I live in GA around a lot of farms and hunters. Around here, we are told to carry a bat or a large walking stick to defend against loose dogs, or to carry a taser. Usually the sound of a taser will be enough to scare a dog away. I was walking my own dog, Diesel, a smallish lab/Shepherd mix, when an aggressive approached us. Of course, Diesel wants to be everyone's friend, so he submitted immediately. The other dog lunged at him and started biting his face. Diesel started screaming (have you ever heard a dog being attacked or scared? It sounds like a child)and I took my bat and started beating the snot out of that thing. It yelped and took off towards its house. In my anger, I checked my dog and made sure he was okay, and then went over to the other dog's house. I chewed out the owner and called animal control. (We have pretty strict leash laws for that very reason.) in hindsight, I was lucky. If the dog had been much bigger or sick, I could have gotten hurt. I'm investing in a taser.

I used to be a life guard at a public beach in Florida, and you are definitely not supposed to pee on ANY type of bite or injury. And vinegar (or baking soda, any base that won't cause more damage really) is only used on jellyfish stings, not stingray. A stingray sting leaves an open wound along with the poison, so it's much safer to flush the injury with fresh water, pull the barb out if possible and seek medical attention right away. Infection is also a huge risk for any type of beach/ocean injury so always make sure to use antibiotics if you're skin breaks while in contact with the water.

I believe with certain jellyfish stings you're supposed to urinate on them. White vinegar is used on box jellyfish stings I'm pretty sure. But always Google this stuff before going to a beach that could have jellyfish, lol.

+CaitieLou (Lilani) Its advised not to use vinegar on box jellyfish stings now it could cause an increase of released venom by 50%...basically you want to get the persons heart starting again since their stings kill in less than 2 minutes

    • @sipulikorva8717
      @sipulikorva8717 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+CaitieLou (Lilani) I have heard that you should not urinate on the sting or use vinegar or even fresh water, because depending on the species the venom might react with the other liquid in a way that makes the sting even worse.

Well I have a story that luckily didn't end in me getting attached, when I was 7, I had just moved to Alaska and was riding my bike to a park. I was just minding my business when a moose just came right up next to me (like an arms reach away). Everyone in the park was yelling "DONT MOVE!" But the moose was just chilling out so I wasn't scared. Then a couple minutes later it just walked away. #alaskathings

I grew up in the northern tip of Sweden where brown bears, meeses and reindeers are common to be sighted in various degrees. At the time my family lived in a very small community with nature practically on our doorstep. I remember riding my bicycle to school one morning, passing a large glade in the forest, where a huge bull moose was having his breakfast. He wasn't particularly interested in me but I ended up passing quite close to him as he stood by the road, munching on a shrub. I made record time to school that morning.

When I was 3, I was attacked by a whale. I crawled into its mouth, and it swallowed me! I survived inside it for the next 5 years, and through my knowledge of Rocky, montages my way to full strength. Now aged 8, I decided it was time to leave. I broke the whale in half, and used a pair of passing turtles to swim back to shore. I am still alive, and I go back to the place I killed the whale to worship its corpse. All hail the great flobberbeast!!

I had a dog try to attack me once, while I was out walking my own. That was scary, my dog intercepted the attack and protected me from the aggressive one which was much bigger than her and saved me. I was able to separate them and the owner of the aggressive one came to help. I'll never forget that, my dog was the best sweetest dog, wouldn't hurt a fly and she risked getting badly injured to rescue me from the attack. She lived a long happy and well loved life and passed peacefully of old age. She was an angel :)

My friend and I got attacked by bats in cave once. I was bit numerous times, and friend was as well. I quickly went to action.. I grabbed the can of bug spray out of my backpack and a lighter out of my pocket and created an impromptu flamethrower. It scared them away pretty quickly. I know what people are thinking... Why didn't you just run away. Well we did but we were pretty far into the cave system. No amount of running was getting us away from them and there were lots of them. Park ranger later told us that it was mating season and that they don't often do that but have been known to occasionally. The bites actually hurt pretty bad. Nothing too serious but of course we had to have rabies shot, and it walked away needing stitches after falling on quite a few jagged rocks trying to hurry away. Moral of the story: never not have a macgyver's worth of stuff in your bag for flamethrower sessions in caves.

+TheHiddenTiger 07 No, we got attacked. Lol park rangers and everyone who came and helped can attest to that. I've seen startled bats. They weren't swarming around us and trying to fly off they deliberately stayed on us and were biting us all over. I have scars to this day. We even made the news, and the park rangers suggested people not to go into the cave systems for awhile.

