    What did you think of the battle between Komamura and Bambietta, and my potential rewrite of Komamura's fate? What was your favourite moment of the battle, and do you think the anime will change it in any way? Let me know your thoughts down below!

      I always thought Kubo was saying that revenge is two fold. Tousen sought revenge for his friend and against an unjust world. Komamura sought revenge for Yamamoto against an enemy that's threatening the Soul Society. You put your life on the line for the reasons you choose in war. And it's up to you to give it meaning. Yeah, you can argue it's not worth it but Bambietta was out of control and needed to be dealt with. While he may not have beaten Ywach, he did pave the way for others to do so and in war, that's all you can really ask for.

      It feels like Komamura should've kept fighting while becoming more unhinged and less human before finally falling. When Iba picks up Komamura I wish his eyes would go from yellow to white to show there was still some humanity there.

    It’s legitimately terrifying, imposing and unsettling.

    • @gabrieldossantos1116
      @gabrieldossantos1116 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's kinda the opposite of Renji's Bankai for me. Renji's Bankai was a massive upgrade in strength but loss a huge part of the "terrifying boss" desing. Komamura's made it both stronger and scary as shit.

    • @thelightseeker94
      @thelightseeker94 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I disagree on Renji's new Bankai looking less intimidating. Renji's first bankai looked cool at first glance and the baboon cannon move was cool. But if you look at renji's fights throughout the series in comparisson to other bankai users his was sorta lame. Even Ikakku's Bankai was better imo.But the new bankai In TYBW is everything it's supposed to be interms of making Renji effective in battle & a serious threat to whoever faces him. I can't wait to see it animated.

    • @KaiserAfini
      @KaiserAfini ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gabrieldossantos1116 Renji's bankai evolves to reflect he isn't trying to prove himself a great shinigami anymore (because bigger bankai are normally perceived as stronger), but recognizing he is a great one and now needs to do his duty well. Komamura's changes to reflect him becoming a man with nothing left to lose, no longer concerned with his future and animated by his will for revenge alone.

    I think that Saijin's sin for which he winds up being punished isn't his pursuit of revenge, but his abandoning his companions to do so. I think that Iba's statement, while a confirmation of Saijin's desire for revenge, is also a mild rebuke for trying to go it alone.

      Seems like that might not be the case, at least in the anime (probably in general considering Kubo’s involvement) since it’s made more clear that he’s prioritizing his companions before even going to fight Yhwach. But I feel that the fact he uses his power like this before even meeting Yhwach makes his fate even more tragic as he never even got his chance to avenge Yama’s death (which, as crazy as it sounds, makes me wonder if he might have had a chance at winning at that point).

    In regards to the armor, my impression was that Yamamoto gave it to him long ago. Perhaps when he became a captain, as prior to that we don’t see him in the armor, though still covering himself. Him arriving to the battle in it then makes him seem like a ghost of Yamamoto, which makes sense as Komamura is here to avenge Yamamoto and about to throw everything away to do so, adding more to him shedding the armor as him letting go of everything

    I really like this fight. And I think it is fitting that it is very quick and that Komamura almost immediately suffers the consequences of his actions...after all, we saw how much he wanted to help Tosen abandon his quest for revenge, only to let himself turn into a heartless beast to avenge someone...his story is a tragic one, but this feels like a fitting, if somber, ending to Sajin's story.

