The timing on those leg sweeps was masterful! Great fight
I feel the athlete was not in his straight mind once his coach began to ask for a knockout. Karate is more grounded, slow... but also stronger (in my opinion). So, if the fighter began to let the heat take up the mind, he'd blind himself for the adversary movement. Most of the sweeps happened at the end, after coach starts yelling "Finish him". Before that, Akimoto was more aware of spacing and rhythm.
I thougjt china would have won with all those sweeps. In real fight. Japan lost already.
they both threw almost all Round Kicks. almost no side kicks, front kicks, or hook kicks. hmmmm...
But that's all he had. Masterful they may have been but how much damage were they doing.

I think that Qiu timed the sweeps so well because he made the read that sometimes Akimoto's kicks were charged up for power, and that he often threw combinations in a left-right pattern, where the left or right punch was usually followed by its opposite kick. Awesome fight though.

I disagree. He only landed a few during the whole fight (the beginning is a compilation), and if you watch again, I think you'll find he was always on the defensive and was taking all the damage. Great fight with two great fighters nonetheless.

That's what distinguish a fighter with commoners, being swept over and over again doesnt break Akimoto's mental, if I were him I had must be thinking "damn man he's nullifying me, he's got an anti of my techniques" and yet he always stand up keep throwing his deadly combo as powerful ever. His combo is taxing but he keeps on delivering it without any sign of exhaustion, what a physic.

Sweeps in this rule set don’t impact the fight much. It might be embarrassing at first and annoying later on but nothing that would change the scorecards
In Kyokushin matches are framed as battles of attrition, with no head punches or an emphasis on traditional 10 point scoring methods the bulk of matches simply drag on until one of the fighters collapses from the body blows and can'tget back up in 3 seconds. Any high level Kyokushin karateka should be very used to getting the snot beaten put of him and simply standing up immediately.
Akimotos one two plus head kick is so fast it’s like another hand magically appears.

Wild part is that Qiu Jianliang's sweeps outside the ring would have done serious damage. He won the fight, but lost the kickboxing match.

@@grandwonder5858 it's the first time that i see both fighters, but Akimoto blocked/checked pretty much all Qiu's punches/kicks.... All he was abble to do where those masterful sweeps, but that is nowhere near enough for a draw, because Akimoto was vicious with his attacks (specially the 1~2~kick, those kicks were brutal)

How did those sweeps not give Qiu the win?! The scoring is weird under these rules.
The fighters probably knows the point scoring system that's why Akimoto didn't care much about getting leg sweeped time and time again.
Think about it this way, if leg sweeps gave more points, aki would have put more practice and emphasis in defending against them.
Because four sweeps versus numerous combos doesn't give you the win. Akimoto was landing four to ten shots per every one sweep from Qiu. Akimoto scored overall more points with more significant shots.
Akimoto with beautiful combinations and kicks. Qui is damn tough man, i was starting to get sickened see him take so many low kicks and seeing his legs start to change color.
I'm sure he must be a sanda fighter, I recognised him sometimes going for a grab over the low kick with his foot planted rather than lift his knee to check. In sanda rules the Chinese guy would've done way more damage. Catching a kick and aggressively converting into a sweep/throw really exhausts the opponent

I really like Hiroki Akimoto’s style. He is aggressive but technical at the same time. All of his fight in One Super Series have been entertaining. He 6-1 in ONE and 26-1 overall, so he has a pretty impressive record and resume.
Akimoto was on the offense the whole time but he didn't really do much damage. He was basically just point sparring. I think its strange how they don't let you grab kicks. That leaves too much offensive freedom for a karate practitioner. He can just flail away and not fear any repercussion. Worst case, is he kets swept

Every opponent that he fought said his kick are a hell of a good kick, even in this fight, in the end, announcing the victory you can notice the Chinese guy's leg all bruised. And dude, it's not because the other didn't cry that you didn't cause damage, this Chinese guy is just too tough, as every competitor at this level.

lol the point being made is that he can have a lot of offensive freedom if the opponent isn't allowed to grab kicks and sweeps don't count for points. With that much freedom, you could throw a barrage of off-balanced kicks to score points and not fear the repercussions of the openings you leave once you make your move. I have a Muay Thai and karate background. I'm saying these are flawed combat rules that work too well for certain styles
I don't really feel like he landed more clean shots either though. I feel I watched a one sided fight and then the judge's gave the fight to the guy who had no control over it.Even the commentator said the sweeps showed who was in control who was scoring. If completely controlling the pace and man handling your opponent isn't an easy win then obviously kickboxing rules don't dictate who the actual winner is.

