    I had a similar experience. Couple years back, Went for viewing to buy an Octavia, but because i really needed the auto hold with electric side brake. Test drove 318i and S60 but the price tag wasn't sensible. So i went back to VW/Skoda and to choose between Golf, passat and Superb. In the end, the decision was for Superb because it just made better sense for the price tag with lots of features and the space. Stable Suspension on high speed is amazing when driving down hill with sharp curves. Have no complaints for last 2 years.

    My experience was not so different. I thought that as a car for my retirement I would probably get a C-Class - and Mercedes has finally discovered design, so attractive. But the price tag didn't appeal. And I found the dealers not very helpful. Many colleagues had Octavia estates (best selling estate in Switzerland). I test drove it but knowing I was going to move house I fancied the extra room of the Superb Combi. I fell in love with it and have been VERY happy with it for the last 5 years. I have practically all the options (but not 4x4 and only 220 not 280 HP). But it is quick, nimble, economical, roomy, stylish and effortless for long distances. I would happily buy a Skoda Superb again. I tell people that it's a Czech Audi A6. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

    • @Omgiamsotriggered
      @Omgiamsotriggered ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It basically is an A6 lol, its kinda sort of placed inbetween A4 and A6 room wise. VW/Audi owns Skoda so its using all the tech that a Passat or an A4/A6 would have. 280 hp version is literally a golf R engine detuned, its crazy.

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Omgiamsotriggered There’s an aftermarket chip tuning option that brings my 220 HP version up to 250 HP and even lower fuel consumption in economy mode but so far I have resisted the temptation.

    • @Omgiamsotriggered
      @Omgiamsotriggered ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RobWhittlestone Yeah I never really understood the whole aftermarket thing. U can swap half the engine internal parts and put it on 500 hp, thats not the point. Your engine was tested and made to be at 220 hp, it went thru all the tests and measures, its rated at that hp for longetivity sake. If u want power u can tune any engine, just dont get people crying later when it starts breaking every few 10k' kms/miles. If u plan on keeping the car you made a good decision.

      I liked skoda I had a skoda citigo which was peppy for a 1.0 NA and I really wanted an Octavia VRS as my next car but I chose a 320d estate and I won’t look back, the only thing I’m not happy with is the open differential.

    • @Omgiamsotriggered
      @Omgiamsotriggered ปีที่แล้ว

      Underrated? Skoda has been a topseller all over Europe for years, u cant walk out into a street in any European country and not see a Skoda appear instantly. Just because Americans have never heard of it doesnt mean its underrated. It uses VW chasis, tech and engine. I probably see more Karoqs and Octavia's on the daily basis then I do any other manufacturer combined.

    Went from a 320d to a octavia 2.0tdi combi. I've been driving it for almost 5 years now and it's still a brilliant car. Much more room than the bmw and has been going strong without any hickups for 270.000 km now. Really cheap to run and enough power for me (184 hp), while doing 20km/L. Overall I like it way better than the BMW, better seats (for me.. I know it's personal) and I had the topped up versions with options on both cars. It's not exciting in any way, but it gets the family around pretty damn comfortable.

    Unfortunately, I have seen VAG cheap out more and more these days, and this includes Škodas. I found the previous gen Octavia had much more attention to detail, and had more of the "simply clever" stuff - I found the removable boot light very useful. The new one however, sips very little fuel, even less than the previous gen, and half of what a 14-year-old Corolla does. Seeing how much new cars cost, I would wait for fleet cars to go on sale - most of them will be Octavias, which are already massive inside, and perfectly fine for the average family.

    If you got a bigger engine in the Octavia it does change the character of the car for the better. I have the Octavia 4x4 with 150 bhp 2.0 tdi. It's really very capable, and the VRS is something else, as is the Scout. I know what you mean about feeling jealous about rear seat passengers comfort. I used to get the same feeling in the Peugeot 504 and my Alfa 164...and the old XJ6 Jaguars. It is really nice in the back of a Superb.

      I've got an 07 Passat B6 Sportline with stock lowering springs and Stock Bilstein Shocks and the car drives exatcly almost exatcly like a bmw. The only difference is that the steering a bit too light and has no resistance but I can feel the road thru the steering quite sharply. The car can go through corners really well and is stable. I'd like to get bigger 18 inch wheels on it to so I can get the full benefits of the suspension.

    Skoda are cheaper versions of VW's some people say. In my opinion though, they are probably the best of almost any car. Comfort, sporty, many engines, brilliant practicality, interiors good, more options if you prefer more for extra money, and unlike some manufacturers they're not giving up with estates and sloping roofline hatchbacks, which some countries call sedans, like saloons in some countries are called sedans. I think Skoda is a great brand

    • @Omgiamsotriggered

      Id say they used to be, newer Skodas have gone up heavily in prices. A good specced Skoda (v)RS (with a golf GTI engine) starts at around 40k€ and can climb all the way to high 50s. That is absurd for a Skoda, but they sell them like hotcakes, Karoqs and Kodiaqs are all over the place.

    I do agree with you Superb is better than 3 series and C class. But bare in mind they are not in the same category at the end of the day. The choice you mentioned as boring and bland (Octavia) is a compotator or the "C" class and 3 series. Superb is more compared to E class and 5 series. But i have to admit, if I had to choose between these options I would go deff with the skoda as well! And not to mention if you go with L&K trim is fully loaded, for which in Audi you have to pay a fortune to have!

If I have to choose a C class or Octavia, yeah i would go with the c class. But If C class compared to superb i would deff choose superb over the C class. Again Superb is more like limousine higher end that a small sedan like C class, more practical and with the right trim and engine is better value and choose for me despite the badge.