    Bambietta is crazy though and a big liability. She is even a bigger dictator and much crueler than Yhwach. She thinks of herself as the self proclaimed leader for Bambi squad. Thats why even if the other girls do care for her, she is too much of a liability to keep around. She is too prone to destroy everything around her. So they are fine with Bambietta being a zombie. The other 4 actually rely and help each other and are able to work together much more cohesively. They leave Bambietta behind as she is too controlling and act crazy. For this, tosen and ichigo they all got revenge by giving up their hearts and felt empty. Ichigo got blasted and turn into a hollow where the heart get lost and become a mask and become a beast. When ichigo regain his heart he didn’t say he didn’t want to kill uquiora just not that way. Tosen willingly gave up his heart to be a vizard but by giving up his heart for sight he lost his values and changed forever. Yamamoto shelf his heart for rage and that resulted in him not thinking and falling. Komamora is probably the best case scenario where he gave up his heart for the right values and cost but fail to understand no one wanted him to give up his life for victory and kiba reinsurance that revenge is the right call he isn’t giving up his heart, he is still carrying the now fox captain charging to the battle for revenge for everyone but also a better future. I think the themeing between Bambietta and Komamura is based on the simple fact that Komamura has always been known for his Incredible durability. Bambietta nullifies any sense of durability and in fact turns that durability into vulnerability. So Komamura gains the ultimate durability: immortality.
    Then they both lose everything in the worst way possible. Komamura loses any trace of humanity and his Soul Reaper powers, failing to avenge Yamamoto and realizing he's nothing but a hypocrite after what he said to Tosen. Meanwhile Bambietta, the pridful "leader" of the bambies. loses her "self" and becomes nothing but a zombie slave for Z.
    So you could also say there's a theming of the price of arrogance or pride/hubris.

    Both Bambietta and Sajin got it rough here. Sajin now lives on a mountain as a beast while he's officially declared KIA with his body missing, while Bambietta has a pretty jarring case of PTSD with the battle being a key component of it. Still despite being deadly enemies they got something of an ending, Sajin being 'free' from the burdens of being a Shinigami while life in the peaceful human world has had a positive therapeutic effect on Bambietta. Regarding the idea that "Wanting to get Revenge on someone is a sin".
    I think it is clear what the Kubo is trying to say when we look at the different characters and the ways they try to pursue that goal.
    Characters like Ichigo and Rukia both want to get revenge on Yhwach and As Nodt for what they did to their family. However, we see that they do not try to achieve that goal by sacrificing who they are/abandoning the other people that care about them.
    However, characters like Gin, Tosen, and even Komamura, do end up doing this, and as a result are not only punished, but they are no truly able to actually complete their revenge.
    The fact that Gin actually tried to guide Ichigo and made him realize that he could not face Aizen during that moment, is part of the reason that made Ichigo able to look within himself and gain the strength he needed to defeat Aizen. This was Gin actually helping someone, rather then just believing that only he could (and should be the one to) stop Aizen.
    We even see this in CFYOW, in how Hisagi, who is the one great legacy Tosen left behind that was not tainted by his desire for revenge, is a major part of Tokinada's downfall.

He told him that only he had the power to steal his bankai. Komamura's arc is imo a parallel to Oedipus. Just like Oedipus, komamura's seeking of his family is his downfall. They are tragic heroes and their downfall was written before their time even started. Both of them were cursed from their very birth. So in my opinion it is not revenge or any other worldly desires that was the downfall of komamura but his existence was tainted from the very birth.

    The Beast Elder is definitely playing Komomura, as it's a win/win for the Elder, either way. Either Komomura "abandons the shinigami", or he sacrifices his life to sustain the Elder's.
    We know they were a clan that institutionalized revenge. This was also very true of Japanese clans throughout the Warring States Period (1500's). Even "47 Ronin" is a tale of loyalty & revenge, one of the most popular tales in Japanese theater, to this day.
    I think the lesson is, revenge is always an option, but it doesn't sustain a person (per the Elder needing to feed on "revenge") and often leaves them more scarred than before.
    I think Tengen dissappearing immediately represents the lack of fulfillment that revenge ultimately brings. You can take your enemy's life, but that changes a person, often for the worst.
    The Elder being so large and ancient I believe represents how universal the desire for revenge is for human beings, in general.

Their philosophies switched by the war and this shows in komamura giving everything for SS while bambi ran and several other sternritter rebelled. Listening to this again, I had a theory come to mind as to why Jinka no Jutsu ends as soon as Bambietta is done. I wonder if Komamura's elder is somehow able to see what Komamura is experiencing and that's how he's seemingly able to narrate perfectly in time with Komamura. He might also be able to control the duration of the technique, stopping Komamura before he's really able to find any vengeance and so is stuck in that loop forever while his elder gets to "sip on that black resentment", as he says.

