@@Danleesixoneonetwofive i answer your question,saying that Pelé was very complete,his ability, power and intelligence were expresed in the following: he used both legs to dribble and hit the ball,he played all over the field,he was a wanderfull header ,he scored goals from anywhere and also with his back to the goal. Messi and Maradona have only used their left leg,in the arial game they hardly act,in the área they were much less efficient than Pelé and both played in certain areas of the field. I'm Argentine but i can't stop seeing the reality,Pelé is the best. Thank you for your message and sorry for my English.

@@Danleesixoneonetwofivein those years the game strategies were very different, the forwards played closer to each other,the Balls weighed more than the current one (now 436 grams), the first synthetic Ball appeared in 1986,the playing fields were very irregular,the yellow cards appeared in 1970, therefore the forwards were very beaten and injured and the football boots did not allow sensitivity. All this defines a more complex and harsh enviroment and in this context I say that M and M can't be compared because they don't have Pele's abilities and skills even with all difficulties of the time. We know that the press does big business with these things.

The ball has always weighed the same it’s a regulation, if it was so heavy they wouldn’t have been able to kick it.
The boots he wore are not like the ones from the 1920’s & 30’s era massive clunky things, the ones Pele wore were quite modern.
Like the one’s he wore at the 1970 World Cup and got payed a fortune by Puma to wear.
Conveniently tying his laces as the cameras panned over to him during the game.
And the pitches, well there have always been terrible pitches in every era of football 70’s 80’s 90’s even up until the 2000’s.

The ''overrated'' arguments are never based on objective logic and measurable criteria. I would rather say they simply don't want this person called Pele to be associated with the kind of records attributed to him. Before now, a number of reasons were given as to why Pele wasn't good enough, assuming he couldn't have sailed through them. And then, records have kept emerging from the very little that have survived to prove in his favour. The next thing has always been to shift the goal post.
So I don't personally think it's something any debate can change. Simply change Pele's face and put the ''right'' kind of face upon his resume' and a huge chunk of the disapproval will disappear. To be more dramatic, you could try replacing it with their favourite players and watch out for the 180 degrees turn in their arguments. In this case, there will be no need for videos as the written records alone will be more than enough.

1. He could score with either leg. He scored over 1,000 goals, goals of all types, colors and shapes. From outside the box, inside the box, volleys, scissor kicks, diving headers, soft, hard, over the goalie's reach, upper corner, lower corner. You think of it, he did it.
2. He was excepcional with headers. He would usually out jump taller defenders. He was like a fish in midair, able to get higher once he jumped. Observe carefully his header-goal against Italy in the finals of the World Cup México 1970.
3. Physically, he was impecable. Strong, fast, quick, powerful, with remarkable endurance.
4. Technically, Pelé was masterful. His control was awe inspiring. Pelé made it look easy, natural, joyous. He could dribble past a cloud of defenders like a hot knife through butter.
5. Tactically, Pelé had no flaws. He would move knowingly on the field, commanding his teammates, understanding where they would be, occupying spaces, opening the game as needed. Watch him control and blindingly pass the ball to Carlos Alberto for Brazil's fourth goal in the final against Italy in the World Cup México 1970. Simply delicious!
6. He was courageous. Most of the time, when he stepped on the field, Pelé was a marked man. Teams would have their top defender shadow him constantly. He played most of his career without the benefit of the disciplinary cards, they were instituted in 1970, Pelé's last World Cup. The referee's "culture" of the time, allow for much more rough play. Pelé learn to defend himself against tough defenders and never backed down.
7. Pelé played on fields that were not the best by today's standards. The ball would bounce here an there, responding to the unevenness and holes on the field. It was much more difficult to make a good pass, much more difficult to control the ball and yet, Pelé shone with the light of a genius.
8. Pelé won many national titles, international titles and the World Cup three times. He is still today the youngest player to play in a World Cup final (17 years old at Sweden 1958) and score (two goals).
9. Finally, Pelé was FIFA's best ambassador of the game. An example for the youth of the future and most decent human being. And who could beat that smile?
I saw him score the most remarkable goal I have ever witnessed...
Lima was all up in a buzz as the news spread like wild fire about the arrival of Santos of Brazil with Pelé. Santos was going to play against Alianza Lima the Peruvian champion. The excitement increased as Alianza announced the hiring of an Uruguayan defender named Souza just for the match. Souza's job, of course, was to shadow Pelé all game long. Alianza paid Souza the enormous amount (in those days) of $500 dollars just for the one game, all other expenses (travel, stay, etc.) covered. It was summer, so the game was going to be played at night at the "Estadio Nacional." As the game progressed, Souza, a tall, black, strong and agile player was doing a very good job of shadowing Pelé. Souza, being from Uruguay, was schooled in the ways and manners of their style of play. That is, all nonsense and as rough as the referee would allow and more.
It was almost half time, Pelé was next to the touch line near midfield watching his goalie kick the ball long and high. As the ball fell towards him, Pelé smoothly chess trapped it and allow it to roll down onto the field in front of him. Souza jumped on the ball but Pelé was first. With his back towards Souza, Pelé heeled the short bounce of the ball over Souza's head. Fast as lightening, Pelé turned around, his eyes riveted on the ball as it was falling down passed Souza. He quickly realized that Villanueva, Alianza's goalkeeper, about forty meters away, was way out of his line. In a flash, Pelé volley the ball. It described a laser like parabola over the surprised humanity of Villanueva and into the back of the net! It was magnificent! Extraordinary! Amazing! An instant hush fell all over the stadium, as if all those human minds needed time to really process and accept was they had just witnessed. And then, then, everybody stood up and applauded and applauded and applauded. I still can hear them.
Father, may you rest in peace, thank you for taking me that night to the stadium. Your loving son, always.

I know you all love Pelé, that you are romantic and sentimental about that. But guyz, be a bit serious and pragmatic. I play football since early 90's and I've been a modest coach who has a real and strong passion for this sport: football in this era is not comparable with modern football. They will all take 8-0 nowadays. No tactical organisatio'n, slow game, defensive players are so bad...
And I don't talk about skills and physical condition. It's really not the same sport..

Pele was an incredible Player and one of the Greatest of All Time but not THE Greatest of all Time. Why?
a) While he claims he has won 3 world cups with Brazil, he actually won 2; only 1958 and 1970. He was injured and missed the majority of the 1962 world cup, and so, due to this, the real hero of that world cup was Garrincha, along with Vavá as well.
b) Another one of his claims to fame is the fact that he scored 1283 goals. However, 526 of these goals he scored were friendlies and tour games. Hence, the number of official goals he scored is 757 goals.
c) In all 3 world cups, he played alongside legendary players. In 1958, there was Didi, Garrincha, Djalma Santos, and Nilton Santos. In 1962, there was Garrincha, both the Santos full-backs, as well as Vavá. Finally, in 1970, there was Gerson, Rivellino, Jairzinho, and Carlos Alberto. Hence, he had it easier compared to someone like Maradona, who almost single handedly won the 1986 world cup.

Pelé is the best of all time, not just because of his achievements and the difficulties of playing at that time. He traveled all over the world just because of his talent, stopping a war so that they could see him play, and was offered a partnership with the FIAT brand in order to sign him.
He was the most complete player of all time (he even came back to defend) and the 1970 World Cup proves it.
There are so many facts (including Maradona saying several times that Pelé was the best of all time).
