Here’s what I think: - when you are injected with V as a child, the reason you don’t get powers immediately is because it waits for you to gain traumatic experiences that the V can repair (e.g: Marie from gen v was insecure and scared during her first period, so that’s when her powers kicked in, Teddy stillwell can teleport as a toddler because in the explosion he experienced as a baby) - adults already have the traumatic experiences which is why they gain powers immediately.
that's an interesting theory. But im wondering how it works with homelander then. As he was stated to of flied out of his mothers stomach during birth. As he was injected as a fetus.
@@darkspeedgames3082 I think Homelander is a slightly different story because he wasn’t injected with the he was someone who was born from someone who was already super abled. So I think we need to take into consideration like Homelander wasn’t injected with as a child. He is soldier, boy kid, so he was born with his powers. Therefore, he’s an outlier from everyone else who had to get injected just like Ryan is an outlier in that case as well
9:24 Homelander had his abilities as an infant. He lasered his way out of his mother's womb and could fly just after he was born, before any "weaknesses/insecurities" could develop because babies are not cognitively complex enough to have a theory of mind to perceive how others perceive them to develop any insecurities.
What the mother is feeling can affect the baby and alter the babies mindset/insecurities upon birth. The fact that his mother was paid off to give up her baby shows she was in need of help and probably in distress.

So by that logic if the cancer was the one that got the superpowers and not Butchers, the cancer percieved weakness is Butcher compassion (his heart) and that's why the tentacles emerge from there

That's what they're saying, that the experiences (caused by the environment) shape the powers. Therefore, Vought labs use that principle to try and develop specific powers in the subjects by manipulating the environment.

Oh, I really hope the writers change their minds about that. There's a lot you could do with Ashley if she's treated with at least a little dignity... Granted, she might not deserve it after everything we've seen, but still.
Well in the original script for the season 4 finale, Ashley was supposed to die, quite horrifically, after taking the V. The script said that her skin literally melted off her body and she died in an agonizing, bloody mess on the floor. However, thankfully, since it was leaked they changed it and allowed her to live, granting her an unknown power
Makes sense that Homelander (the most insecure character) developed the most powers. I always wondered why Butcher never got flight. It was because he simply isn’t that insecure.

teleportation isn’t just something that could have saved robin, a train was his favourite supe but hughie knows the possible backlash of super speed. he can get to his desired location with his powers without colliding with anyone
I thought Ashley was going to turn into some hulk like creature because she says to a train that it’s hard not to become a monster at Vought which I think is foreshadowing
in an interview the actress playing Ashley said they haven't decided what Ashely's powers gonna be, but they are aiming to make her powers "humiliating" and "disgusting"
Startlight always had to be the "Shining star" in her mothers eyes A-Train is always running from his problems, he almost never confronts his issues As for Ashely my money is that she is going to become more intelligent, she felt threatened by Sage, made to feel small and stupid and she beats herself up for not being able to escape and be safe. So maybe she wants to be smart enough so that she can always figure out the correct course to take and always be the most important person in the room who dominates everyones attention
It reminds me of a conversation in MHA where they talk about the powers influencing how their personalities will develop rather than the other way around, like if you had super strength/healing/invulnerability you’d likely grow up being extremely cocky, or having invisibility would probably lead to you being a loner, I think it’s a really cool concept that probably applies to a lot of characters in the show, like little cricket in Gen V probably developed her eating disorder because of her powers for example
Agreed the theory that it’s the other way around makes no sense because how would we explain people like acid vomit guy who wasn’t invulnerable to the vomit
Also important to note that all supe terrorists (Kenji, Kimiko, Naqib) have generally weaker abilities than the superheroes made from early age. They all took it as adults and since powers emerge immediately, only one dose can be taken. With children many doses can be injected before superpowers develop and that would make them much stronger such as in case of Queen Maeve or Homelander (he has this many powers not just because of the amount of insecurities but also since he literally received all doses before being born). Also that explains why Ryan is a natural born supe, since homelander had so much compound V in his system that it got passed on to his child.

