Welcome to Band-Maid Zack! This is their first ever MV almost a decade ago - they have come a long way since! They are best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Check out one of their latest official live MV's to see just how far they have come. Try "Don't You Tell ME" live, or "Hate?" live and be amazed at what they can do in front of an audience!
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

This is Band Maid with training wheels on. Some bands would perhaps be content to stay at this level, because it’s pretty damn good, but Band Maid has progressed so much you won’t believe it! They just released a live video of one of their newest songs called “Hate?” and you should check it out next to see what they’re doing now. Plus they are fantastic live.

You reacted to their first music video in 2014. React to their latest live video, HATE?, released 2 days ago. Miku Kobato, the side guitarist of Red Rose, was unable to play the guitar when the group was formed, and in Thrill, the guitar is used as a decoration. She has now become a symbol of Zemaitis guitars and has a signature guitar, Flappy Pigeon.

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

This was Band-Maid nine years ago. They were good then, but look at what they've been doing over the last nine years. If you think "Thrill" is good...
...All I can say is that Band-Maid is a talented songwriting machine: drummer, bassist, guitarists, and vocalists are all amazingly skillful. And nine years on the road together has made them into an incredible live act that can pull a set list from over 100 original songs. They now write and produce their own music. Anime producers ask them to write Anime themes like "Shambles". They do awesome instrumentals like "From Now On" and "Onset".
Band-Maid blends pop, punk, prog, metal, jazz, funk, and whatever floats their fancy into some clever stuff - they are not just girls in maid outfits; they are a band of musicians' musicians who have you relistening to their tracks just to hear everything going on - and there is a lot going on.
Suggested listening: their last two live videos, "Don't You Tell ME" and "HATE?"

BAND-MAID certainly have some Metal influenced songs, they have so many influences, but consider themselves to be Hard Rock. This song was their very first Music Video from years ago, and if it hadn't gone viral, their label was going to drop them. Butthis was 10 years ago. And with 150 songs and counting they have come along way and have something for everyone. Don't like one? Move on to the next. Way back at the beginning, band founder, Miku, didn't even play guitar. Look again. She's not really playing. She had to learn on the fly while in a working band. But with band composer, Kanami's help, she plays well, while singing too, as well as writing most of the lyrics. She can keep up with the others who are some of the best musicians in the world.

Band-Maid call themselves "An impossibly hard rocking maid band." They just finished up their 10th Anniversary Tour, playing in the US, Mexico, Hong Kong & Japan. They have become their own genre. As great as their recordings are ( 8 albums + 1 on the way), they are even better Live. I've seen them 11 times so far, and each okyuji (show) is better than the last one. They don't have a bad song. Maidiacs incoming. They will tell you everything you need to know about Band-Maid. You can't go wrong with Band-Maid...and this is the first song that was a hit for them, actually saved them from having their contract cancelled. This is a great song, but they have grown much. Every one of these ladies is extremely talented. It's hard to pin them into a specific genre, they do a great job of blending different rock styles...a great heavy song I think is 'Moratorium' live..or a jazzy/bluesy hard 'Manners', and AC/DCish 'Puzzle', or a hard 80's hairband ish 'Bubble'....they all rock. Great group to react with!

Welcome, Zack. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): th-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/w-d-xo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html
     Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html
     ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” th-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/w-d-xo.html
 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.
 “P and D⁴” Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinDakaPanic810
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:
 Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: th-cam.com/video/DgxU-MVjta0/w-d-xo.html
     See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: th-cam.com/video/vjZkNeoGmhc/w-d-xo.html
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! In addition, their Japan tour finished up with 13 concerts, AND they’re writing and recording for their new album. Their 10th Anniversary Tour concluded at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26, 2023 and in Hong Kong Dec. 21! And their latest 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR SPIN OFF concert at KT ZEPP YOKOHAMA on February 22, 2024, where they played songs not performed at the 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena, was SOLD OUT!

