Honestly surprised that you didn’t trim the corners off with 45° cuts prior to placing the block on your lathe. Scraps could become components of a future project. Thank you, this is more suitable for display only, although for water it doesn't leak but I don't use it for wine and I also don't sell it

They sell a food safe epoxy. You can also use food grade shellac. There’s many recipes too for mixing your own with bees wax and mineral oil
