Patient interview 3 days after totally thoracoscopic ablation and left atrial appendage clipping

Stand alone atrial fibrillation treatments are becoming more popular. This relatively young patient came to us for a totally thoracoscopic left atrial appendage clipping procedure form the UK. I convinced him to also let us deal with his long standing persistent atrial fibrillation. We did a TT Maze which is composed of a totally thoracoscopic ablation (box and pulmonary vein isolation) in combination with a Clip closure of the left atrial appendage. The procedure took one hour and the Patient went to the regular ward the same evening. This interview was done on the fourth postoperative day just before the patient was about to leave the hospital and go to a hotel. Postoperative ECG and telemetric surveillance showed stable sinus rhythm. Echocardiography demonstrated a normal cardiac function in sinus rhythm. The patient was discharged on no anticoagulants and is doing fine.

2. year Follow-up….
Dear Doctor Salzberg
I hope all is well with you and your family. Plus you are able to keep up your excellent work in these trying times.
I know you like to monitor the progress of your patients and their ongoing success. Well I am pleased to report that this week marked 2 years since my operation and all is well.
I have attached an ECG (see below) I did earlier today showing heart rhythm is still normal and beating in mid 60s per minute.
So thank you again for your brilliant work from one very satisfied patient.
If you venture again to the UK please let us know. Likewise my wife and I plan to visit Zurich and again but this time as tourists! If either happens we would like to treat you and your wife to dinner.
