Exactly!!! As an art major and an artist, I understand the concept of inspiration vs. stealing and James definitely stole this idea. He even admitted to it in messages to Ethan and said he also stole from Nike.
James literally said in the DM it could have been copied completely but it’s okay bc he thinks their fanbases don’t overlap. I think it’s ridiculous for him to act like doing what he did with his merch wasn’t wrong but also get upset when Wet N Wild duped his palette, which by the way, it was just a rainbow palette with a mediocre formula, not too unique imo (although, I understand why he was upset, I just think he should understand that Ethan and Hila feel the same way)

I know color blocking is a popular thing nowadays, but I really did think that James’s sweater was copying the other one. The colors were the exact same in the exact same orientation, just slightly more saturated. Literally the only other difference was the yellow patch on the pocket. Even the cuff was the same color

Teddy Fresh is a company made by H3H3, youtubers that have been making videos for years. They said they know they didn’t create color blocking and this wouldn’t have bothered them if James DIDNT copy the exact same colors and placements of colors. Literally the exact same colors in the exact same placements. He definitely knocked them off then was rude towards them claiming to not know about them....
Exactly. They are a different realm of youtube famous. But they are relevant. Teddy Fresh has been Hila's baby for years. H3 does not mess around. They win a fair amount of lawsuits. So they are not people you want to mess with. Ethan has been a bit much this past year. But Teddy Fresh isn't just some small company.

I've always been fairly disconnected from the beauty community until the last year or so, but I've noticed that different art communities go through the exact same ebbs and flows. It's an interesting/bizarre phenomenon to watch across multiple groups.

James 100% stole that design from Teddy Fresh. I think people are missing the point, like it’s not the colour blocking that’s the issue, it’s the fact that the colour palette and the placement of those colours are in the EXACT same spots - down to the draw strings and cuffs! All he did was water down the colour palette. Like tbh he really couldn’t have taken 10 mins to come up with a new colour palette?? There are sites that generate colour palettes for FREE, it’s not that hard?? 🤦🏻♀️
These creators really don’t care about artistic integrity (or any sort of integrity for that matter) and it shows.
Ethan is extremely racist and his wife supports his tactics . He’s friends with Trisha , and there’s numerous clips of him saying the n word on his podcast and other very derogatory things . I genuinely don’t feel bad even IF James really did steal his design .
margijuana I think it’s not about feeling bad for Ethan or Hila, it’s how James has a pattern of stealing shit from others and being a complete hypocrite when he calls out others or tries to gatekeep the makeup industry. I think this is an issue of being fair, working with integrity and transparency, and the fact that James has never taken accountability for stealing shit (like that time when he stole that anthem composition by that group of women). If he does it with a famous company/person, he can do it (and has done it) to a non famous one.

You are allowed to not care about James stealing from them, but James has showed he isn’t going to stop at any point on stealing other people’s work. I think this situation just helps to enlighten that James has a pattern of stealing from anyone (in a bigger scale since TF is more famous than others James has stolen from), profit from it, and at the end, come off as a hypocrite for whining about others doing the same to him.
Edit: and I’m talking about integrity and transparency since James is proud of being “professional” with his brand; if his brand would be about stealing, then everyone would consider his brand the same as Zaful, but he’s all about “doing things right” (a reason why he *loves* to call out every brand he considers “fishy”) so he is gonna be even more criticized.
