance and vanilla is a lot like leather in the sense that it takes longer to dry. Have you tried putting them in a small room with a space heater or wrapping them in a heating pad? That usually speeds up the process greatly for me! Since they are already more of a yellow color I would avoid setting them in the sun, it could turn them a darker yellow or even orange.

    How long do the jars need to sit after drying and curing before we can bake it?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns

      I’ve seen conflicting info about this. Some people say you can use them as soon as they dry and others say that once they’re dry they need to sit an additional 7-14 days before baking. I personally let mine sit for 7 days after they are dry before I use them.

    do you use the same jar for different fragrances or just the one so you are not possibly mixing scents?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I do re-use jars for different scents but I wash them between fragrances. If I only have a few empty I soak the jars and lids in hot soapy water, scrub and rinse well. If I have a lot of jars to clean I will run them (and the lids) through the dishwasher. A little tip, don’t put the jars in the dishwasher with other dishes….I did that the first time and I could smell the fragrance oil in my dishes. The middle part of the lid with the rubber seal will always have a slight scent from the previous fragrance, this doesn’t tend to be a problem but I always try to use those lids for a similar fragrance so fruity with fruity, masculine with masculine, clean with clean, etc.

    If you make a fragrance and not add any color how long can you let it sit before it’s no longer good?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On this one I’m going to have to say it depends on the oil, unfortunately I’ve run into some bad oils that start acting up after a few weeks with the main issue being that my beads went from being completely dry to being wet again. For the quality oils I’ve had they have lasted up to 3 months (that’s the longest I’ve ever had scented beads sitting because they are usually used up by then) but I have seen other freshie makers say that have had beads last for 9 months or more after being scented. Just make sure you are storing them correctly and they should last a good amount of time!

    Great and informative how to video. One question though, if the freshie is hanging from your rearview mirror, will it melt if the temperature gets to hot in the car?

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they can melt and it does happen sometimes…..it’s not that common though. I live in central/south/east TX and I have had dozens of freshies I’m my car which usually sits in one spot in direct sunlight all day and I’ve never had one melt. The freshie maker community has tried to find common characteristics among the ones that have melted such as what company they get their beads from, how hot it was that day, what color or shape the freshie was, etc. Unfortunately it seems pretty random so it’s impossible to predict which ones will melt and which ones won’t. Although of the ones that have melted more often times it was black or another dark color so as a rule of thumb I always avoid dark colors in the summer but it has happened to all colors so it’s not a guarantee. I also have warning labels that state it can melt and to use at your own risk…..

    So excited you made a new video tonight I just watched your first freshie tutorial !!! What scent is that is automatically yellow ? I’m excited to follow your journey 🙂 I just got my supplies in this week and started my first set of beads yesterday morning in leather & lace 😬 lol

    • @FarmhouseDesigns
      @FarmhouseDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw, thank you so much!! The scent in the video that was yellow is called “Lava Flow Poptail” it’s from Aztec. Majority of oils in my experience are clear and don’t turn beads yellow, sometimes a fragrance from one company will be clear and at another it will be yellow so it depends on both the fragrance and where you buy it and unfortunately you won’t know until you get it and add it to the beads.....some can even be a dark orange or amber color. Most of the time when they’re yellow the mica will cover it unless you’re using white mica and then it can be difficult to cover the yellow. Leather & Lace is one of my favorites! It’s one of the fragrances that can take a while to dry though, both leather and vanilla are culprits of longer drying times but the one I got from “Lonestar Candle Supply” dried in no time! It’s one I had in my first tutorial and I think it only took 24 hrs. Good luck I hope your first batch comes out amazing!
