After the tots are done in the microwave, put them in the pan, flatten with a spatula. Cook until crispy on both sides. The bag with the state of Idaho makes the best hash browns.

"Tater Tots" is a trademark of Ore-Ida, but so many people use it as a term for anyone else's similar product that it's nigh become genericized.

In case anyone was wondering, Ore-Ida actually did invent the tater tot in 1953.
And that's why they are the only ones that can call them "tater tots" and everyone else has to call them something else!
Ore-Ida also invented "Crispers", French fries that had an extra bumpy ridge to them. Lord, I loved them too. I don't know if they exist anymore?