    I've always been a Vauxhall man, my last was the Insignia Grand Sport. When it came to replacement time, Vauxhall, (PSA), had decided to discontinue the car. As they had nothing else to offer, I, like you, checked out the competition. To cut a long story short, I placed an order for the Octavia Estate Tech 1.5 150 ps. after a six-month wait, I went to the dealership to take delivery. After a good look, I rejected the car because of the lack of physical knobs and buttons. I then almost bought a Citroën DS9 until I found out the cost to insure it. I went back to Škoda, and placed an order for the Superb Estate Tech 1.5 150 ps, and for the past six months I've been a happy bunny, better than the Insignia in almost every way. If the 2024 Insignia fails to impress me, I'll be staying with Škoda, but next time I'll go for the cloth seats option, the leather seats are too slippery, too hard, too hot in summer, and until the heated seats warm up, too cold in winter.

    Actually I came to exact same thought about 80% of BMW for a half of it’s price, I drive Skoda SuperB Estate 4x4, got the Koni Sport shocks, remap to 370hp and DC brake pads, and I would say It’s awesome: accelerates like a rocket 4.7 sec 0-100, very good handling and stoping power, also it provides great equipment with a matrix LED, adaptive cruise, 360 cameras, acoustic glass in a front etc. not all Mercedees has all of that.
    I also had experience driving BMWs: and even driving it on a closed track as a part of BMW Driving experience courses, and I see no reason to pay twice as much for a something like a 530d, yes it has it’s own pros, but the price difference is just not worth it. I expected MUCH bigger difference from BMW and it really disappointed me that cheaper Skoda is even better in some ways, for example 4x4 version feels more neutral and has less understeer than an BMW with x-drive, it really shocked me that after all that talks about handling and ultimate driving experience it goes straight out of the corner - no fun at all.
    Great equipped superb with some mods is just unbeatable for what it gives, especially if we’re talking about 4x4 estate, it’s really superb.

    I'm a Czech and we have Skoda cars everywhere here and I must say that the first two generations of Superb had some spirit, especially the second generation was quite unique, I didn't like it back then but now I very much appreciate they had balls to do something different.
    These day I cannot really tell difference between Scala, Octavia or Superb, yes, there are differences, they have different sizes and so on, but it completely lost any kind of ambition to stand out.
    It's so focused (forcefully by VW, I imagine) on being plain that it has become invisible to my eye. I don't want a car with no soul, nothing that would excite me, car is not just an object that transfers you from A to B, there is a connection with its driver.
    And don't let me started on levels of features. In Ambient version you basically get just a steering wheel. Compare that to Mazda, absolute difference.

The Superb is a little bigger than the Octavia and its a little more Subdued, but still looking classy and fast looking Where as the Rs Octavia is more in your face, a wanna-be boy racer, a look at me type thing going on. I will have to go and see them and drive them to make my mind up, I like the slight bigger size of the Superb and its a little cheaper but it s a 2020 version, Rs is 2021, but near the same mile as well,, but the RS has a few more toys. at the end of the day you are sitting in a SKODA...
    no matter how much are convincing yourself and others that this car is a great option:
    ...you just look cheap.
    Its like wearing cheap shoes vs Air Jordans, to a Basketball Match...It changes nothing, but EVERYBODY KNOWS... and you do too.

      Well unless you are like 12 years old and you still care what people think about you. Then yes. Nothing wrong with paying a premium to look rich. As for most truly wealthy people they don't care what people think about them. We traded our audi q5 to a Skoda and could not be happier.

      @@scilens1049 yea. Whatever the case maybe the Škoda was more expensive than the audi since its an ev. So it just show's ppl have no sense of what is cheap or expensive. It's that shallowness and ignorance.

      But again nothing wrong with expensive things. As long as u don't buy them to please others or get their approval. Cheers :)

      It is just the way it is.
      I do not say it is a bad car, but face it, you buy a Car with a Badge. And you chose one that shouts: i am cheaper than VW ans Audi...

    because you haven't owned one for long. Vw, audi, Skoda, they aren't nowhere near the level of bmw and mercedes.
    That skoda's interior looks like an old passat I owned, but with a slighly bigger screen in the middle.
    And as for reliability... bmws and mercedes are bulletproof when compared to VAG stuff...
    Anyone that tells you the contrary hasn't owned one for long. In 10 years time an audi, vw or skoda owner will wish he was sitting in a mercedes or bmw.
    The day you try a bmw or mercedes with more than 1600cc of displacement you'll see how wrong you were.
    That skoda is an absolute bathtub when it comes to "sportiness". The way a rwd car turns in is just different, it's point and shoot.
    Just get real, you didn't get a c class or a 3 series because you didn't have the money to buy a proper one with a good engine.

    Let me teach you...
    Fabia is equivalent to Polo, A1...
    Octavia is in class with A3, Golf, but has more features so it is kinda similar to Audi A4
    Superb is the same class as the 5 Series and E class, Passat, and A6, you can't compare superb to 3 series, totally different chassies.

    Anything European, especially from luxury brands, is blacklisted for me. They have an absolute terrible representation for long-term reliability and quality in my country. How the German brands are such huge forces in the automotive world will forever be a mystery to me. I truely can't think of any reason to buy one beyond leasing. They depreciate like bricks as well because the used market knows how bad they are.
    I just can't help think it's so irrational to even consider these brands. The way you say you love the MB badge but have little to nothing positive to say about the cars. There is absolutely nothing cool about MB. They all look the same. Copy and paste. With giant fake vents where they were too cheap to add foglights.