When Neumann injected her kid we could see the V making her back pulse, but her powers have nothing to do with her back, it's just the V moving in her veins, pretty sure Ashley's powers won't be directly related to her head or mind, rather all we know is that there's V inside her & shes alive

also sam riordan became one of the strongest on the planet because he felt powerless in the facilities where he was kept. golden was described as shy by brink and to combat it he gained some of the most flashy and powerful abilties
I think Soldier Boy works well with this theory too. As a child, he had an inferiority complex, and is very insecure. So him developing super strength and nigh-invulnerability to combat against his perceived weaknesses, makes a lot of sense.
I hope she gets an actual useful power and not something thats just played for laughs to be honest. Medusa hair would be good and would fit the narrative of her character

The biggest problem I see is that nobody, with the possible exception of Annie, seems to have developed psychological resilience as a result of the trauma they experienced. Indeed, heightened emotional lability and feelings of insecurity seem to be one of compound V's side effects.
Temp V also seems to have different effects on Butcher than regular V. I mean, maybe we'll find out he still has the lazer and the new stuff is just the cancer but he didn't seem particularly strong in season 4 which, was the other thing he got with temp V
If Compound V adapts humans to the environment and the environment had lots of dangerous supers would that create a generation of supers that could nullify or remove the powers of a super?
maybe not nullify, but abilities that exploit weaknesses? or more general purpose powers that would fit general scenarios. we kinda see this with the goldolkin students a bit.

@@ShawnsLegacy That's an interesting point to make, although Crimson countess and the TNT twins seemed like they were familiar with what was happening when SB was charging up for the attack. He probably seldom used it because Vought thought it was too destructive for PR to handle, but we might see him use it in the new Vought Rising series.
Ashley has little control of her world because she is always trying to figure out what other people think and responding to that (100% PR). I imagine her powers might manifest as mindreading and/or mind control so that she doesnt have to wonder what people think, or she can just make people react exactly how she wants them to.
True, homelander came out the womb with his powers before developing any insecurities But im sure the supes were written with their powers in mind to reflect/match their character in general
it kind of does, just not deliberately. thanks to natural selection "weak" members of the species will die out in favor of stronger specimens, or those with favorable mutations, because they won't live long enough to be able to pass along their genes- thus things that are overtly detrimental to a species' survival are "patched out" over time. it's obviously not 100%, but that's the idea as far as i know
This even works for soldier boy too. His biggest insecurity was his father’s view of him which was being a disappointment and basically not being strong or tough enough. So in turn, his powers became super strength and durability. That plasma blast or whatever it is was a result of the constant testing done on him.
I think Ashlee could have the ability to shapeshift if anything. In the last episode right before she takes the compound v, homelander and the deep figure out they don’t know Ashlee’s name, this shows she is used to hiding and wants to get away. Furthermore, she wanted to runaway with A-Train but was scared she’d be caught because they know who she is. It’s a reasonable possibility but I think either this or the hair manipulation too.

