I pour Liquid Nitrogen, Diethyl Ether, and Dry Ice into my pool! Can liquid nitrogen put out a fire? what about dry ice?
Diethyl ether is one of the most flammable solvents around!

@Ryan Hughes I have mentioned this in other comments, but it's perfectly safe to do so, doesn't even feel all that cold. Handling dry ice is more dangerous, but as long as you don't hold onto it for more than a few seconds, nothing will happen.
Not all that hard as long as you keep the dry ice moving and minimize contact with your hands. I've done it before. Now I want some dry ice to make soda

I work in a medical clinic, and we occasionally get medicine packed in dry ice to keep it cold. I had a coworker pick up a piece of dry ice and hold it for a minute before quickly putting it down and going "It burns!", and I was like 'yeah, you think?'

It's more a matter of the camera was poised in the direction to capture both the fire and him on record. But the fire is so hot that it's picking up the fire and nothing else, I imagine.

Diethylether has a high vapor pressure. There won't be anything left after a couple of hours. The pool might be carbonated, but that will be fine after letting it sit for a couple of days.

+Ryan King No, like he said, the dry ice creates a blanket of carbon dioxide above the water. If you were to swim in it, you would suffocate from carbon dioxide on the surface of the pool.
+TheBackyardScientist but wouldn't the Nitrogen/Carbon Dioxide layer displace the oxygen over the pool? Especially if it's not well ventilated. You could avoid that by using liquid oxygen, though I'd avoid setting the pool on fire with Diethyl Ether.

air is 70% nitrogen and compressing it into a liquid is a fairly easy process. Industrial supply stores and universities are number 1 places to get liquid nitrogen, though you do need vacuum flasks and special gloves to handle it safely. *Don't* handle it like Backyard Scientist did in the video, you can't rely on the leidenfrost effect to protect yourself from getting frostbite.

One of the fun parts of my job as a Well Control (Blowout) firefighter is getting to play with tanker loads of Liquid Nitrogen to freeze live oil and gas wells.
Something that we will absolutely never, ever do is put Liquid N2 in any plastic or other flammable container because of the fractional distillation of oxygen.
This concept is also why we are very hesitant to use LN2 for any firefighting purposes. I've seen areas become oxygen enriched due to Liquid Oxygen condensation and subsequent evaporation when we have had lines in low lying areas.
All that aside... it looked seriously cool.
That's interesting I never knew firefighters do used liquid nitrogen for that purpose, I understand the risk about oxygen concentrating, but I understand that only happens after an extended duration.
Something you should never do, or at least make a video about, is mixing grease or oil with pure oxygen. With aircraft, we have to be very careful about what tools and hoses come into contact with oxygen systems. I've heard of a USAF pilot that received severe burns because they were wearing chapstick when they put on their oxygen mask.
***** Having learned well control from some of the guys who fought the Kuwait well fires, I've learned a lot of interesting uses for things and some unconventional techniques.
Our freeze techniques are used when we need to create a plug in order to open a pipeline or oil/gas well. This is done in times where valves have failed or other secondary well control measures have failed. It can only be done if we have some form of control (sometimes as simple as a pump forcing counterpressure against downhole pressures or one good valve).
My current "record" for most pressure behind an ice plug is 4500psi (11" bore well casing). It is a very effective and surprisingly quick and easy method to plug a well or pipe.
If you wanted some fun with both LN2 and high pressure, if you place a frost plug and then apply high heat to the outside, you will create quite the little ice rocket. We may occasionally have fun testing these sorts of things with compressed air/nitrogen...

See...I was thinking that the entire time...HOW did His fingers not freaking STICK frozen to the canister? My only guess, is that it is ridiculously hot outside which provided SOME sort of "hot breeze blanket" for His hands during that period of time...It STILL doesn't seem like it's enough...And yet; however...He shows not even the SLIGHTEST discomfort, in fact - Quite the opposite!
