I just discovered this album yesterday and I've gotta say this is the best album I've ever heard in my life. This is what I've been looking for.

The amazing thing is that the lyrics are so complex and deep, almost like they’d be better suited to a book, and yet James still created extremely memorable hooks to them. And you wouldn’t think the words would work as lyrics, they’re awkward and don’t fit any musical meter, but it just seems to fit. It’s disconcerting at first, but over time, it knits together in your mind and fits perfectly.

For about 10 years I was so obsessed with the manics that it ruined my life. I still love them but I'm happy to say I'm no longer addicted.

Monkeyliver19 Id rather not go into that on social networking, but let’s say I copied many of the more destructive things Richey used to do.

You're right, but you misunderstood what the first commenter actually meant. All they meant was "this is my favourite album". Regardless of the words they typed, as you pointed out, it's impossible to actually genuinely apply the true categorical nature of the words 'best' and 'ever' to something like this. So why pick him/her up on something you know they couldn't have actually meant?

in what way did it ruin your life may I ask? - I'd of thought that to be completely engrossed in the music output of one band was highly desirable.
Manics hard-core fans were tiresome back in the day.

I presume that directed at me. Well I was one of those hard core fans who thought Richey was God. I wanted to be like him, I wanted to write poetry like him. I cut myself, I drank, I was seriously depressed, because I was under the illusion that I HAD to be that way in order to be the kind of genius that Richey was. Hence I was a very impressionable 17, 18 year old at the time. That's what I mean when I said it ruined my life, but I must admit that "Ruined my life" is an exaggeration.
I like to think that now I'm 37, I've grown up a bit. It's weird but I don't even particularly care for the Manics these days, and I'm in no way part of that Richey cult anymore. It was just a period of my life that I've let go.