That would be too boring of a reveal. Her powers have to cause a physical change. Unless she now has a giant brain, then telepathy would be a pretty boring power reveal for her
The V powers are most likely awakened and part of human generics than anything else. Remember, John was created to be a powerful supe. His powers were manipulated to be a powerful supe. This explains why supes have one unique power and share a base set and explains why John has three unique powers. Which could mean there are natural supes out there. However, Vaught keeps them quiet.
those powers come from trauma or maybe the type of person you are Hughie can teleport because he has abandonment issues and Hughie's dad always felt see-through that's how he can faze through walls
This video is great, and does a good job of finding the interal logic this show has about Compoud V and the powers it gives. It is becoming more and more simialr to how powers work in the web serial "Worm". If the powers in The Boys and how they work and relate to the character's traits and pysche interest you then you should read Worm!
You're right, I just remembered that Hughie's first kill was teleporting his hand through a man's heart. The same way his father accidentally killed a patient, grabbing their heart by accident.
She has the power to control blood, she wouldn't need a mirror, they've shown her controlling her own blood before making it float after she cut her hand
To add, race would also assist with this theory. A-Train and Sage to be exact. They are the peak. They are the peak because it was required. There for sure are other speedsters (As we've seen) and there HAS to be other smart people, shit comic books are filled with them. But she's the SMARTEST. This theory I wouldn't be shocked if we end of seeing that racial trauma is actually fuel for V.
I’d say this works pretty well, but to an extent it’s also dependent on the amount of V they were given. Vought (because their founder was a literal Nazi) probably gave larger doses to rich white families. The reason Sage is the smartest is probably because it takes less V to make someone mentally stronger than physically. Homelander’s strength will probably take longer to decline than A-Train’s because he was Supe sperm mixed with a vile of compound v. His blood is probably more V than actual blood.
I think they are doing a The Boys: Mexico, so we'll see if race really impacts when given Compound V. Maybe mexicans with super strength being up there against the strongest in the universe of The Boys due to boxers from Mexico coming on top very frequently?
It's like the super soldier serum just gives powers instead of just increases human ability it enhances whatever is already there their experiences, insecurities, desires, n even environmental factors things like that all either combine or one will b stronger than the other n creates the best ability to match those factors

Okay I definitely agree with some of the stuff you're saying, and you gave me a different perspective however you didn't mention how the genetics work, Here's a revised theory We already know we have these abilities in our genes but the question is to what extent?, there's this thing called epigenetics, where certain parts of your genes can get activated and deactivated, I think there are multiple genes containing how the powers work only that compound V activates these genes In Ryan's case, the reason he is stronger is because every single cell contains the genetic information that would be activated by Compound V but it doesn't need reactivation it has already been activated in the embryo the reason Homelander is weaker is because all of his cells haven't been activated, if you dose a super baby with compound V you would expect it to activate every cell, but it can't, it's practically impossible. Maybe there's a protein that shuffles "powers" DNA for each cell, So for example this power is number 1211203, and hughies power is number 1220123, Not that far off a DNA shuffler could "randomly" shuffle the number and according to that give a specific power Now some die when being exposed to bad things or whatnot, and the cells that remain, multiply kind of like evolution, not in a traditional Darwinian sense but its called cellular adaptation, cells with certain advantageous genetic or epigenetic changes are more likely to survive and proliferate when exposed to Compound V, leading to the manifestation of powers, now these cells now have the ability for compound V to unlock powers that are needed based on the number 1211203, now because the cells previously died for not having the ability to have that power, they were instructed to (X_X), so when compound V activated it gave them the powers they needed And one more for the road, I want this to be true though, imagine the boys being connected to the alien universe I know that sounds stupid but, maybe before this, we were all aliens with different superpowers, and the creators have the same DNA as humans I think, so we can mate, the earth became this ground for all of us to come together and not be at war, each having different powers to survive in different planets, eventually these powers became unnecessary, Which now became deactivated and unusable, until compound V activated them There was this other theory by this guy, he proposed that personalities has something to do with this, and I completely dismissed the idea, but your theory gave me a different mindset so ty
The biggest question to me is that it’s mentioned that V stays in the bloodstream, hence why Soldier Boy’s beam can incinerate it. However, Homelander gave birth to a kid without any additional V. I could understand if the mother was a Supe, what with the kids blood coming from its mother, but how is the information for the superpowers encoded into the sperm cells?
Based off this I think the powers I would get would be being able to manipulate my genetics to adapt to any given situation And sense it’s possible to have multiple powers here’s a few more super intelligence, mind control, being able to manipulate quantum information, being able to talk to fungi/ants/termites/Crows/Ravens Might be forgetting some, but that’s pretty much it

Hughie and his father gained powers of "not being there" because they felt abandoned, the gen V guy can change gender because he sees himself as non-binary, stormfront gained his powers because she was a weapon from you know who and Translucent for being a bit perverted, and so many others. This could also explain in a simpler way some powers such as "being the smartest person" or "being the fastest" such as a-train and sage. The only controversial part may be butcher, But maybe he just knows that he's the other side of Homelander's coin

