@@marqueskitchen1765 not necessarily. The tights over boots make your feet look goofy, cartoonish, the opposite of graceful and light. And the tight mid boots look even worse, it looks unfinished, rushed. And it ruins the illusion. Skaters should embrace their short legs, having long lines is not the only way to look graceful.
@luvl1344 did you verify the protocol of Fumie Suguri? her spin level was very low compared to other competitors. She had to improve her spin and step level based on the level up standard like Arakawa. (Arakawa is the only one who received the All Level 4 about spins and Level 3 about step. and Sasha's spin was very great compared to Suguri and that's why she got the silver medal even though she fell down 2times

She only made two mistakes and had a harder free program than Elena. So no she would’ve beaten Elena regardless. And also although Elena skated fast and powerfully, none of her jumps were executed very well in terms of entries and landing. She was a bit wobbly throughout whereas the jumps that Sasha did land were landed with beautiful form which gave her higher GOE.
Crazy that both the 1998 and 2002 olympics were so far more advanced, technically, than the skaters at this Olympics. 2006 felt like a big step backwards, technically--Arakawa would have probably gotten a bronze medal with this performance if it were 98 or 2002.
1998 and 2002 were not more advanced technically. The new scoring system greatly increased the complexity of the non-jump elements, it was a big change that required a ton of work for the skaters to adapt to in a short time, having to learn all kinds of new spin positions and spirals and footwork. 3-jump combo also becoming "mandatory" in the new system was another difficulty.
If they had the same judging as 2006 in 2002 , Hughes would have been downgraded for sure on both combos and Kwan downgraded in her SP. Also once the scoring system changed it really favored Slutskaya due to her speed and and Cohen because she always did spin variations and both were flexible. Compared to 98 yeah the jumping was better but the spins and footwork maybe higher quality but easier.

当時、TVで観ていて、金、すごい！と思うと同時に、転んだらダメなんだな、どんなにスピードあっても上手くても、と思った私。でも、今観てわかった。転んでないだけじゃない。荒川さんは、どこを切り取っても綺麗。きたない動き、つなぎのドタバタした美しくない部分が一つもない。これは、他の選手と明らかに違う。段違いに頭飛び抜けた演技。何回も観たい、素敵な演技でした。
ジャンプ以外の要素、基本が兎に角別格。このシーズンの全日本の荒川静香選手のエキシビションをみて、長年のフィギュア観戦仲間と涙しました。あまりに美しく、ユーレイズミーの曲ぴったりの演技で、心に染みたから。綺麗なエッジワーク=一漕ぎがスーッと音無く伸びのある一歩、画面ではゆったりとして見えても、実はスピードも距離もあり、漕ぎ漕ぎしなくてもスピードもでており、たおやかでエレガント。スパイラルもスピンもステップも、同様に全くブレなく、氷にのってて雑音がない滑り。クラシックで優雅な曲、シニアならではのレディースフィギュア、まさしくエレガントな滑り。雲の上を滑ってるように感じた佐藤ゆかさんも、浅田真央さんも、そうでした。

She may not have fallen but she did double that triple flip. Had she nailed it it would have been a lot closer.
