    Her father was legendary sitar musician and close friend of George Harrison, Mr. Ravi Shankar. Not only does she have the voice of an angel, she kind of looks like one, too.

      Salute to Ravi Shankar, one of the greatest musicians to walk the planet. If you got 18 minutes, check out his set at the Monterey Pop Festival. You’ll see some familiar faces dumbfounded in the crowd.

    I used to come home for a long day at work. Eat some dinner then lay down on the couch in the basement, turn on this Nora Jones CD and nap with my newborn snuggled on my chest. Her voice would carry me away and relieve all the stress of the day. My cares and worries melted away with every note of her songs. Nothing mattered but my family and the peaceful feeling this whole album would saturate my being with. So glad you reacted to her. A great anchor for New Years Eve.

    Norah was huge in the early 2000s. She didn't have many songs that garnered tones of radio airplay, but this song (her first single) was one that did. She did amass a huge following, though, and you can hear why. ""Sunrise", "What Am I To You?" and "Thinking About You" are all great outings by Norah. Thanks for reacting, and have a great new year, guys!!

    One of the best voices of the early 2ooo's. Her debut album and singles went platinum 10 times over and won over everyone for what was called, old folks music. The cover of Hank Williams Sr COLD, COLD HEART is a gem. But my personal favorite is the song I'VE GOT TO SEE YOU AGAIN. Just enough smoke and sensual suggestion to get meaning across. Her follow-up album has the sophisticated IN THE MORNING. Norah Continues to plow her own little garden of quiet flowers. Easy, light, and whiskey slow. She also has a country band she plays with as a change of pace named the Little Willie's. She named them after Willie Nelson, who is her friend, and that she grew up mostly in Texas her herself. One mow thing. Ray Charles recorded an album of duets with si gers he liked before passed away. It was my Mother's favorite. Norah and Ray sind HERE WE GO AGAIN and the contrast and compliment of their their voices is beautiful. Give it a listen. Enjoy

    • @Requiemslove
      @Requiemslove 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to hear the "live" version of Cold cold heart then. To say it's another level wouldn't do it justice. I readily admit I love most of that album. The only song I could pick or leave is "feeling the same way", but it's sandwiched between Cold cold heart, and the enchanting title song, so, what chance did that have? My absolute favourite song on the entire album, from an album I have undoubtedly heard thousands of times, is "The nearness of you" that closer never get's old. It encapsulates what Norah has always been about. I will however dispute that she, Norah, is NOT just one of the best voices of the early 2000s.
      She's one of the best voices in he world, period, of ALL time. [And she is massively underrated and underappreciated]

    Nora is a phenomenal musician with a pedigree. Her father is a very famous musician from India who also happened to play on several Beatles songs. She also did a pretty incredible album with Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer of the 90’s pop/punk band Green Day). That album was remake of an entire Everly Brothers album from the late 1950’s. They LITERALLY recorded an entire album (every song) that the Everly Brothers released 50 years before called Songs Our Father Taught Us.

    Hard to believe this song is already 20 years old. Seems recent somehow, still. From the opening cords, you instantly can tell the song is going to be soft, poignant, and special, and when Jones sings the first line, a shiver runs up your back--even decades later.
    For another spectacular vocal performance, consider This Woman's Work by Kate Bush. It's an obscure song that I don't think even charted in the US, but a work of absolutely piercing beauty.

    • @Requiemslove
      @Requiemslove 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first time I heard Norah Jones sing I felt I was going to die. In truth I was ready to. I'd heard nothing before that was quite like that, and have heard nothing since that has ever truly measured up. She is something else. IMO she stands alone. I could type about her for hours on end, but I will spare you that, and just say I think she's the best. As in the greatest there has ever or will ever be, and that she is hugely underappreciated, but that probably has something to do with her philosophy and how she does things. She could have easily been a commercial mega star as some I won't mention, are, but she wouldn't be the true musician that she is, had she gone that route.
      I said I would spare you and then... my apologies. I confess when it comes to Norah I find it hard to be concise.

      I wouldn't say she was ever a "performer". She's a musician, a great one at that, who over her career has developed her stage-craft, but she's too real and honest and up-front and lacking in a desire to "put on a show" to ever be a performer. Musicality and feeling and expression, and staying true to the emotion and tone of the songs that she sings, is always fore-front with Norah Jones.

    Was lucky enough to see Norah Jones live many, many years ago when she played Massey Hall here in Toronto, she’s simply phenomenal. If Jay loves her voice so much, I think there’s another singer by the name of Sarah McLachlan he might enjoy . Take a listen to her singing “Angel”. I sure you will like her too Amber. Keep up the good work. Love you two and a Happy New Year to you and your family 💕💕🇨🇦🇨🇦

    I just love her cover of the original Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart." You should do them one after the other - the original and then Norah. Sure, Hank wrote it - but Norah owns it.

    Norah Jones is so talented. And People may not realize it if they have never seen her perform and just watch artistic videos, but the reason she is so comfortable with her songs is that she has written quite a few of them, and not only that, but when she performs, she is playing the piano. That is her, and her skill on the piano is equal to her vocal performance. So many of these are HER songs, or ones arranged by her, with her timing, her piano, and man, she is doing so much in a performance. The vocals are just her expression, they do seem to be effortless but I'm sure there is discipline involved. She, and her band, are serious musicians. And if you ever get a chance to see her in person, or a recording of a live performance, it beats a video. She's fascinating to watch, and her back story is interesting as well. If I remember she was a college student who was moonlighting playing in piano bars, and it just took off. Databyter

    She comes by her brilliance genetically. Her father is Ravi Shankar--the amazing sitar player from India, who influenced the Beatles and taught George how to play sitar. See Ravi's performance at The Monterey Pop Festival to understand his popularity.

    Beatles connection! Her father is Ravi Shankar, whom George Harrison was fascinated with. With the influence of Shankar, Harrison used a sitar on "Norwegian Wood." He also took classical Indian music lessons from Shankar.

    Norah has so much more to offer that would surprise you.
    My favorite album of hers is Little Broken Hearts.
    It’s a little bit Rock-A-Billy, a little Pop, and little Blues. A little of everything, but quite different from her early material. Kind of similar to Lana Del Rey’s album with The Black Keys “Ultraviolence.”
    She even did an album duet with Billy Joe, of Green Day.
