But somewhere along the middle of the pandemic, I lost my shit. I'm a full-time teacher now, but before the pandemic, while I was still in school, I worked at a daycare - a job that I, and many of my co-workers, lost once the pandemic hit because they couldn't afford to keep us on. That experience of losing a job coupled with watching fellow teachers start working during a pandemic and now being in that situation myself, my tolerance level for hearing a comment like - "Governments don't need to put that much funding in schools, how many teachers do we really need?" - was incredibly low. And the thing is, I don't think my cousin was joking when she said that. Imagine having the knowledge to save someone's life, yet not having a single clue as to what the world around you is like. I may have gotten a teaching degree, but it was still through an Intercultural Relations program. Honestly, it's like you said - just take the damn sociology course as an upper liberal and go beyond your little bubbles.
You know what's funny? If you scroll the comments you can literally see people doing the opposite, pretending like sciences/medicine are just memorizing a bunch of stuff that you could very well just google up, that bubble that you mention at the end exists for every field because people don't really understand what other people do, because they have never been in another field

With the gifted programme discourse, I think it's important to recognise the link between being "gifted" and neurodivergence and the fact that it tends to slip through the cracks, leading to late diagnosis. From personal experience, this is something that happened to me and I have friends and family members that experienced the same. At 21, I've come to terms with that I won't pick up things as easily as a child and I did "fall behind" (tbh I'm still doing well enough, just not at the ridiculously high standards expected of me as a child). However, I don't think I would've been able to without the knowledge of my ADHD and realising that is why I struggle with studying, university etc. Since then, I have been able to adapt and let go of the "gifted" label.
THE GIFTED KID PROGRAM Ask anyone who was a gifted kid, it’s not just the extra books, it’s the constant telling of kids their better than their peers, treating them differently, I literally got on a bus to a go to a different school when I was 9 (4th) for a block of time to learn from the gifted teacher with a small group of peers, and then we’d come back outta nowhere to regular class. I’m 19 turning 20 this month, so this is like 2011 for reference. It only gets worse from here, you’re the smart one in your class and that’s becomes your whole identity since you’re very young and don’t know yourself that well/have a fleshed out personality and then you have to compete with the other smart kids to be number one. High school is worst of all, there are now tonssssss of other smart kids, so there’s definitely someone smarter/better than you, do you break your neck to be the best? Or do you now have to learn to deal with failure? The expectations of your parents to get straight As and be perfect is also a looming issue and you’re expected to be naturally great at everything so failure is basically a crippling fear. Your future is now at stake, being valedictorian, and tons of other higher level classes/or extracurriculars you’re expected to be in and if you can’t handle it, then what kinda of gifted kid are you? You also rarely have to study since early intelligence is usually memory based, so college can be a veryyyy rude awakening. EDIT: This experience becomes significantly harder if you are black, because you will be placed in classes that are completely full of white people or non black people and will be the ONLY one or one of very FEW in the room, and will be looked down upon or treated differently subconsciously OR consciously.
Idk about the "Gifted Kid Program" but speaking as someone who had the highest grades in every class since kindergarten(despite significant family trauma and upheaval at that)...I'm fine. lololol And I LOVED school. :)
@@jenme2390 that’s great! I’m glad you enjoyed it❤️ I on the other hand, hated going to school even though I did really well😭 and many people around my age agree it gave them lots of anxiety and left them with other issues.
@@cheribellosom530 K. Well, I'm sorry to hear that it was so rough for you all. Just wanted to chime in because that's not everyone's experience or even necessarily the majority for "gifted" kids or "smart" kids and people who had experiences to the contrary do exist. Obviously I went to school with a bunch of kids who were also in my AP and Honors courses, and I can't say that too many of us(if I could even think of one who particularly stands out as stressed out)were running on anxiety fortunately. Actually in high school most of us were balancing our courses, being officers in organizations AND sports. And that was just how we all operated most efficiently. Busy busy. :)
Yes, and a majority of the time the way these programs would raise confidence in these gifted students would be implementing a superiority complex in their heads.
@@FellDownTheCornHole 🤔Hmmmm. Idk. I don’t think it’s the program creating a superiority complex as much as it is a self-imposed inferiority complex for those who aren’t in the program.🤷🏾♀️ If anyone believes they are superior than the next person because they are more successful at school work, they have a lot of growing to do as a human being. @@gerhardsmith7892 I don’t believe that Amber Heard is lying. No woman has ever gained anything good from having abuse/assault allegations against a powerful man. Also, if Amber Heard has a dent in wether you believe victims, then you probably never believed victims in the first place.
@@janelle.c0re Except that: 1.- She has been proven to also victimize the other guy 2.- Women (and people in general) have lied despite not winning anything from it, and that's also proven 3.- She is also a powerful woman, don't try to pretend like she was swimming against current 4.- What you call "victims" are not victims unless they are telling the truth, and like I just said, "victims" have lied before 5.- I never said that Amber in particular has a dent in believing "victims" or not, I said women who have lied about such cases do
@@gerhardsmith7892 1. Amber hasn’t victimized any other guy, otherwise you would’ve named them. 2.I am specifically talking about women in Amber’s situation. Women in that situation are harassed, interrogated, and subjected to victim-blaming. They know they won’t win anything out of exposing their abuser -especially one that is loved by the public- but they do it anyway because they are telling the truth. 3. Amber is a powerful white woman in some form but if we put her against Depp- a white, powerful, famous, rich 59 year old man- then she is considerably less powerful. 4. Your basis for someone being a victim is not based on IF they are telling the truth, but whether YOU believe they are telling the truth. 5. You specifically said, “People would believe other people more if people like Amber stopped telling lies”. You based your belief on Amber “lying” as a connection and fault as to why other people didn’t believe abuse allegations by victims/survivors. Therefore, you stated that Amber is somehow “damaged” the credibility of other victims to be believed, you literally blamed her for how other people responded to her trustworthiness.

