    There's a Guy Savoy restaurant called "Les Bouquinistes" near Place St. Michel which is where I had my epiphany about French wine and food in 1996 when I was a fresh ex-pat lost in a new culture (6 years of German in school didn't help...) -- Ah the 1989 Chateau Cadet Bon...*sniff*
    Now these many years later I'm a true blue Francophile (and speak better French!) I return here every trip to pay homage.

    Its normal for Parisians to take at least 1 hour for lunch !
    In allot of european countries its sacret to just chill atleast 1,2 hours around 11:30 -12:30 till 12:45/ 14:00.
    they just leave work, sit at a restaurant an enjoy there meal have some wine and desserts.
    In Spain the siesta they take even more time for lunch ! allot are taking 2-3 hours lunch breakes. They just leave there work go outside to a bar of restaurant then take a little nap for 30 minutes and then go back to work.

    Berthillon isn't just the best sorbet, it's the best ice cream in the WORLD. BTW, don't get it at the restaurants that are near the bridges on the Île Saint-Louis: they overcharge for it. Go to the store itself along the main drag the Rue Saint-Louis en Île, the one that Rick was walking along with his buddy.

    @piefrance I am studing French and planning a trip to Paris next Spring '12. The francophone people tend to not worry so much with issues such as raw meat. I know, I just cannot imagine, but I hear that the steak tartar is quite good. I will probably try it. Can't be any worse than Sushi, and I like sushi. And the legal drinking age is 16. In Switzerland, our French Professeur drank beer (instead of milk) in her high school.

    Go to Paris with no preconceived notions, forget what others have told you about how “horrible” the city is, see it for yourself and make up your own mind. Learn a bit of French, take it all in, and you’ll very likely have a great time. 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🇪🇺

      I traveled alone, speak only A2 level french (and with forgetting grammar a lot due to nerves) but interacted happily and confidently and met nothing but friendly people. Except one lady who ran a cute shop and seemed bored by having someone come in, but I expected everyone to be like that so I wasn't offended and it added to my authentic Parisian experience 😊

It's always overtime with a massive workload and no overtime pay. Unless u work in a call center which works for foreign companies where they observe very strict timings.

    I think the tour guide is a flirt

  • @Schlomothebest
    @Schlomothebest 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Wow - sorry for my English, I'm French ! Which kind of guide is this tour guide !? "Bouquin" is not an old french word ! It's french slang for "book". And it's not "plat principal" but "plat de résistance" ! So much ignorance of french language makes me mad !
    And the steak tartare isn't even properly done. Tartare should be freshly chopped using a knife and certainly not a grinder. But "Le Bosquet" is known to be one of this touristy rip-off places Americans seem to like. When will Rick Steves fans will learn to chose their restaurants by themselves ?
    My advice for a good restaurant anywhere in France : not more than 5 different choices of "plat de resistance" on the menu, otherwise it's not fresh !

    Because of the countless cars saturating the traffic, because of people who can't be bothered to get a plastic bag and clean up after their dogs, because there are so many careless tourists (Paris = most visited place on Earth for ages now) who can't be bothered with throwing their stuff in one of the billions trash cans all over the city (but not just tourists, of course, let's be honest), etc, etc...
    But you're exagerating a bit, it's not that dirty. I've seen far worse in Europe.
