    Me as a Portuguese born and bred, every single dish you just showed I can categorically say I would say you got it bang on. I’m from the Algarve so we love our sardines, cataplana , and the piri chicken aka frango no churrasco .

      Oh good and thank you.. It really does go to show that you can't please everyone but some people do agree.. Again, because the food is clearly amazing and such a vast selection, some people will think I've missed things out / got it wrong with a small list.. Thanks again

    piri piri chicked is far away from being the portuguese cousine king, but is very tasty. Personally I love caldeirada and carne de porco à Alentejana, and many Bacalao dishes.

      Thank you for your input and yeah, it is certainly tasty. As with all lists, whether they are the music charts or a list of foods on TH-cam, they're all subjective and we'd never all agree on what should be included, let a lone the order. You've got me thinking though, about how much the list would vary If I was from a different country or was a different age etc because I feel that Piri Piri would probably be the most iconic Portuguese dish my friends would name if asked, but people from different parts of the world would have had different experiences or exposure to the cuisine of Portugal i suppose and would therefore have a different list in mind.. I just looked up the other dishes you mentioned and they look delicious too, (maybe for another video) but as i say in the video the 10 items are just a small selection of a huge variety of Portuguese cuisine.
      Thanks again (& don't forget to subscribe! :) )

    Oh God! I am Portuguese and I really feel that this vídeo does no justice to the variety of dishes that the Portuguese cusine offers. "Francesinha" is Portuguese all right, but I would not considero it a typical portuguese dish. "Bacalhau com todos" (Cod fish with potatoes and vegetables) is a typical Christmas treat as is boiled octupus in some regions of Portugal.
    Please, don't aknowledge what most tourists eat when they come to Portugal as the staple of Portuguese cusine.
    Portuguese cusine is a lot richer and region specific than your vídeo states. I would be willing to bet that most portuguese people would not consider "Piri Piri chicken" as a staple of Portuguese cusine. For the most of US, it is the Portuguese equivalent of "fast food". Try "cozido à portuguesa", "arroz de marisco", "leitão assado da Bairrada", "polvo à lagarteira", "carne à alentejana", "açorda de marisco", "sardinhas na brasa", and so many, many more dishes that I coukd recommend and you would be closer to the variety of Portuguese culinary, which is understated, to say the least. I am pretty sure that other people will offer a plethora of other dishes..... Portugal is a small country with a huge culinary tradition that is both national and regional.

      Thank you for your long and very comprehensive message.. While I appreciate all of what you say, it really does show show how good the cuisine of your amazing nation really is.. These lists are mainly for non natives (not to say natives like your good self can't watch and have your say, of course, as you have) and an intro for an outsider. It's a little taster of what someone could expect if they visit your country if they're just passing through or on holiday.. Those more adventurous or more into their food will already know I'm simply scratching the surface and will do more research no doubt, and maybe read these comments where people like you are suggesting other delicious things to try (so thank you) .. I really do understand what you're saying, I just felt the listed items covered a lot of bases with regards to a variety / selection of foods a visitor could try.. And pleasing everyone is never possible - you are clearly knowledgeable and passionate but if you chose a top 10 I guarantee that you wouldn't please everyone, even your fellow Portuguese people.. As I've said to some other comments, I may revisit Portuguese cuisine in another video at some point so may use your knowledge in that. Thanks again HH

    Hello. Nice video with some of our best meals. I would like to say that in my opinion the king of our dishes, despite being one of the easiest to make and because of it low price is "bitoque". Also because it is present in every restaurante in portugal and maybe the most asked one along with a simple sandwich that we call "bifana".
    After that two simple "fast" dishes i can say that you should include more 4 dishes that represent our food culture:
    - Polvo à Lagareiro
    - Carne de Porco à Alentejana
    - Arroz de Pato
    - Pataniscas de Bacalhau
    Cheers!

      Thanks for your input and yes, maybe both Bifana & Bitoque should be on there.. A few people have now suggested additions to the list so I may well do a second Portuguese food video at some point and add these in.. Might even be a good excuse to pop over to Portugal to try them all.. Thanks HH

      We found a place called clams and gin. Hilarious. 6-8 kinds of artisan gins and clams a dozen ways: including curry. All served in a galvanized bucket. Even the French fries were amazing

    Tasty but not the most iconic. As for the squeezed lemon on the sardines I can only say: HERESY! Olive oil if you are having them on a plate with boiled potatoes and grilled bell peppers or nothing but it's own juices if you are eating them on the go, on top of a slice of bread (corn or corn/rye).

    Piri piri chicken the king of Portuguese food! Not too sure about that! It was brought to Portugal from ex-colonisers from Mozambique in the 70’s !

      I am aware of the origin or Piri Piri (having seen the blurb from a well known Piri Piri restaurant). But my lists are simply what some may think of with regards to a nation's food, without too much analysis. What would food be if it wasn't a melange, fusion or melting pot (excuse the pun) of different cuisines? It's the mix that makes it so great, surely..?

      'Nothing' is probably a bit harsh, little is probably closer to the truth.. As I always say to any comments such as yours, these lists are subjective, meant to be a bit of fun, are certainly not meant to offend anyone and are from a non native. The fact that some people question an item(s) position on the list or even their inclusion shows how varied and amazing Portuguese cuisine is.. I may revisit cuisine of certain countries in later videos, Portugal I think may be one of these, so name a few dishes you love (or your top 10) and I'll have a look at these.. Thank you

      FFS. Not even a shot of an actual cataplana cooker. And ç is pronounced as an "s" not "c"

      Hi,
      Thank you for your feedback and for bringing up the mispronunciation (every day is a learning day). I apologise for the oversight and I did not want or intend to offend anyone. I strive to be diligent with pronunciation (and accuracy, in general), but as someone not fluent in every language, mistakes can happen. My videos are intended for entertainment / fun and if they can be educational too, then that's a bonus, and I truly appreciate your feedback to help improve them. I'll make sure to remember your points for future videos. Thanks again for your understanding and have a great day...
      Best regards,
      Hungry Horizons

      It wasn't that bad
      There is a english youtuber here in Portugal and when he speaks about towns I only understand which town he is talking about because he puts the name in the title. Sometimes I think he is pulling our leg because some times it's really impossible to guess

    • @Hungryhorizons2023
      @Hungryhorizons2023  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obrigado. At least he tries to cover all bases by having the necessary words written down too, I suppose. I am trying to make the pronunciations as good as possible in every video but it's inevitable that i get some wrong from time to time and if people correct me that's fine, if I can learn something new, great! I am only making videos (at the moment) on places I've been to so at least i have a little bit of starter knowledge.
      Thanks again for your input and feel free to subscribe, if you wish.

    I applaud your showcasing these amazing dishes! However, I implore you next time to TRY for your pronunciation of the names of the dishes to come even remotely close to the proper name! Listening to your butchered pronunciation was like listening to fingernails on a blackboard! You do not have to spend time learning the language, just simply ask how a name is pronounced! Simple!!

    • @Hungryhorizons2023
      @Hungryhorizons2023  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you and point taken on board re pronunciation... I do / did actually check some words online (this video and others), and one someone else picked up on but I was misinformed (used a site where you simply write the word and it supposedly reads out the correct pronunciation but it's quite obviously wrong in some cases) My apologies, i don't mean to cause offence and will try to be more diligent in future, although wish me luck with the lesser spoken languages...