@@chocolatitac9365 Because the current discourse is coming from straight women right now, not gay men. No one said gay men can't also be biphobic. But we are talking about straight women right now.
As someone who was a “gifted kid” it did mess me up although I don’t make it my entire personality or talk about it because it happened forever ago. But being told at such a young age that you are so extraordinary and special and then growing up and realizing you’re either and you’re just average makes a person really bitter I think. Also schools tend to really glorify certain careers and going to college so if you’re told by every teacher yeah you’re going to be a doctor/lawyer/scientist etc and then you realize what is necessary for this careers it makes sense why most people aren’t those. And schools need to tell us it’s okay if you don’t want go go college.
it's setting children up for failure imo bc it seems to be hard to completely come back from without getting crippling doubts about yourself or others? like it doesn't just make one bitter but also lost and it can really have devastating results, the whole thing is weird to begin with idk

If you believe that your field is superior or "smarter" than other fields, please grow the hell up. STEM is not superior to, say, liberal arts or vocational schools. My young self used to believe that shit until I realised that it is utterly nonsense. Every field, every honest occupation is important, and we will need them one day. Just because two fields are different, it does NOT mean that one has to be superior to another. I think I am quite lucky to be in a friendly and supportive atmosphere while I do postgrad abroad in my STEM field, as someone who is Asian (born and raised in SE Asia), transgender, and neurodiversed. This is in the UK, so I would have totally no idea how terrible racism and misogyny issues are in the US. I am also clueless about STEM studies in the US.
the girl whose tiktok you talked about actually lived like down the hall from me in college and she is so sweet and smart and she's always been a really hard worker. i felt so bad seeing her get dragged :/
The bias some have towards the humanities/social science majors are rooted in misogyny/patriarchy as well. “Hard” sciences such as chemistry, biology, engineering, etc are usually seen in society as being “factual”, “active” & “real”, characteristics typically given to men. Non-stem majors are looked at as “passive”, feminine, “soft”, “unreal” & “easy” (stereotypes forced onto women) because it is deals with the nature of things/people. Even within the social sciences there are some who discredit qualitative methods because there’s no “math” or “science” involved. It’s f*ked up because college in general is not easy and everyone should focus on what they need to do to be happy. -from a fellow Sociology major💓
About the Day in the Life hatred, maybe part of it is because some people take the title of these videos to heart. They truly think that this is how each day of their lives go, sipping lemonade and doing no work while getting paid.
@@gerhardsmith7892 Gerhard, I know I'm late but I'm seriously concerned for you. This is possibly the 6th comment that I've seen from you and it's obvious you don't agree with many of the opinions in this video and the chats in the comments. Understanding the "other side" is crucial for critical thinking skills, but arguing your way to the top will not and is not making you seem any more logical than it is making you seem opinionated.

Thank you for defending Heard. As someone who grew up in a household w domestic abuse and is bisexual, it was terrifying watching the social media response to her testimony. It’s awful
The generation that swears they have learned from the story of Britney Spears are repeating history with this defamation suit
Thank you for everything you said about stem majors! I’m a history major and Im so tired of people saying it’s useless. Learning, recording, and knowing history is very important to peoples survival and just basic knowledge of the world we live in. We need it!
The stan twitter thing is so true, so many gay men (however still a small minority of a great community)will come at women so negatively and say the most sexist things but excuse it by them being gay.
In case anyone wants to try and call me homophobic I myself am LGBT+, I'm simply pointing out an observation
Yeah, your 1000% right. Being gay doesn’t excuse sexism.
it’s horrible how a woman speaking up about getting abused and sexually assaulted is getting mocked and made memes of.
Standing ovation for the ROAST of biphobia/homophobia. 🤣🤣🤣 don’t come to gay clubs if you’re biphobic/homophobic. Stay in your damn lane.

