      The past is always beautiful, the future like a corpse in snow
      Don't get sucked into thinking that everything was better then or anytime in the past and that now is shit.
      There was plenty to moan about back then (and people did).
      There were good things in the past. Mediocre things. Utter shit things.
      Ditto for the present.
      Embrace YOUR life fully. Control only your own actions/beliefs/attitude.
      1) you can't control others
      2) the "rest of the world" doesn't deserve you or your valuable time

    Don't get me wrong here, I love the manics but it's a well known fact that the things that they said about other bands etc were just to get recognised! I don't think for one moment they believed half of the stuff that came out of their mouths.... They just wanted to make waves and sell millions of records.

    • @Sidneyyoungblood75
      @Sidneyyoungblood75 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree with you to a point. I think at least 70% of what they said about other bands was exactly what they thought

  • @neilefc877

    Mr. Edwards, I love you and I think your words are beyond many of your influences, namely Sylvia Plath but regarding your comment about no bands coming out of the UK in the 80s two very obvious examples come to mind: The Smiths and Joy Division.
    One more thing, Guns n Roses are one of the worst bands that have ever polluted the airwaves

    • @buckleyboyben
      @buckleyboyben 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nicky Styles yeah, and Richey liked both those bands

    • @kkow27
      @kkow27 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samantha Marshall i dont know what it was like in the uk but echo and the bunnymen, the smiths, joy division, etc were all mainstream in america

    • @InNegative1
      @InNegative1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joy Division were more or less a 70s band. Curtis killed himself in 1980 (the year Closer came out). I'll give you The Smiths.
      As for GnR being one of the worst bands to ever pollute the airwaves, behave. Locamotive and Coma are 2 of the greatest lyrics ever penned (and that's without even talking about GnR's musicianship). That band were a force of nature, whatever Michael Azarad might have you believe ;)

    • @neilefc877
      @neilefc877 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InNegative1 Oh I sincerely take back the GnR comment. GnR are a fantastic band. In my defence this is a very old comment haha but I take your point about JOy Division being 70s.
      Heres an Interesting fact for you - Ian Curtis voted for Thatcher :)

    The 80s were brilliant, IMO. It was the last decade in which the airwaves were still loaded with bands - like Ultravox, Japan, Tubeway Army, OMD and New Order - who were still trying to innovate and push music forward. The 90s yielded some good records, but most of the era-defining bands were just reflecting the 60s and 70s (which evidently *was* many folks' cup of tea, sure).

    • @jamesthecat
      @jamesthecat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean, but I don't think you're comparing like with like - the ones from the 80's weren't the biggest sellers (Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Shakin' Stevens (!)), and if you look beyond their 80's counterparts (Oasis, etc) you find some genuinely original guitar bands uncomfortably branded as 'Britpop'.
      And grunge (at least, Nirvana) was genuinely as exciting and commercially independent as punk, whilst being quite different, musically.
