      How do you deal with the MAN / TAXES and shit . Or not ? $50 g. s My most major hassle is accounting / bookkeeping expending $ 22 g, s. & trying to extract my exempt sales tax expenditures from the DEBACLE that is New York fucking State sales tax laws ??? Basically my shop is outta here for freer and greener pastures!!!

      Lee, You touched base with me on the need to brand my boxes, and I ship a lot. Now, I'm looking at 3 color logo printing to really make them pop. Without your videos, and really learning more about the process, to do it myself, I would be paying someone else to do it for me. Thank you. DollarSeed.com

      Lee, believe it or not, but your branding issue gave me the bug as well. I sell garden seeds, and shared the information within our thousands of customers. I admit, I broke down and bought a pre-exposed and washed out screen, because everything I tried failed. I have no tolerance for tossing money down the drain while I learn it. I threw away a few dozen boxes. Then I reached the point of hey, you either do it yourself or hire someone else to do it for you. I chose the DIY method, and am now going to purchase the Ricoh i550 to do custom band branding for one local band member who is also my boss. Your way of telling the truth, and inspiration based on that is very welcoming.

      I so agree. I'm not ready to drop $50k into it just yet, but I am now putting my own brand on our boxes, and my customers say they will support me if I start doing T-Shirts. Just bought my first 40 shirts yesterday. Today I was given a photo from a band who wants to put their CD cover image on T-Shirts to sell. I've just hooked up with the T-Shirt whole distributors that are local with great prices. I asked my seed business partners to find funny gardening memes, that they would purchase if put on T-Shits. I got 40 suggestions in less than 24 hours, and 3 I fell in love with. Since seed sales drop drastically in the summer, I'm going to be pulling one of my employees off to the side and teach him what I've learned, so he can help work that side of the business. There is plenty of work for us out there if we do it right, and Lee has been my inspiration to even want to try it.

      How’d you get into screen printing bro? I’m trying to get into it for my brand…I thought about applying for a screen print job just to learn and get hands on with the craft without having to buy all of the equipment. I figured I’d work it part time since I already have a good paying 9-5, but this shit got me burnt out.

    • @sumothegreat7908
      @sumothegreat7908 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hagachamoru hafa adai! I started designing in prison (on an illegal cell phone) and knew it would be tough getting a job with my record. I started out with a 15X15 heat press, and a silhouette cameo, and now I get my designs printed onto plastisol transfers (screen print on sheets) and outsource to my screenprinting and wholesale distributors. Your 9-5 can be a total stepping stone, I’ve been doing shirts and clothing for going on 7 years now, and do it full time! You can too!

    This is the most important video you’ve made since starting printing. As someone who has been running a shop for 8+ years, I can say that you made it look easy. For sure you’ve inspired a lot of printers to up their game, your shop is the kind of organized workspace people dream about.
    *Most printers* go out of business or turn into the kind of low quality places you’ve talked about. *Most people* don’t have the dedication to commit $50k and keep going when nothing is working properly. It’s clear you put every bit of your energy into it this year. That’s pretty damn impressive. Thanks for taking the time to document it all, that’s a gnarly amount of dedication by itself.

    Just found your channel!! Thank you for your videos. I spent 2019 dreaming about having my own shop and starting a screen printing business for t-shirts... I went as far as buying a 4 color press with one tshirt set up with a flash dryer.. and of course coming to find out I need so much more equipment!!! The struggle is real and I will be honest I give up every other day in my mind... but the want in my gut is so real, currently working with what I have to practice and learn out of my garage. Anyhow, this video has given me some motivation today and thank you for that.

      The 4 in 1 is a good choice, because registration is the key. I also bought the single one color press for putting our logos on boxes. I even broke down after so many failures to hire another company to burn and wash my logo, because they started good and failed from poor work from me. I would highly recommend you get a heat press next. There are many good inexpensive ones to help get you going. The vinyl plotter part was my start before all of this, and US Cutter has some of the best units. Don't believe any of those crafters that tell you it's okay to print with the Oracle 651. Once it gets wet, it falls right off the screen. But there are emulsion sheets out there that were made for Yudo by Ryonet, that will allow you to wet the screen and expose it on the screen for about $1 each if you don't have the exposure unit, or a pressure washer. I've only been doing screens for a week and everyday Santa sends me his UPS or FedEx elves to deliver me more products. Lee was the reason why I even considered doing it. I'm learning from his mistakes....lol

    I been printing for about 5 yrs as a hobby. Most of my equipment is quality, some is not. I believe you can DIY some stuff like a drying box. I learned that some stuff should not be DIY. While I have full time job, I have a pretty healthy printing business. I dont do thousands of shirts a month, mainly because I dont have the time.
    Your pointers are on point. I feel that I wasent all in the first 4yrs. I learned enough, quality was ok, I can fixed or hide most of my problems. Then 2019 came and I was done with printing. Printing is fun, dealing with all the issues was just to much. 3 hr jobs taking 8hrs. Registration good one night, then off the next one. I sat down watch all of the printing videos I could. Decided to buy a new press. Remove all the DIY equipment I had left and get them new. Its night and day.
    Now while I still take orders. I am just going back to basics. Making new complex and challenging designs to practice and master our craft. 2020 is looking like is going to be awesome. I might make 0 actual orders but it will set me up for the rest of my printing life.
    Ps. Thank you for your videos. The screen printing community in my opinion is not a really helpful community. Obviously there a lot that will help others but most wont. You’re videos have inspire me to go after it again.

    Holy shit. You just hit me right between the eyes with what I needed to hear. We sat on some used screen printing equipment for a couple of years and just recently set it up and began printing. We are running to into all kinds of issues just like you mentioned and its just too damn easy to cut and run. We have potential clients on the hook and I am sweating the ability to meet demand when the time comes. This is a good problem to have; good motivation if you will. Went to school for printing, but haven't done it in almost 18 years. Your videos last year gave me the idea of going ahead and starting to do my bands merch myself. Just purchased my first initial setup this weekend. My main concern right now is burning screens. I have a 4 color, 1 platen press, and a flash dryer. The dude also included all the stuff for making screens and inks and squeegies. I just do not have an exposure unit or a pressure washer. Getting ready to buy a house, so I really do not wanna add much stuff to my setup until I have the new space. What are your thoughts on buying a pre made screen from somewhere? I figured it can be a way for me to get press time to knock the rust off and possibly some usable product to sell to recoup some of the investment.

    Great clip! Thanks for sharing! Do you think it pushed your « dream » of creating and marketing your own brand aside since you’re becoming more busy on printing for others? I have big ideas of brand projects, but I get caught up in the little details of printing, which tees to choose.. I told myself, worst case, I’ll buy a good heatpress, and find a great printer where I can get top quality plastisol heat transfers done, or buy my own vinyl cutter.
