I was at an estate sale where the entire contents of the house and property were being auctioned off. Up for auction was a small cloth bag with a pile of coins that were covered with dirt and such. I paid $7 for the bag full. I discovered 22 large cents with the oldest a very nice 1794 I happily discovered after soap and water cleaning. After watching your fantastic videos, I realized that these coins were dug coins and I wondered if the bag was the man's collection of large cents, he found metal detecting over the years. Then I wished I knew where he found all those coins and wondered if they were all found from one area. It is our loss for not knowing this collector and learning about his old metal detecting haunts. Just how much history do we all walk over in our travels.
Because it is so large I think it is not a rosary. Unless it was hung on a wall. Any rosaries I've seen that were used to pray the rosary have smaller crucifixes. Like You mention, it could be a crucifix worn by a priest or nun, those were larger.
Women in the 1800s frowned on having a tan. It was popular to use bonnets, parasols, and use buttermilk on their face as sunblock. Probably why there are so many parasols in the ground.
Thanks for your comment. It is so interesting to think about what we view as privelege and wealth over time, but there is the consistent idea of wealth = leisure time. In the 1800s women of leisure were priveleged enough to stay out of the sun. Today, women of wealth have the privelege of relaxing in the sun.
Wondering if you packed out the moose skull? I carried a buffalo skull two miles once. After the first half mile that buffalo skull gained a bunch of weight! By the time I got it back to the truck? I think my arms stretched two feet longer! I was a young man in those days. Wish I'd never had sold it! But, young and dumb.
I love the plants you show. I grew up in the Appalachian hills of East Tennessee. As kids we didn't have toys so we played in the hills. You're videos bring back memories. The cross is awesome! Thank You for taking me with you!

At the time of the Revolutionary war, less than 1% of the population was Catholic. At the time of the war of northern aggression, it was less than 5%. Not saying it's impossible, but it's less likely during a time when this country hadn't surrendered to the papacy like it has today.

Making these long treks into the backcountry, have you ever considered backpacing in a ultralight tent and gear...maybe some footage around a small fire, going over the finds of the day while enjoying some fresh brewed campfire coffee? Then, get up the next morning and swinging some more?

Happy Friday everyone! Another great video! Amazing finds from out in the middle of nowhere. Love the moose skull! Brad, love how you make possible stories to go with the items! ❤
Good Morning Brad, this place seems to have a special feel to it; and it felt that there'd not been many people roaming back in there. Did you feel that too?.. The moss covering the rocks at the spring was so beautiful.. Thank you for sharing
Hello Brad. I have watched a ton of your videos way back from the beginning of your channel. I have never commented on any until now. I will say you sir put out the best detecting videos on TH-cam. From the way you explain things to just the way you carry yourself. The music is wonderful, just the overall way you do your videos is absolutely great. I look forward to every Friday to see what you find next. God Bless you and your family
Awesome finds and video, the cross was my favorite. Wondering if maybe from a priest. I would love to detect with you one day, such a story teller and your finds just are very cool.
Every Friday morning like clockwork. I always look forward to your videos. That crucifix was an amazing find. Very special. Thanks for the work you put into creating your content.
I grew up on an old farm in the woods of Rhode Island, back in the early 50s, had burn barrel. We also had our own dump for glass and metals.oh how i wish i had some of the old glass jars bottles. Your videos always bring to life back in the good old days. Thank you .❤️

I've been watching this Turkish metal detecting channel, deniz something, and he has a device that detects precious metals. He uses that to steer him towards an area then uses his metal detector to zero in. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. The translation calls it a field scanner but I'm sure that's not what we would call it. They find gold ancient crucifixes and other ancient gold and and silver that's been hidden (plastered) into what looks like ordinary rock outcroppings. Most are rocks plastered together so come apart easily. Stuff from ottoman empire, Egyptian, Roman, Greek. It's crazy. Y'all are the only 2 channels I watch. You should check it out and see if you know what device he uses. He posts every other day at least.
Hey Brad, I am on a cruise in the Mediterranean and have been isolated to my stateroom for 5 days with Covid. I could not wait until today for your vid to drop. Thanks for the great show and a little respite from my situation.

I thought same thing. To big for necklace.
@@RichardTClark396 I have seen some large crosses worn around the necks of nuns and priests thought. Or around the waist like a belt.

Also probably a fashion accessory as well. A parasol to match every outfit, maybe?
Many women used Arsenic to keep their skin white as well, but I'd rather deal with a light tan than to poison myself!!!!! 😱
Only poor women who worked the fields had tans...the higher up you were in social levels, the paler you had to be!
White skin was definitely a sign of an upperclass woman.

Nice bunch of finds! Maybe a short of that Crotal Bell all cleaned up?
Really nice find !
I think it was part of a rosary, considering the level of detail. It's a little big for everyday wear.
I was thinking that also part of a Rosary
It also looked as though the ring that held it on to the rosary was slightly sprung. It could have just fallen off and not been noticed.