To the people who want to see a great video on anti blackness in movie adaptation watch Yhara Zayd’s video about the day Rue turned “black”.
I love that video!
We back in business with the iconic series!!!
Thank you for bringing up the biphobia. They will say it’s for their health like??? You think these straight men are CLEAN? They’re just repurposing stereotypes.
Exactly it was a much needed conversation
Aren’t there het men who don’t wash themselves cuz they think it’s gay???? Y’ALL REALLY THINK THE GAYS ARE THE DIRTY ONES??
Yet people still date straight men
NO LITERALLYYYYY. Even if they're worried about HIV, most promiscuous guys who sleep with men are on PrEP, and actually contract it at a lower rate than promiscuous straight people who are mostly not on PrEP
SO glad you said that about ppl making fun of an abusive situation on fucking tiktok.. she was recounting the abuse and terrible things this damn pirate did to her and all people cared about was her dog stepping on a bee..
Since then, I have been able to adapt and let go of the "gifted" label.
the same thing happened to me!!
This series is back. Beyoncé is on the horizon. The world is healing
Haha
Black Panther 2 trailer just dropped too. July is giving what it needed to give!
THE GIFTED KID PROGRAM
Ask anyone who was a gifted kid, it’s not just the extra books, it’s the constant telling of kids their better than their peers, treating them differently, I literally got on a bus to a go to a different school when I was 9 (4th) for a block of time to learn from the gifted teacher with a small group of peers, and then we’d come back outta nowhere to regular class.
Idk. I don’t think it’s the program creating a superiority complex as much as it is a self-imposed inferiority complex for those who aren’t in the program.🤷🏾♀️
If anyone believes they are superior than the next person because they are more successful at school work, they have a lot of growing to do as a human being. And anyone who feels less than because school is not their thing can be assured that there is more to life than school. It will all be okay.💁🏾♀️
That pivot from "get a job" to "no, just go find something better to do bc fuck capitalism" was beautiful

The difference between her and 97% of victims of DV is she was lying. Watch. The. Trial.
People would believe other people more if people like Amber stopped telling lies
@@gerhardsmith7892 I don’t believe that Amber Heard is lying. No woman has ever gained anything good from having abuse/assault allegations against a powerful man. Also, if Amber Heard has a dent in wether you believe victims, then you probably never believed victims in the first place.
@@janelle.c0re Except that:
1.- She has been proven to also victimize the other guy
2.- Women (and people in general) have lied despite not winning anything from it, and that's also proven
3.- She is also a powerful woman, don't try to pretend like she was swimming against current
4.- What you call "victims" are not victims unless they are telling the truth, and like I just said, "victims" have lied before
5.- I never said that Amber in particular has a dent in believing "victims" or not, I said women who have lied about such cases do
@@gerhardsmith7892 1.

A lot of gay men are biphobia too , I don’t understand why everyone worried about what straight women or bi women prefer when it comes to partners.
!!

About the Day in the Life hatred, maybe part of it is because some people take the title of these videos to heart. They truly think that this is how each day of their lives go, sipping lemonade and doing no work while getting paid. It’s a part of another topic of how people only show the best moments of their life which makes them seem interesting to strangers, even though those moments only happen every now and then. We only see the highs, never the lows

I definitely needed to hear the 10 year old achievements message. For a while I’ve been beating myself up over what I used to be good at, instead of what I’m good at and achieved now (going into the medical field is not something 10yr old me could understand 😂)
also idk why doja's ass decided tht making fun of ambers SA was funny? its crazy to me, bc she literally got a song called woman? what happened to "they wanna put us against each other" "like were regina gorge on mean girls"💀
Where is the outrage for a man that gets physically abused by a woman? Anybody who gets physically abused deserves to be defended and if they are telling the truth they need to be believed; man or woman. Also, lying about being abused and wrongfully accusing others is despicable.
Literally everyone was like “We learned from FreeBrittany. We won’t let this happen again. Protect women!” and then they all turned right around for this 💀 like girlies… what did we just say?
@@BeautyIsMyLife There WAS support for Johnny Depp - overwhelming support. The amount of mockery directed at Amber was proof of that. So were the crowds of people outside the courthouse cheering for him and handing him gifts.
@@emilybeach238 I meant where is the support for it on this video and this comment section. I'm a woman and believe me I like many women have dealt with sexual assault and I've also dealt with just everyday petty sexist crap from men. I'm 50. I lived through a lot of women not being believed and not being taken seriously. So I was not quick to believe that Amber was lying. However if you look into this case you'll see that she is the abuser and he is the victim. She lied about abuse in a very public way that will set back people believing women that were really abused. She is not somebody to be supported.
@This Nigerian Loves Drinking Garri Any rational person who looked into this case and watched the trial would not agree with you. People who have outrage for Amber haven't taken the time to look into this case; there can be no other explanation. I understand that on the surface we want to believe women. She is an enemy to all true victims that are not believed because because of the mockery she has made of DV and SA.
