Mr. Smith u are to be commended for going the extra mile to help out a friend that sounds as if he really needs a hand up. The time to help a person is when they need it not just when its convenient for u. Cudos to the wife also, she always out there doing her part. It’s obvious it will be done right or not at all. The pay back is the good feeling u get when he takes that truck down the road and is putting food on the table, and a roof over their head. Hopefully he will pay it forward as he is able to do so. No matter your situation there is always someone right around the corner that is worse off. Thank u sir for doing what u do.
Dear Robert B. 👍👌👏 Very well said, Sir! I wanted to comment similar but fortunately you had already done all the writing work. Thanks! ;-) Best regards, luck and health.
You my friend are the definition of a good person in my book. Here you are doing this to help a friend out and going the extra mile. This is why I watch each of your videos start to finish and let the ads play. I love seeing how you're willing to do what it takes to get someone a good reliable and safe truck so they can get to work.
That binder is looking great J.C! 🙂👍 I'm very interested to see the lift setup you build for it. Glad to hear the bearings were all good. Nice to get away with just replacing seals 🔧 Take care ❤
Man you are good at changing axles and replacing brake parts. The needle and wire wheel prep work you and your wife do is outstanding. When you are through with an sxle upgrade it is better than new.
Long after this truck has done its job, it will be remembered who got him there. Forever grateful in sense but not obligation..... ucky stuff avoided. A dang nice job J.C. nice thing about a job like this is the self satisfaction that you did more and can rest knowing this.... or not quite as tired at night. Dang, thats a long winded didn't really do what I'm trying to say. can't think of the fellow that says "As long as your having fun and still get it done"- - - personal rewards
And again thank you and the missis for the great video s I have a smart tv so I watch you on TH-cam but I have to go on my phone or laptop to comment and give you the thumbs up
Enjoying this project anybody can work with new parts.... love what you're doing very enjoyable, thanks JC, we are definitely making up for the mild winter we had last year and still have a long ways to go stay warm guys!
Added benefit to painting the frame and other parts shows the truck has had recent maintenance could be the difference between a truck getting a pass on a Dot inspection or a stop for inspection. Your work is normally above and beyond what many people would do. Buying a used truck from you should be a sound investment. Thanks for all you do and thanks for taking us along stay safe. Tom
i agree. i think a dot officer may go for the one that looks poorly maintained over one that appears to be serviced regularly.....not in all cases but some i'm sure.
Another fantastic video, awesome job. Can't believe some of the ways other shops or shade tree mechanics fix what they should have left alone. If I sent one of my trucks to you, I would never have to worry if it was done right. I had a leaking wheel seal replaced at a truck stop, the berings went out 400 miles down the road. I found out that the seal was put in backwards and the inside nut was too tight. Towing and the correct repair was 6400.00.
Your a good friend. It's not mine but thanks for taking the time to do it right. This looks like your friend is going to have a good work truck in the end. I like to see your work. I can tell you take pride in what you do.
those leftover parts from other projects come in handy, especially when doing a budget build. coming along nicely JC. even with mismatched parts, you doing best you can to make truck not look like hacked together
Watching you guys out in that snow and ice makes me thankful I live in sunny Queensland 🇦🇺 you have my utmost respect for what you do and help people 👍🏼👏
I'm sure it will come back to you in a positive way, it never hurts to help a friend and paint makes everything much better to work on. Good job buddy ,!
Cleaning and painting is extra work but I think it's usually well worth it. A guy puts time and money into repairs, but if the result looks bad, it's easy to treat the equipment carelessly and maybe waste the investment. If it looks good, it's easy to take some pride in what you have and take the time and effort to care for it. Plus, as you point out, it's easier to maintain also. Good work JC!
I like the way you do this type of work. You and Squatch 253 (TH-cam) do a very good job of fixing things before they break. Always look forward to your videos. Thanks
Nice overhaul on that project truck for your friend. Does he have any idea the amount of work you're doing to "preserve" that frame and running gear? Amazing difference with a couple coats of primer and paint. I love that driveshaft tool you have and its brother the pinion puller! Such a time saver and good for morale in the shop....yours and Mrs. JC's. Work safe, stay warm! Doug@ the "ranch"
dont know. it doesnt matter really. im going to do what i do the way i do it regardless. when i am done, i will know i did all i could to make it the best truck it can be.
I've take those battery cable ends filled with cut solder and flux in a pair of vice grips heated till melted and shoved the wire in let cool and crimped, have had no trouble at all after that.
Hey JC you do great work and really explain things well. What happened to the International that you were working on with the 2 cycle Detroit with 4 psi, that the owner had found a low hour engine for
Hey JC they have a laser rust remover that is absolutely incredible it would get in all those nooks and crannies it basically vapor rises the rust you need to look into that
Hey there J.C. just been skimming through videos I've missed & was wondering what became of the '77 Freightshaker? Probably missed you mentioning it but did you ever get a bar on that engine and see if it rolled over, and if so what're your thoughts on it now? Thanks for sharing this cool old iron, wish we had stuff like that in the UK.
Jc have you been watching jamie davis trucking out of canada he has a bunch of towing video s from going small to a big company with new truck and a rotater and selling it all off and back to a small company again his show was on the weather channel and now he is on youtube the same as good sons all terrain logging out of north carolina
Hello JC, I was wondering what happen to the friends GM V8 rebuild? You was finding all sorts of things, should I say off about it. Say hi to the Mrs . Robin Jo from PA.
Inquiring mind would like some clarification. At 22:50 we get into an important and miss understood area. Can you explain a better method and how you would do one? I believe this is a fascinating topic.
In a previous video you said you’re not a welder. But I guarantee that you would not have been satisfied with those welds on this truck frame. Keeping frames in good shape is getting to be more important with dot cracking down on rust jacking
There is a product, available from Lawson, that they call 'Real Copper Plate.' It is flaked copper in anti-seize that you apply to battery cable ends to make a better, rot resistant, connection between the dissimilar metals. I use this product, then spray 'Plasti-Dip' over the connections. I have not had a battery connection failure for more than twenty years.
i would have drilled new holes and cut off the extra frame behind the axle. if i had no choice but to cut and weld it, i would have done a 45* angle cut on the frame. then added a radius matching and bolted insert inside the frame rails.
Really enjoyed this one. Are the overall ratios of the auto and single speed rear similar to the manual and two speed?. Will the truck have more pulling ability versus top end speed?
I was wondering i have watched all your videos every single one And what your knowledge level is high from fab to rebuilds to electrical So on so on.where did you aquire your skills. Tech sckool, work at a dealer, I'm curious
i learned by doing. i have always had the attitude "what is the worst that can happen?" i can either pay someone to fix my stuff or i can make a mistake that might cost me this time but i will have the knowledge for next time. i figured if i was going to have to pay, it might as well be to learn.
so i was thinking about this last night the easiest and fastest way to have done this was reuse his old deck put an angled dovetail on it cut the backoff the frame off at a 45 degree angle put hinges at the pivot point and put a piston up front and boom budget rolloff
i have thought about this build over and over again for a long time. the way i am doing it is the best way for his situation. the bed i removed will also be used as a dumpster now.
@@j.c.smithprojects i agree i was mereley suggesting what wouldve been cheaper although your plan gives him 2 things instead of one so its better for sure thx for the reply jc
i would have liked to build this completely different but he has a very limited budget and i am not a rich man. i am giving him what i can to help stretch what budget he does have.
im not mad or up set just thought id let you know youtube has changed there add algorithms it seem this video had 10 add breaks so 20 advert for a 27min vid