    I think the moral of the story here is that even if revenge is justifiable, one should never let it change who they are. Komamura promised his life to Yamamoto, but there are many other people he is responsible for; yet in his pursuit of revenge for Yamamoto’s death, he essentially left all of them behind, abandoning them for his own goals.
    This ties into my thoughts on the nature of Komamura’s transformation: it’s not a sacrifice, but a trial. For those brave enough to attempt it by ripping out their heart, they regain a human form. As long as they avoid giving in to their hatred and anger, they remain in this human form; but the moment they fall back into their clan’s sin, they fail this trial and revert to a bestial form. If Komamura had instead turned and gone to help his allies, he might have retained his human form far longer. Instead, he was consumed by his desire for revenge and chose to chase after Yhwach, failing the trial and thus losing the power immediately.

    What I think it was trying to tell is that perhaps the quest for vengeance has it's gray sides to it. It has it's good and it's bad. It was a noble reason to go about it, but like Tosen, Komamura went about it wrong. He gave in to the darker urges of his clan and sought out the quickest way to increase his power, just like Tosen. Perhaps if he went in with the thought of trying to help as many people as he could instead of solely killing Yhwach, maybe his transformation would have lasted longer. It feels to me that as soon as Komamura has his sights on his target for revenge, the price is paid. He's giving in to beastly urges of revenge or something, and thus pays the toll. That's just speculation though.

    I actually like that ended in that moment. The point of the fight is about the consequences of our reckless actions and Komamura pay for that. Him staying longer would make the point worthless and diminish since he would do more things, meaning that hes sacrifice was worth. But there Is also a balance that Kubo made in allowing Iba have a final words with Komamura to reflect in his course of actions. So i said Kubo did the best and perfect writing decision in allowing Komamura to fail in that place instead in another.

    I like how poetically opposite both Bambi and Sajin Stories ended up. Bambi is a human, who doesn't care about human live or protecting it. But ended up as a Slave and lesser being for her selfishness.
    Sajin on thr oehrr hand was Half animal soul reaper, who did care about protecting life. But because of his one selfish Act he ended up as just a Wild but free Dog. Yet he choses to dtay by his lieutenants side.

    There are two types of vengeance. The first is the most well know misplaced/only rage filled revenge. This one just is rage filled and it lashes out at everything connected to whatever it is that sent the person into the rage. The second one is duty/honor-bound vengeance, this is one where it’s directed at the direct cause of this rage and anything that gets in his way, think like Kratos from the God of War games. I loved the fight as a whole thou and I think I can see why Yamamoto brought Komamura could be something as simple as “This soul has great potential for the good of Soul Society. I can’t let this chance go by.”, and when he found out what Komamura was he was probably like “Huh, a member of the Beast Clan, I’ve worked with worst.”

    The "V" in the "Vollständig" is actually spoken like the F in Fist for example. The expression meaning "Complete" or "Whole".
    There is no expression such as Voll-Stern-Dich which btw means Full-Star-You ^^'
    Given the nature of the ritual it fits rather well, though I never really understood the japanese obsession with the german language ,especially regarding the Quincy.
    I know it is somewhat fitting but I still can't actually make any sense of it tbh.

    The way I see his story is like this:
    He mirrors the problematic nature of fighting for vengeance that was displayed through Tosen. It is a fall for Sajin's story and nature and he was blinded by it, just as Tosen was blinded by being able to see. With Iba comforting him I think it's about showing us that the way forward was to work with everyone else who strived for the same end goal, whether for revenge or not. Sajin turned his back on his friends and colleagues to gain power. As for the Elder I think it's all about him being content with the fact that Sajin fell from grace and became what the clan is about. It's a bit of a sick take, Schadenfreude if you will. It reaffirmed his own beliefs that the clan cannot change and will remain as sinners that always give into the beast inside.

    Part of me wonders if Komamura was underrated not only because of his lack of time in the spotlight but the fact he was an anthromorphic wolf (i legit thought he was a fox). As far as I know, eastern fantasy or manga culture doesn't harbor much appreciation for these character designs, often preferring humans or humanoids (read, humans with animal bits, but still human faces). I still much prefer wolf Komamura and believe that he deserved a better ending. In the end he just wanted to do good.