Thinking about it now, all the Gen V protagonists contributing to the theory, Emma's power is eating disorder in the most literal way, Andre having the same power as his father is because he saw himself as his father's successor, Cate for being manipulative, There are really many examples
The difference in what powers parents and chuldren have seem to be different depending on whether or not the parents already had powers when they had their kids. Translucent, Homelander and Andre's father all had their powers when they fathered their children and their kids have the same power set. Meanwhile Huey's temporary powers are different as he got them before his father got injected with V. The only one breaking that rule seems to be Neumann and her daughter.
Homelander was said to have absolutely destroyed his mother at birth, meaning he had his powers from the beginning, if his powers are that strong and diverse it would probably be from the fact that babies are helpless and are in total lack of control, so he basically became all-powerful
I think Ashley may gain mind control/telepathic abilities. She wouldn't have to be afraid of the seven because she could literally control them. It could be used intimately. And could explain the movement under the scalp, as maybe her brain ends up expanding to allow these abilities.
You missed out on something that fits nicely into your theory. In the last episode of Geb V we see that when she is berated Little Cricket shrinks without needing to purge. While there has been a relationship between her powers and caloric intake or reduction to get either small or large this moment demonstrated that when she feels small (and purging has got to make you feel pretty small, we know she doesnt like it) she can shrink. Likely part of her getting big from eating might be related to the stigma of getting fat or big from eating to much as she and her mother have been entertainment focused. Im thinking that if she feels powerful or big about herself she will be able to grow large without consuming food as well.
3:50 ur half wrong, u see, hughie had tp powers while hugh senior had intangibility, but hughie got tp powers from temp v, not compound v, both can give different powers, butcher took temp v and got powers like homelander, but when he took compund v he got other powers.
The multitude of Homelanders powers probably came from the DNA and insecurity of Soldier Boy, who probably had his powers formed being a disappointment from his dad who which he wanted to prove wrong.
It's a nice theory, because Homelander also wanted to impress his daddy figure (Stan Edgar). At the same time, he also wanted to make soldier boy proud of him during the final episode of season 3
Hughie developing teleportation and his father developing phasing abilities does seem based on genetics. Teleportation and phasing are both traversal abilities that allow its users to rearrange their own atomic structures to move through spaces and/or objects/forms of matter. Neuman’s powers are based on physiological factors. She can control blood, and turn her skin into a protective shield via biokinesis. Her daughter also has physiological based powers. She can generate fanged tentacles from her own mouth, thus she also has a biokinetic ability. While the powers may be different, they’re still very similar in nature.
hughies dad and hugies abilities still fall in the rage of similar to an extent while hughie can displace his body over short or long distances while his father can only distort his physical being making him able to run through objects still displacement based but different.
i honestly believe that ashley will get hair manipulation powers like sindel from mk and not any of the other ones but knowing that the boys is meant to be satire it's probably gonna be some nymphomaniac power thingy

when you think about the domain of the mind and power of manipulation, the explanation is as strong as it would like to be, which doesn't really make any of these people bad but some too far gone to stay with the same traumas.
First Section gets a lot of things wrong in terms of genetics determining ability type. Huey's dad got the shot AFTER he had Huey. They both develop simillar abilities. Huey's dad moves in sporatic uncontrolled patterns, teleports through walls and get "spawn" inside people destroying them from the inside. While Huey teleports instantly instead of moving really sporatically it's about the same effect. His first manifestation also involved instant transmissiong his fist right trhough a dude's chest. Homelander and Ryan are ENTIRELY different. Ryan did not receive V. Homelander got V before he had Ryan. It makes sense that he passed down his abilities to Ryan.
I've always wondered where is the line between magic an scien when it comes to compound V, I could believe that in a science fiction none fantasy kinda story you can get super strength speed and hell if you stretch it telekinesis two But what really kinda jumped the shark for me was hugies teleportation cuz it's implying that whatever these nzi scientists created is able to mess with mater and space Maybe it's just me but It's like of next season they introduced a sup with the power to reverse time or idk create portals It would feel weird right? Even tho the show is sci fi it's still pretty grounded in what they can do, so unless they reveal that V comes from aliens or some magical thing

