I create this video review without spoilers for people who haven't seen the movie yet, so we can discuses it in comments section, but also for those who already saw it. It's mainly my thoughts why this movie is very unique.

Loved that film. The main actor has a look in his eye I have seen before, dangerous, dead, get the hell away from him
Had to tell the people here complaining, that they don't know anything about the actual point of the movie. Instead they complain about berserkers not looking right, or vikings being dirty. Like living in the harsh north wasn't difficult as fuck. Go live in Norway in winter with nothing modern to aid you. You'll be dead by January.
i don't see what's viking about this movie, it's all pure fantasy. They weren't half naked savages dancing in a transe with a shamanic witch, that's modern day fantasy. Historical northmen would look disappointingly close to europeans... So no fur cloaks, no prehistoric style shamans, no half naked cavemen...
1) It's an Eggers film. ALL his films are fantastical half dream-like movies. But you say "no shamans, no cavemen". You don't have the faintest idea about how brutal our culture was. But the movie is fucking Hamlet by Shakespeare. That's it. "Amleth" --> "Hamlet".
@@Frederiknshansen there's a difference between violence and being dressed like a caveman. A shaman druid with a bone crown ?? Really ?? That's pseudo neolithic stuff, it has nothing to do with nordic culture. It's like putting 16th century pirates in the bronze age and then saying "bro pirates were BRUTAL". It's just not viking, it's fantasy, it never existed.
It is definitely stereotyped, but it’s the reputation the Vikings got. Most nations encountered them only through battle so it’s all they knew about them. But you’re right that the majority of the population would be no different than anywhere else, and the rich folk would have proper armour and weapons.
It wouldn’t make for fun TV though, think how boring braveheart would be if it was historically accurate.
@@TheChilledNorwegian well idk, i think it can both be historically accurate and entertaining, you don't need to put horned helmets on vikings to make a good story with interesting characters. Some movies are historically accurate and nice to watch
The only thing that they screwed up on this film is 99.9% of your Vikings were 5.7 and they weren't muscle-bound brutes you guys got to realize they were farmers and where the hell did they find the time to pump iron to get that big and most of your people back in those days were 5.7 to 5 ft 9 and I always show them as filthy as possible trust me they weren't dirty brutes they were very clean people actually they believed in hygiene very much you know they weren't neanderthals to where they didn't realize you know filth and infections don't go to go together you know they they knew that that's what just pisses me off about these films is they make them like their Neanderthal brutes and they're not
They did seem clean - the vikings that is. Not their fucking slaves. I agree with you to some extent, but you thinking that they were "brutes" from this movie just shows me, that you don't understand viking-culture. We are still aggressive today. We still feel pride in knowing our ancestors killed their enemies and sacked Paris.
Scandinavians have always been big. Farmers, woodcutters, and other labourers were always strong, especially before heavy machinery. Even today manual labourers are strong. If you go to the Scandinavian countries today you will see most people are quite tall as it’s become genetic.
They might not be finely toned brutes like in the movies but they were strong enough to get a feared reputation for being great warriors.
“Viking” was an occupation not a people and you didn’t watch this movie if those are the complaints you have. It’s like some far future civilization calling the people that used to live in North America the “Navy Seals people and disrespecting their Navy Seals culture”.
Vikings the TV show was closer to the problems you describe than this movie; but that’s it, just closer not guilty, so relatively speaking this movie is even further removed from your complaint.
The guy narating this video doesnt know squat. I watched this movie and it blows PERIOD dont waste your time.
Well. I watched it and felt it was great. Actually watched it several times and I fucking come from Viking-stock. It isn't meant to be realistic - it's fucking Hamlet ffs. A Shakespearean play reimagined by Eggers. If you are too dumb to know this and still complain, I just say that you should perhaps stop watching movies for thinking people. Star Wars and Marvel is that way -->

Pretty decent movie actually.
People who wanted violence were satiated, art house snobs were satisfied.
So, good film then. Just maybe not for you?