I just stopped and we stood there looking at each other for a few seconds and he leisurely turned and walked back into the woods.

I've been a summer student with Parks Canada for a few years now and the island I work on usually has quite a few black bears on it each summer. So when we start each season we're given a Fox 40 whistle and we're told to clap and talk in a loud but calm voice if we see a bear. Had a female with 3 cubs (not often that you see one with 3 cubs but they were there) at less than 20 yards in front of myself and 2 of my co workers and i just clapped my hands and they took off for the thicker woods as fast as they could go

I used to live in Montana, and most of these I had always been told not to do any of these, but with bears, you are supposed to be making a bit of noise to let the bear know you are there, because you don't want to scare them. For the mountain lions, you are supposed to not look them in the eye, and back away slowly. Do NOT run away from a lion or grizzly, because the will see you as scared prey. My mom and I once happened upon a young grizzly cub on a backpacking trip. It was far off, but an amazing experience. The scary thing though was that we never did see the mother bear.

Most dangerous thing I've ever faced was a cobra, I was a few months old. Our dog dashed in and started growling and barking. My dad runs in swings for the cobra just as the dog lunges at it. He hits the dog, don't worry it was fine. He then despatches the cobra. So in summary if you're being attacked by a cobra wait for your dad to appear wielding a cricket bat.
Other than that I was moving some wood and when I dumped one log I noticed something stripy on my shoulder. Turned out to be a tarantula. Didn't think just swatted at it twice and it sprang into the bushes.
I know I am such an action hero.

While hiking in the mountains in Tennessee with my dad, I went a little ahead of him and entered into a clearing. I saw three black bear cubs walking in the other side, and I didn't want to see mama. I immediately turned and ran back down the mountain, simply saying "Bears, three, run!" as I flew past my dad. There's your bear survival technique. Just make you get a head start on whoever you're with.

I grew up outside KC in the country. Lots of coyotes. As an adult even when confronted by a pack they will not attack. I've spent many nights outside fishing hiking and camping and found myself sorrounded by half a dozen or more. They're just curious, they sit there and hoot at each other. On the rare occasion one would approach too close and I wasn't in the mood to try and pet it, I would just growl or stomp my foot in its direction. If you have a small child or pet with you it's a different story. Don't let them linger in your vicinity. Chase them off as soon as they approach, if you get a chance give one a swift kick, it's cries will deter the rest from approaching.

While me and my dad were on our elephant a huge cheetah ran up and started biting the elephant behind us! Our amazing tour guide, Babajide (I'll never forget that name), jumped off his elephant in front, ran back and punched the cheetah in the throat, and then inside his throat until it reared back and passed out (or died). In countries where stingrays and jellyfish are commom (usually in the summer) lifeguards usually have vinegar (or how you write it) i was on a surfing trip and got touched by a jellyfish. she got all around my foot and the sting was there for months, and it was only a common jellyfish. if we had vinegar it would be much better, so i recommend when going on surfing trips make sure you have some, it really helps.

My wife worked for a museum and tells the story of a man in the early 1900's in Oklahoma who was famous for catching wolfs and coyotes live with his bare hands. He punched into their mouth and went so far that they couldn't clamp down on his hand. He was called "Catch'em Alive Jack Abernathy". There are even silent films of him doing this. So I believe the cougar one you mentioned because of this story.

Once was attacked by a Rottweiler defending another dog in heat as I was walking home in a darker part of town. I got big and growled at it but that just slowed it down. My only thought was to not take my eyes off it and start to back away. It felt that I was retreating so it started lunging towards me. As it lunged as me I would lung at it as well making it back up to regroup. So It was a 2 steps back to one forward retreat till I got back into the light and then it lost interest.

After getting stung by a stingray in South Carolina, I went to the ER because the pain truly is that bad. Essentially, the venom will break down in the heat so I just had my foot in hot water for a long time. Urine probably would help because it's warm (I've also heard of people using hot gasoline). Once the pain from the venom dissipates the swelling is still pretty bad so I actually did use vinegar soaks for like a week.

I've been stung by a stingray before; you're actually supposed to shuffle to get the stingray to go away and then put your foot in a bucket of hot water, because hot water leeches the toxins out of your foot. Some stingrays are different though, this was a relatively small one off the coast of LA.