You are doing a very nice job. Most shops wouldnt spend that much time or effort no matter how much money the customer had. Really enjoy watching .

Taking the time to wire wheel stuff down and paint it will pay off in the long run, Great work!!!!
Great explanation. Sir, you make an excellent job. Your budget work is the top work for others.
Fun to watch👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You, sir, are a kind hearted soul.
One of your better vidio's. No repeats No showing me how you remove rust and rusty bolts. Keep it up.

Truck coming along very nicely well done 👍
Boy the Mrs’s isn’t going to forget the brass fittings anytime soon lol
O' no the infamous brass fitting.😱 Well that's how I learned too.
Mr JC I enjoyed the video as always . Looks really cold up there. Stay safe and warm

The cable cutter that you were using! I had the same tool for years for my job !!!
they are klein. they are missing the "lock release" lever....snap rings came loose and fell off.

Once more thank you
well the truck he gets back certainly isn't going to look like the same ratty truck that he had when it rolled in. nice work mr jc.
at least the engine and the cab will be original....i think.
Hey JC you do great work and really explain things well. What happened to the International that you were working on with the 2 cycle Detroit with 4 psi, that the owner had found a low hour engine for

Hello JC, I was wondering what happen to the friends GM V8 rebuild? You was finding all sorts of things, should I say off about it. Say hi to the Mrs . Robin Jo from PA.

Have you done a 4WD conversion on an 11-16 Super Duty?
Inquiring mind would like some clarification. At 22:50 we get into an important and miss understood area.
Can you explain a better method and how you would do one?

Did the Chevy get down to the levy?

The good paint job will help keep the DOT, and local, LEOs happy too. With the centering pins broken, it must have DOG TRACKED a bit too.
HAVE YOU EVER TRIED FLUID FILM? I've used it to undercoat and it works great!
yes i have.
Great video thanks for sharing. What would have been the best method to cut and weld the frame back together?
i would have drilled new holes and cut off the extra frame behind the axle. if i had no choice but to cut and weld it, i would have done a 45* angle cut on the frame. then added a radius matching and bolted insert inside the frame rails.

i have no problem using parts i have laying around as long as they are an improvement and are safe.
Really enjoyed this one. Are the overall ratios of the auto and single speed rear similar to the manual and two speed?. Will the truck have more pulling ability versus top end speed?
they are similar. the truck will have more power and will have an adequate speed for the local work it will be doing.

I remember those cable ends 🤣
Why wouldn't you use the two speed. I really like them.
it has issues.
What paint and primer did you use?
acrylic enamel with a hardener.
Be careful with the torpedo heater.. I had a paint job ruined by running a kerosene heater in my booth after I was done.
your paint booth probably wasnt as drafty as my shop.
so i was thinking about this last night the easiest and fastest way to have done this was reuse his old deck put an angled dovetail on it cut the backoff the frame off at a 45 degree angle put hinges at the pivot point and put a piston up front and boom budget rolloff