Ashley is going to grow an organic adaptable exoskeleton that shields her from harm and grows stronger with every attack. Something along the lines of Doom from Superman - without the rest of the superpowers.
I've always thought Ashlee would turn into a dominitrix She-Hulk. That's just me. Maybe they add a gimmick with her hair that makes it grow on command and it's like insanely strong like Sindel. The supes tend to have multiple powers tagged along with their main ability so it's not out of question if she has a couple things developing. Guess we'll have to see! you know what, maybe she will have a version of little crickets powers! but instead of binging and purging, her powers are mainly based on how she's feeling.
Crickets powers are based on how shes feeling she only thinks she has to purge because she feels small when she purges and feels big when she eats more than she thinks she should they revealed this in the last episode when she shrinks without purging after Sam makes her feel small

homelander is different he is soldier boys offspring so he was "born" with powers so he never got V he was born w it
A-Train awakened his superspeed when he was a kid they were getting shot at and he needed to out run the bullets

Well in the original script for the season 4 finale, Ashley was supposed to die, quite horrifically, after taking the V. The script said that her skin literally melted off her body and she died in an agonizing, bloody mess on the floor. However, thankfully, since it was leaked they changed it and allowed her to live, granting her an unknown power

It reminds me of a conversation in MHA where they talk about the powers influencing how their personalities will develop rather than the other way around, like if you had super strength/healing/invulnerability you’d likely grow up being extremely cocky, or having invisibility would probably lead to you being a loner, I think it’s a really cool concept that probably applies to a lot of characters in the show, like little cricket in Gen V probably developed her eating disorder because of her powers for example

Also important to note that all supe terrorists (Kenji, Kimiko, Naqib) have generally weaker abilities than the superheroes made from early age. They all took it as adults and since powers emerge immediately, only one dose can be taken. With children many doses can be injected before superpowers develop and that would make them much stronger such as in case of Queen Maeve or Homelander (he has this many powers not just because of the amount of insecurities but also since he literally received all doses before being born). Also that explains why Ryan is a natural born supe, since homelander had so much compound V in his system that it got passed on to his child.

The biggest problem I see is that nobody, with the possible exception of Annie, seems to have developed psychological resilience as a result of the trauma they experienced. Indeed, heightened emotional lability and feelings of insecurity seem to be one of compound V's side effects.
Temp V also seems to have different effects on Butcher than regular V. I mean, maybe we'll find out he still has the lazer and the new stuff is just the cancer but he didn't seem particularly strong in season 4 which, was the other thing he got with temp V

This even works for soldier boy too. His biggest insecurity was his father’s view of him which was being a disappointment and basically not being strong or tough enough. So in turn, his powers became super strength and durability. That plasma blast or whatever it is was a result of the constant testing done on him.
I think Ashlee could have the ability to shapeshift if anything. In the last episode right before she takes the compound v, homelander and the deep figure out they don’t know Ashlee’s name, this shows she is used to hiding and wants to get away. Furthermore, she wanted to runaway with A-Train but was scared she’d be caught because they know who she is. It’s a reasonable possibility but I think either this or the hair manipulation too.

I’d say this works pretty well, but to an extent it’s also dependent on the amount of V they were given.
Vought (because their founder was a literal Nazi) probably gave larger doses to rich white families. The reason Sage is the smartest is probably because it takes less V to make someone mentally stronger than physically.
Homelander’s strength will probably take longer to decline than A-Train’s because he was Supe sperm mixed with a vile of compound v. His blood is probably more V than actual blood.