If you watch some of these exchanges in slomo you see how they perfected their craft. This is such high level its INSANE

The Commentaries bias for the Japanese fighter was unbelievably overwhelming! The Chinese guy was way more consistent with awesome leg sweeps! The Chinese guy should've won...especially in a real fight!

qiu jianliang is a typically sanda fighter. he always try to grab leg.
in rules of sanda you can grab others leg and kick one time or just push them to fall.
qiu always attempts to grab legs from hiroki's kick that's his natural reaction cause his sanda training.

the jury's decision is ridiculous, the white pants was knocked on the floor so many times he d be put out of his misery in a real fight really fast.
If it were anyone else the fight would have been over in the first round due to Akimoto's combos. The sweeps set him off-balance but that was literally Qiu's only offense. Akimoto completely dismantled him as evidenced by the fact that QIu's body, head and legs were completely bruised up from the incessant pressure and non-stop combos AKimoto laid on him.
Commentary bias on this bout is beyond belief.

Told you One Championship always bias against Chinese fighters. How the Japanese keep falling down can win this match? The Chinese fighter not even fall once but the Japanese I think fell almost 10 times, what a shame. Next time they should name those judges, you know when they are Americans, Anglosaxon or English ancestry judges, basically Chinese fighters can withdraw before the fight because we already know who going to win, matches always going against Chinese fighters.

A very technical fight between two equally proficient and competent fighters. I enjoyed watching Akimoto's game plan and how he delivered a mixed approach between strikes and kicks. Both fighters were delivering and receiving multiple power shots the entire match. Quality upload!

I think the only thing missing from Hiroki's tools is a good jab. If he could use his jab more to set up his inside combinations and disengage he would be even better than he is now.

Took 2:53 for one of the sportscasters to finally comment that Akimoto is using a basic dutch kickboxing style tactic of 2-3 punches followed by a strong low kick.
This was really cool to watch as Qiu Jianliang seems to have much stronger kicks as a kickboxer (and is great at using them to sweep and keep distance) and that helped in the beginning but Akimoto's (kyokushin/Dutchboxing) 2-3 punch/kick combinations, ability to check/eat sweeps&kicks, and constant pressure to be on the offensive even a little bit made this a solid match to watch. Qiu Jianliang's kicks are great too; it's really refreshing to see someone who can utilize kicking to do sweeps (Akimoto gets swept so many times but just keeps getting up) and use kicks to mitigate range and deliver them with precision and power. These guys are both really great to watch head to head. ^_^
It's kyokushin, not Dutch
Dutch Kickboxing is HEAVLY influenced on Kyokushin Karate.
@@mrgsudo kickboxing is founded by Kyokushin karate 7th Dan black belt, Kenji Kurosaki, by combining Kyokushin and Thai boxing, then introduced it to Netherlands and North America.
@@mikewallice2795 As my understanding The Japanese, American and Dutch kickboxing have totally different foundations, but all of them involving some form of Karate and Boxing, in the same way that Muay Boran added Boxing to generate Muay Thai. There are several videos covering this subject in TH-cam under the name of "History of Kickboxing".
@@mrgsudo yes it is true there are differences, when Kenji Kurosaki introduced kickboxing to North American and Netherlands, there are some changes made of the kickboxing in each place. But it is still a fact kickboxing is introduced by Kenji Kurosaki, a Kyokushin 7th dan black belt.
Respect to both fighters as clearly them are all extremely good, but how did the Japanese end up winning this one after getting dropped 20 times? It's not like he had an overwhelming advantage in the other exchanges plus the commentary was clearly pretty biased...very interesting fight

Very close fight. Both guys are beasts. Akimoto seemed to have thrown more volume of strikes and looked to be more agressive. In the judges' minds, that's what probably gave him the win. Awsome fight.

Because taking someone down in one round while your opponent blocks all your strikes, counters you, kicks your leg so bad it turns red, and tanks any shots that actually partly landed in the other two rounds doesn’t deserve a win and is purely superficial in scoring.

We all know in reality the Chinese fighter was better... but the scoring system was on the Japanese fighter..
