Many Putin supporters believe that Ukraine mistakenly attacked Russia. Some naively made up that Zelenskyy had declared regret.
Fourteen reasons why Ukraine attacked Russia:
    1) Switching from defense to offense boosts the morale of the Ukrainian army.
    2) Makes the Russian people distrust Putin and shows Russia's inability to defend.
    3) Russian pilots and missiles cannot freely drop bombs or fire as they did on Ukrainian soil.
    4) Russian troops have to spread out to protect thousands of kilometers of the border.
    5) Makes Russian troops lose morale when the rear (Russia) is attacked.
    6) Putin will be angry and fire personnel (change generals, ministers, etc.), which will cause many inappropriate changes.
    7) Russia will have to spend time and money to build a new defense line.
    8) Russian pilots and missiles have to fly further because airports near the border are destroyed.
    9) There are conditions for negotiations.
    10) Make NATO countries support and trust.
    11) Have to spend effort and money to evacuate >120,000 Russian civilians.
    12) Putin forced the Russian parliament to approve the use of Nuclear when Russia was attacked, making NATO & the US afraid of this red line. Ukraine's attack on Russia proved that Putin did not dare to use Nuclear but only threatened.
    13) Captured many Russian soldiers because most of them were children of high-ranking officials, so they were allowed to stay in Russia and used them for negotiations.
    14) Obtained information on Russian troop movements and military supplies.

Leave it to this country I was born in, America. It's always "Hindsight is 20/20 for them." Always too little too late. If they had listened to Churchill, the Prime Minister of the country of my parents, after WWII, most likely wouldn't have had this issue. Churchill had already foreseen USSR as a problem and was trying to five Poland and Western Allies a cushion. He saw USSR as a "metonym". The plan was nixed because the US didn't go for it and England weighed the fact that even with the participation of US and Canadian troops, the USSR had the manpower advantage and the war would have dragged out.

@@shyft09 The thing is it wouldn't be WW3. In a Theoretical situation where Russia declares war on NATO. It would be Russia alone against NA and Europe. That is not a world war. It would be NATO Occupying and Balkanizing Russia into several different nations. "What about China?" China ain't helping them. Hell China might stab Russia in the back and take control of their Eastern Coast. Cause Vladivostok and other Eastern territory would be of strategic interest to them. India aren't joining a War on the side of Russia. So it's Russia and Belarus vs Europe and North America. In what way does Russia win, Ukraine has invaded their territory alone and captured POWs because the Russians have conscripts on the frontline. They have military tech from the 80s. A war with Russia would end in a week or two if we put boots on the ground. Putin might try to use nukes. But here's the thing we could probably take out their weapon systems before they have a shot at using them. People are so paranoid. They don't seem to understand how skilled our military forces are. The difference between the US and Russia is America has troops who are veterans and have seen conflict for twenty years. Russia has 18 year olds with no real training and military rations older than their parents. I don't think people truly understand how bad this war is for Russia. Before the War people thought them a significant power. Now they can't even beat Ukraine and have an incompetent military force where most of them don't wanna be there.

Each member is assigned to specialise in some capability to enable the coalition to do more with fewer resources. Ukraine is unmatched with drones. I don't care that the US has 100 times more funding for drones and sign all the big arms contracts. Nothing propels innovation and combat effectiveness like fighting for your nation's survival. If Ukraine had to face Anduril's most advanced anti-drone tech they'd probably find a solution after one month involving a $300 cardboard drone and a $25 home made pipe bomb.

Take a close look at the map, and in particular, the Russian border defenses on the south bank of the Seym river.
Ukraine has already surrounded Koronevo, so there are no OPSEC reasons to avoid a discussion of what Ukraine is on the brink of accomplising (and this is even assuming they arent planning something even bigger). With Korenevo surrounded and Suzha fully under control, Ukraine has not only overrun/taken control of the border defense segment between those two towns (two entire rows of defensive lines), but more importantly, they have cut off the ENTIRE Russian border defenses on the south bank of the Seym river from Russia. Korenevo is the transport hub for that entire area, so once Ukraine secures that town, every soldier in the trenches between Koronevo and Tychkino will find themselves separated from Russian territory by a huge marsh and river -- the river Seym..
There is only one crossing left, as an alternate to use for supply, or for evacuation of troops and equipment. It is a small bridge at Glushkova that is already under bombardment.
In short, Ukraine has cut off a FIFTY KILOMETER LONG stretch of trenches from their supplies and the only way for the (poorly trained and largely conscript) troops who man those positions to retreat is by swimming/wading the muddy marshes of the Seym River. They may have only announced the capture of a few hundred, but look forward to news - in the next few days - of Ukraine taking multiple thousands of prisoners as they move into the settlements on the southern bank of the Seym (Im spitballing based on the units deployed in that area). That accomplishment alone will be huge. But tactical wargamers will also see that it secures a defensible flank, allowing them to strike south ... BEHIND the Russian border defenses. Those defenses can be defended in either direction, so every single kilometer that falls behind the spear of the current advance will become a part of Russia that the Russians can only take back at dear human cost.
I suspect that this is just a bloody nose attack to seize small parts of Kursk and Belgorod oblasts that are easily capable of being supplied and defended. But if Russia fails to redeploy HUGE numbers of troops to fill the breaches, Ukraine could conceivably roll up the border defenses all the way to Belgorod.

In 1941 The West, I mean not only Hitler, but Hitler and a lot of other countries contributed, they put together the largest invasion of all time, so it was 3,8 milion troops, 3350 tanks, 600000 vehicles, 2770 aircraft, 7200 artillery pieces and they took Russia almost by surprice and Russia was in weaker position than it is today.

If Germany would not have attacked Russia, than my parents would most likely die in gas chamber and I would not live now. USA and Britain would not have had any chance to liberate whole of Europe, because 90% of Hitlers´s huge army died when figting Russia. Without Russians history would be very sad and 100% different. That is why I hate rusophobia and NATO too. BTW , NATO leader(USA) hit Germany last year..Nord Stream. What a disgusting leader. NATO is stinking to me, not Russia. On the other hand, Russia is anachronistic judging by their employment of trench warfare in the modern battlefield during their offensive operations. Russia against the Nato.
To anyone confused on why Russia started the invasion of ukraine, its because ukraine was trying to get into NATO and NATO at the door step would mean 1000 times more risk of such incursions anytime from russian's west.
Historically, russia has been invaded from the same path multiple times.
Napoleon to hitler, that paranoia is real.
Because, there is no natural barriers like mountains or any such terrain, if ukraine would have joined Nato, russia would have to spend tremendously on their border defense against NATO.
And considering Nato was created to counter ussr/ now russia. And sèes them as enemies.
Russia had to choose. They chose to invade ukraine pre-emptively.
The people from west are majorly good people, but their politicians have been nasty on the whole world.
      Always destabilizing effect.
Be it syria, iraq, vietnam, korea, Afghanistan.
Whole middle was so damn rich and developed, now allnin rubble.
Dont see this war in black and white.
I too support Ukraine, however understanding the reason for this war is vwry important....
Russia had to... or Russia was pished into the corner to get into this war with ukraine.
Remember this: Russia would choose a world with nuclear winter over a world where Nato is at its doorstep.
