I can appreciate Alien 3, but it just makes me think, "Ripley deserved better". Nothing good happened to her the rest of her life since the chestburster appeared in the first movie. I like a lot of the stylistic choices in 3, but it's just a bummer from the get-go.
Agreed. I never agreed with how the lore went. The resurrection cannon would have been way easier to accept and appreciate if OG Ripley got a somewhat decent sendoff in three

Amazing Tony, well done on committing to the bit, what a year long set up for a joke! Still a great review and can't wait to see the Assembly Cut review now - which I don't know if I am an alone weirdo for this, or because it was the first Alien movie I ever saw and had 0 expectations, but Alien 3 is my favourite, and I don't think gets enough credit for just how good the acting is. When I saw the other ones I could see its flaws, but then I saw how the Assembly Cut sorted out a lot of the issuers and it was back to my favourite one again. I have to admit. I did like alien 3. It was the first time seeing an ‘alien’ film in theatre. Yes it may be a mess. But I liked it and thought it was pretty, pretty, pretty….pretty good. 🤘🏽⚡️🤘🏽
I like the first half of the movie. It's really bleak and goes back to its horror roots, unlike the sequel. Sadly, I always find myself getting uninterested in the film around the last third or so. In general, I can see why a lot of people dislike Alien 3 as it is something of a mixed bag. However, I don't really get why this has become one of those "what could have been" movies. People always praise some of the unused scripts for this film, like the space monastery one or whatever it was, as if they would have been much better choices. Most of those scripts I've seen are equally stupid or even worse than the one they went with.
Same here I was 12 when I saw this in theatre and tbh it took my innocence away a bit 😅. Bleak af tone and everyone including the hero dying was entirely new to me so this film made an impression on me 💯
Crazy enough, I've seen quite a lot of people claim that Alien Resurrection is better than 3. The world we live in! The assembly cut only improves some minor details about the film. It's better, but it doesn't save the film.
Dang, even before that awesome intro with everybody I was kinda expecting a similar to that amount of people for the review. Even way lesser movie reviews in the Hack the Movies review catalogue have had 3 hosts at least. This whole alien 3 buildup was kind’ve a letdown Tony, and I love you guys I’ve watched every episode
The whole point was to build it up and then disappoint you. Just like in Alien 3. The fans all wanted their favorite characters to come back, but all we got was the lead and bald prisoners.
I actually enjoy Alien 3 a lot. Ripley's relationship with the doctor is interesting and Charles Dutton puts in an amazing performance. Changing up the alien was a unique choice and the ending was epic. Placing Ripley in a prison is rather inspired because who are we rooting for? If the alien wins, everything goes to s***, but all the prisoners are horrible people, so it's a moral dilemma.
New to you're channel but damn do I love it . Been catching up the last few days. The take you and you're guest had on The Thing was perfect . Never thought I could watch long segments of other people's opinions on movies.
Kieran: "I promise not to make any furious masturbation jokes in this episode". Tony: "So the escape pod crash lands on Fury 161" Kieran: "...goddamit" In seriousness, Kieran's probably my favourite of the Hack the Movies guests. He just seems down to earth and funny.
I always assumed that she burn the bodies because she didn't want the company to get ahold of them. Just in case there was something that the company could use for alien design. I was also frustrated at the time because just before the movie came out, there were novelizations on what was projected to be the story. It was called Earth Hive, and it would involve Ripley Newt and Hicks being woken up in Earth orbit. While they were sleeping, and adrift in space, the colonists had managed to send a sample back before they were overwhelmed. The corporation had been experimenting with it and it had got loose, and the entire Earth was in shambles with people scrambling to get off the planet and stop the aliens from overtaking it.
I like that you made the first review a troll lol. Hype it up exactly like they did for alien 3 and then release an episode with a bald guy no one knows haha. Excellent.
People always have a problem with the egg. Like “How’s a creature we only just discovered existed lay an egg after removing their Ovopositor? It’s an immutable law that the alien Queen egg layer couldn’t possibly lay extra eggs after losing her ovipositor.” Yet some people like egg morphing which is dumb.
Always liked it. Assembly Cut is great too. Most people were expecting Aliens 2. The production was a mess and starting a movie without a script was a mistake on many levels. Fincher made the most of it but I wish we could have seen more of his vision on screen. Theres so much material left on the cutting floor and even stuff they never filmed. Shame.

Someone should try playing a drinking game while watching these. Everytime Tony says "uhhh", you take a shot or sip of your beer. I think you'll be completely annihilated half way through.
Add one more death on Tony's conscious, my buddy just tried to play your drinking game and died to alcohol poisoning. How does Tony not feel any remorse for the death of his friends and the marvel deathpile!?
Love the opening. I am one of those people who can't forgive this movie (either cut, despite some good stuff) for killing every survivor of the previous one. That's almost as bad as if they did sequels to the Star Wars movies, where they bring back the Empire and the Sith, making their victory meaningless then ruin the relationship of Han and Leia and kill them all.
Yep that's the problem new trilogy, they just rehash and repeat original trilogy but make it somehow worse. Worse of all they push aside some actually good original ideas like Finn being a Stormtrooper that go on good side and maybe is Force sensitive ( seriously he should be main character, he at least would have original story).

A positive aspect is we get a new Alien to Runner so getting more to the lore and keeping it fresh is an upside. The music was well is very good. I dont want to drone on to much but to collect my thoughts the character development of Ripley is really what is to be praised here, we see Ripley as your everyday worker being a space trucker that is thrust into an extreme situation and survives doing all she can to defeat the Alien and hendering the companies plans, in Aliens we see Ripley sit to her convictions and lend a hand to destroy the Xenomorphs once and for all, she wins out the day but this is where the beauty of Alien 3 kicks in and while it could have been put together better I again do think it's really not that horrible. In Alien 3 we see Ripley have everything ripped from here and she accepts the this Alien will never let her have peace and that the company will never learn from its past mistakes. She makes the ultimate sacrifice for humanity taking out the last surviving Alien and taking the company down a peg. The ending with her sacrifice gets me teary eyed and the music brings it all together. I'm actually a fan of the theatrical cut. In the assembly cut we do see a queen facehugger which explains why were are two embryos in Alien 3 but the editing of Ripleys sacrifice is different and it doesnt hit the same as the theatrical cut. I am a bit of an Alien 3 apologist I'll admit I could have been better but the character development Ripley ends up having in Alien 3 really makes for a decent trilogy if that's where you wanna end it.
