I really enjoy having these concepts explained again by someone to get the 'meta' idea of each

It is suspicious how all videos related to “building multiplayer” only discuss what it is and never how to build it.

    • @zeushi

A reason behind that is because they created a service to handle a very dense subject and implementation so that you don't have to build it. This is just how SAAS is. There are plenty of blogs and articles out there to put together something like this for yourself. They developed this technology solving that niche universally for their unity platform so that people who want to make multiplayer games can without that extra time investment of building out the tech. It would be awesome though it if was open source and you could deploy this one size fits all solution to your own cloud, perhaps someone is already working on that...

hey did they already release the new multiplayer system, i cant find a definitive answer on the subject and i want to start developing a small multiplayer game.
It's a shot in the dark but maybe you know something about it.
      Many thanks in advance.

@@jellemiddendorf2572 No they haven't. And that's a thing a lot of people complain about. They stopped working/supporting their previous solution "UNet" and didn't release anything new yet. Right now, I would advise you check out "Mirror", its an open source (completely free) updated version of Unity's old UNet. There is a lot of tutorials and documentation, as even the old UNet docs from Unity kind of still work with Mirror. They do have their own docs however.

Awesome! So this is not yet available? I thought this was available last year based on some early roadmaps, but maybe they need to be updated.

We just want to make a simple multiplayer game for our family to play together over our network. There should be a free way to put in simple multiplayer with up to 12 people as I come from a family of 15. We have no need of anti-cheating as we help each other cheat all the time. We LAN play together all the time, but we are using Unity to make a game where we start as kids and the player character grows up over a three year period and is eventually an adult. We are designing procedural mission that are never the same, so the game is re-playable for years. (NO PVP)
We use an HP Envy laptop with AMD A8 5550, 8 gig ram as our server.
We play on HP Omen 17" gaming laptops with 12 gig ram and NVidia dedicated graphics.
I will show this video to my son. He is a programmer and our iT guy.

Any progress on this? You don't necessarily need a framework to start a game server like in this video, LAN should only require some basic use of sockets - there's probably some libraries done in unity by other people to make it more high level and easier to code

It will be possible to create custom rooms (with name/password) for cooperative games with this new connected games? I mean, this "Orchestrator" will have a solution for playing with friends?

google and all these third parties need to comprehend that an indie game is like starting a fire... you dont start a fire by smothering it at the start. Photon, unity all provide a small scale FREE testbed up to 20 ccu. Its like the story of the golden goose and google etc are like the people strangling it for more golden eggs before its grown up. 42.30 smh anyone have the link for "stay tuned for next year" about costs?

I see why company who made CrossFire relies on earnings daily to maintain server and monitoring for cheaters as well. Toxic in community...that includes well in confrontation.