Hi Zack Reacts, thank you for reacting to Band-Maid. Just like you I found Band-Maid thru the Thrill video. I liked Thrill and understood that Band-Maid were a good band. After Thrill I played all their videos in sequence, Real Existence and onwards. Within a week I knew I've struck gold. Three years later I have bought everything they've ever released and travelled to Japan twice to see them live, with another travel to Japan coming up next week. Band-Maid are the master of blending in any style from Punk, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop and more into their Hardrock base. They are phenomenal instrumentalists all of them, and Saiki the vocalist is the best front woman there is. Saiki is a great singer, any style, she is great. Miku's choruses and rythm guitar work is excellent and creats the Band-Maid sound together with the other maids. Thrill was given to them by the record lablel, written by outside writers.
It doesn't matter what Band-Maid song you react to, but I would suggest "alone". "alone" was the first song they recorded that were 100% written by themselves, it was released on their third release "Brand New Maid". Their catalogue consist of more than 120 songs, with 52 videos here on YT you have a lot to choose from.

There are four female groups that often are mentioned together, the other three are a bit more metal, but anyhow.
    * BAND-MAID - heavy rock, but can do almost anything. They do fantastic instrumentals.
    * Lovebites - heavy metal / trash / speed metal / ballads - those girls are skilled. Maybe best band of this type ever. They are classically trained and sometimes mix classical music into their songs. Maybe the only heavy metal band with a ballerina as singer.
    * Nemophila - now we are talking HEAVY and soft. They have done a couple of fantastic originals. They also love to do (very good) covers of mainly classic rock. These girls are pro. Plays anything, no limits. The most battle seasoned of the four groups. They have one of Japan's most known drummers. Earlier they had most live studio or music movies (that are fantastic) but today they have a bunch of fantastic live movies. They are totally brutal live. Prepare to leave their concerts in awe.
    * Hanabie - a new group with younger girls. Metal core and prog core. They are fun and they experiment. And they have the cutest deep growler on the planet. Their name is pronounced hanna-bee-eh.

Glad that you finally found Band-Maid and heard their very first MV "Thrill" released 9 years ago. The five members themselves have been together for 10 years and have well over 120 great songs to their credit. Please play their newest official live release from their November 2023 Yokohama Arena Concert called "Hate?" This song is amazing and shows how far this incredibly talented group of stellar musicians have progressed from their early days. "Hate?" is a hard-hitting song that showcases the reason why many consider Band-Maid as one of the best, if not the best, bands currently playing today. Cheers!

People are going to give you many suggestions and ALL are very good. My suggestion for you is to do an Official Live Video because that's where the true magic is. 65 years old with 53 yrs of going to concerts and IMO these ladies have no peers. They are the whole package when it comes to Rock music which is something I thought was going extinct. Music has been boring (mostly) for the past 35 years but these ladies lit a fuse in me that will last till the end. From my grandkids to my father (86 years), Band-Maid is their favorite rock band and my favorite band of all time. Welcome to the world of Maidiacs...Po!

Welcome to Band Maid. This is far from their best music. It is very early in their career, but it saved their career too. Their record company was going to drop them and they said they wanted to do one song their way and this was it. In a matter of days it got over a million views and the rest is history. Their evolution from this point musically has been amazing, since after this, they were allowed to write their own music. I'd recommend. "Domination" and "Freedom" before moving on to some more recent music such as "Manners" and "Black Hole" and then their most recent release yesterday of "Hate?" this will show you how far they have evolved musically. Don't base this band on this song. It gets way better than this one. Nice to see your reaction to this band. I always wonder why so many start with Band Maid and use this song? There are so many better ones.

    Try Hate live
    Band-Maid members are:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Cluppo! No, no, no… CLUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

  • @skrrytch
    @skrrytch 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, they can play❤ At least Kanami on lead guitar, Misa on base and Akane on drums are masters at their instruments. Then there is the lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound. And the last one Miku?! 🎤🎸🧙‍♀Well, Miku is Miku: Our little pidgeon 🕊, pure energy, phantastic backing vocals and harmonies with Saiki, sometimes wonderful lead vocals and these days very good on rhythm guitar (she wasn't able to play the guitar in 2013 when she founded the band). Wait until you watched her very special "Omajinai Time" (🪄 magic spell time) during their concerts which they call "Okyūji" (Serving).
You will get tons of recommendations for your next song and might have already a long list. As I said before: There is no bad Band Maid song so pick what you like:
Special live performances: Freedom (Live), Play (Live) and of course their latest "Don't you telll me" (Live) and "Hate?"
Hard rock performances: Moratorium (Live at Zepp), Rinne (MV), Dice (MV), Shambles (MV)
Varied songs: Corallium (Live at Shibuya), Influencer (MV)
Catchy chorus: Choose me (MV), Alone (MV), Secret my lips (Live)
Ballads: Memorable (MV), About Us (MV), Daydreaming (MV)
Instrumentals: From now on (MV), Onset (Live)
Miku songs: Sayonakidory (also acoustic), Time, Beauty and the Beast (sadly no good video)
And finally a great package of two live performances: Mannners/Blackhole (Offial Online Live)