Okay I definitely agree with some of the stuff you're saying, and you gave me a different perspective however you didn't mention how the genetics work, Here's a revised theory
We already know we have these abilities in our genes but the question is to what extent?, there's this thing called epigenetics, where certain parts of your genes can get activated and deactivated, I think there are multiple genes containing how the powers work only that compound V activates these genes
In Ryan's case, the reason he is stronger is because every single cell contains the genetic information that would be activated by Compound V but it doesn't need reactivation it has already been activated in the embryo the reason Homelander is weaker is because all of his cells haven't been activated, if you dose a super baby with compound V you would expect it to activate every cell, but it can't, it's practically impossible.
Maybe there's a protein that shuffles "powers" DNA for each cell, So for example this power is number 1211203, and hughies power is number 1220123, Not that far off a DNA shuffler could "randomly" shuffle the number and according to that give a specific power
Now some die when being exposed to bad things or whatnot, and the cells that remain, multiply kind of like evolution, not in a traditional Darwinian sense but its called cellular adaptation, cells with certain advantageous genetic or epigenetic changes are more likely to survive and proliferate when exposed to Compound V, leading to the manifestation of powers, now these cells now have the ability for compound V to unlock powers that are needed based on the number 1211203, now because the cells previously died for not having the ability to have that power, they were instructed to (X_X), so when compound V activated it gave them the powers they needed
And one more for the road, I want this to be true though, imagine the boys being connected to the alien universe I know that sounds stupid but, maybe before this, we were all aliens with different superpowers, and the creators have the same DNA as humans I think, so we can mate, the earth became this ground for all of us to come together and not be at war, each having different powers to survive in different planets, eventually these powers became unnecessary, Which now became deactivated and unusable, until compound V activated them

I could understand if the mother was a Supe, what with the kids blood coming from its mother, but how is the information for the superpowers encoded into the sperm cells?
Based off this I think the powers I would get would be being able to manipulate my genetics to adapt to any given situation

The difference in what powers parents and chuldren have seem to be different depending on whether or not the parents already had powers when they had their kids.
Translucent, Homelander and Andre's father all had their powers when they fathered their children and their kids have the same power set.
Meanwhile Huey's temporary powers are different as he got them before his father got injected with V.
The only one breaking that rule seems to be Neumann and her daughter.

I think Ashley may gain mind control/telepathic abilities. She wouldn't have to be afraid of the seven because she could literally control them. It could be used intimately. And could explain the movement under the scalp, as maybe her brain ends up expanding to allow these abilities.
You missed out on something that fits nicely into your theory. In the last episode of Geb V we see that when she is berated Little Cricket shrinks without needing to purge. While there has been a relationship between her powers and caloric intake or reduction to get either small or large this moment demonstrated that when she feels small (and purging has got to make you feel pretty small, we know she doesnt like it) she can shrink. Likely part of her getting big from eating might be related to the stigma of getting fat or big from eating to much as she and her mother have been entertainment focused. Im thinking that if she feels powerful or big about herself she will be able to grow large without consuming food as well.

The multitude of Homelanders powers probably came from the DNA and insecurity of Soldier Boy,
who probably had his powers formed being a disappointment from his dad who which he wanted to prove wrong.

Hughie developing teleportation and his father developing phasing abilities does seem based on genetics. Teleportation and phasing are both traversal abilities that allow its users to rearrange their own atomic structures to move through spaces and/or objects/forms of matter.
Neuman’s powers are based on physiological factors. She can control blood, and turn her skin into a protective shield via biokinesis. Her daughter also has physiological based powers. She can generate fanged tentacles from her own mouth, thus she also has a biokinetic ability.
While the powers may be different, they’re still very similar in nature.
hughies dad and hugies abilities still fall in the rage of similar to an extent while hughie can displace his body over short or long distances while his father can only distort his physical being making him able to run through objects still displacement based but different.

First Section gets a lot of things wrong in terms of genetics determining ability type.
Huey's dad got the shot AFTER he had Huey. They both develop simillar abilities. Huey's dad moves in sporatic uncontrolled patterns, teleports through walls and get "spawn" inside people destroying them from the inside.
While Huey teleports instantly instead of moving really sporatically it's about the same effect. His first manifestation also involved instant transmissiong his fist right trhough a dude's chest.
Homelander and Ryan are ENTIRELY different. Ryan did not receive V.
Homelander got V before he had Ryan.
It makes sense that he passed down his abilities to Ryan.