    The point is Komamura never hated Tosen because he knew they were the same. Human being seek revenge. This plot line even implies that the beast clan's sin involved the pursuit of revenge. Revenge isn't evil, but you will be punished for pursuing it. Tosen was punished after Komamaru warned he that he would be and Komamaru was punished after his grandfather warned him that he would be. The pursuit of revenge will involve punishment. Not because seeking revenge is wrong, but because there is a cost to revenge.

    • @MrJusticeShannon
      @MrJusticeShannon ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnlucas2838 I don't think the revenge mattered. They were punished because they sought revenge. One man's revenge is no holier than his peer's. Komamura avenging Yamamoto is just as sinful as Tosen avenging his love. The point is you will be punished for it. That is just the rule of revenge, that's what Kubo is saying with this subplot. It's why Uryu lost his powers the first time he went to Sereitei (if he didn't get emotional over his grandfather he may not have needed Letz Stiel if he prioritized escape, like he was supposed to do). Kubo is telling us through repetition that revenge has a cost. It doesn't matter what you're avenging, there is a cost.

  • @MrGksarathy

    I'm honestly against extending Komamura's role or rewriting his fate because I feel it was a harsh lesson on the futility of staking everything on revenge. In giving up his heart and thus, his restraint, Komamura ultimately destroyed any chance he had to avenge Yamamoto in the first place, just as Tosen ultimately fell when he lost sight of himself upon accepting Hollowfication.
    That, or if he lasted longer, I feel he should have ultimately continued his charge towards the Silbern, but after taking on several Sternritter and Soldat in his way, he ultimately fell mere steps from the castle, ultimately not coming even close to his target.

    One potential storyline for the Hell "arc" is to have Komamura drawn to Hell because his ancestors are making a ruckus or some other criminal activity, and finally permanently severs the chain of fate that his grandfather talks about for himself and/or his clan, thereby restoring him to fully human but perhaps keeping the aspects of his beast form that were there before as a reminder of what that path leads to.

    Theory, I like to think this is komamura’s equivalent of ichigo's mugetsu, Koma achived the height of his bankai and literally became it and transcended both! he could've come against anyone at that point and won. His bankai's height was to literally become death, he then subsequently lost his powers in almost the exact way ichigo did. The final Tengen myo’o

    I think Komamura's ultimate end was supposed to mirror his Tousen's.
    Tousen was angry wanting revenge for a loved one and went to Aizen for power/justice. It ultimately gave him power but without success and it also cost him everything becoming the very things he swore to destroy. Similarly Komamura while earlier condemning Tosen went the same path - only Aizen was replaced by the Elder - and ended up the same way.
    The problem isn't revenge but going too far in the path and losing oneself. Similarly in Naruto both Sasuke and Shikamaru wanted to avenge their loved ones (family and sensei respectively). However Sasuke left the village to join Orochimaru and became a missing nin while Shikamaru while motivated by revenge never lost himself to it.
    Similarly Tosen betrayed the Soul Society and the memory of his loved one while Komamura stayed loyal and dutiful.

  • @Aaron-uj6iy

    I don't mind the bleak ending of the fight but I kinda think that the forms length should have been dictated by how much your consumed by revenge as an example if he was completely consumed with revenge he would have just ignored his allies to try a satisfy his need for revenge but since that's just not who he is it shortens the time or even it could have been something like he intentionally held back on his final strike breaking the transformation at the end of the fight

    Spoilers here:
    In the bleach we do not always love you light novel, komamuru and Iba are shown again as Iba was captain and he had two people from the wolf clan become Shinigami in his squad. Those two Shinigami were also communicating with komamuru as a wolf and were interpreting for Iba. It also seemed like komamuru is playing the mentor role for these two people and it kind of made me glad that he was doing something to be happy.

      Her fate was 100% deserved after looking the actions she performed while being drunk in both madness and lust. She portrays a horrible side of humanity, normally attributed to killers that fully indulge in their desires of evil.