Best band this century IMHO. It's funny because this song is so simple compared to their newer stuff. You should definitely check out Domination LIVE or Hate LIVE. They've always been catchy and fun, but now they're even more intricate and progressive while still maintaining the memorable hooks anyone can sing or hum along to. It's a fine line they've conquered for years now. And also, they do this across dozens of genres of rock. If I can give one piece of advice; never go into a Band-Maid song expecting to know what it sounds like, just expect it to be the best song you've heard that day. 😁 You'll be a Maidiac in no time. Cheers.

99.9% of Band-Maid songs are all positive, and the .1% that's not was produced by an American....go figure.....but it's in English.
That's Band-Maid, they'll throw every genre into one song. NTW- You left out the "funk" genre with MISA's (bass) feature.
Stay with these girls Zak, they are for real. I don't do Patreon for political reasons so I can't suggest anything. Doesnt matter because no matter what you pick it's great! ......they're that good.

Zack, Now you need to react to Band Maid's, "Hate?", the official live video, from their 10th Anniversary Tour finale in Yokohama this past November. "Hate?" really shows how far they have come and you will love their dueling guitars during the song.

More of a skate punk and hip hop listener but I do enjoy several of their songs. Recommend sticking to the official live videos. Nothing against the MV's. I can't add much to the great comments that are already posted here. I'm sure someone mentioned that the girl playing rhythm guitar and second vocalist, the band founder Miku Kobato (small pigeon), did not know how to play guitar at the time that this video was filmed. She was originally the sole lead vocalist in the band but decided that her voice was "too bright" for the music that they wanted to play so they hired vocalist Saiki Atsumi as the final member of the band. Miku has now become a damn good rhythm guitarist thanks to the lessons and advice from the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono.
Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and Don't You Tell Me. Be sure to check out some live videos just to see that they are able to pull off such complex music in a live setting. That will also let you see how Miku has progressed from holding a guitar for looks alone to laying down some awesome rhythm guitar while providing excellent backing vocals. Band-Maid has a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one song then choose another because it will be different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!

This is very nice and cute. But it was a long time ago. They have came much further today. So - there is much more to listen to.
This actual song is what saved BAND-MAID. They were not successful and planned to give up. Then this video got viral and they had to continue.
So - this video has a special place for BAND-MAID fans. And ... it is actually good also. Personally I listen to it now and then.
Today the girls are virtually beasts. Their stage presence is out of this world. They are fun and skilled and write catchy stuff.
Although they have some songs that is metal, I would call them rockers, they are mainly doing hard rock.
The standard piece to listen to is official live of Domination. That's a rector dream. All fall for it. But they have so much good stuff. The latest is a fantastic "Hate?" video.
One of my favorites is a live combo of "Manners" and "Black Hole". Then you learn to appreciate the fantastic bass player MISA (yes all caps).
"Black Hole" can be a bit hard to digest though. Needs some listenings before it really gets you. Its complicated. But "Manners" is pure and simple delicious rock.

My subjective opinion is that Band-Maid are THE best Hard Rock band on Earth but, if I was being objective, I'd have to say that Band-Maid are THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. I can't be fairer than that. Gotta recommend that you see them as they are now so maybe try either - or both - of the releases they've made in the last week or so, live performances of HATE? and DON'T YOU TELL ME. PS The colour scheme you picked up on was Miku, the band's founder, idea - it is based on the aesthetics of Sumi-e, Japanese ink painting, which only uses black ink on white paper though occasionally with small touches of colour (hence the red and blue roses in the headpieces of the vocalists).

This video is funny, belongs to a time when girls weren't allowed to use their own compositions and it's not a good depiction of the power of this band.
Check out the latest live video they uploaded to their official TH-cam channel "Hate?" They set the stage on fire in front of 16,000 fans.😎

They don’t sound anything like this song , so don’t expect to hear or see them looking like this or sounding like this on all their other songs

Contrarian here: I much prefer this older era of straight-ahead rock songs. Thrill, Dice, The Non-Fiction Days, Freedom (live). Yes they play very well... but recently for me, too much. Japanese rock/metal etc *tends* towards technique/complexity over songs/hooks, IMHO.
