    Savage Pathfinder is the best executed product for Savage Worlds or Pathfinder. Well done!!!

    For what it's worth, I've introduced SW Pathfinder to dozens of players. I find it takes less than 5 minutes to communicate what a player really needs to know, using pre-made characters.

    Thanks for this. I like Pathfinder’s class design and the like, but D&D was basically the upper bound for crunch in a game I’m interested in running, so PF is right out. Seems like this might be a decent fit for allowing my group to still access the character concepts in their pipeline without forcing me to keep running D&D.

    I played it once but I was surprised. It reads to be overlty simple, but nope. Savage Worlds works extremely well with the class edges even if they look to be 'simple'.
    What makes it work is how open the character creation is. It is amazing.

    The Pathfinder Bestiary is also fantastic. Anyone using the Fantasy Companion to make their own world would still benefit from the bestiary. SW Pathfinder, Fantasy Companion, and SW PF Bestiary are all home runs, honestly.

    Savage Pathfinder is for me. I have not yet gone live with it, but I was looking for a non-D20/D&D system that could effectively simulate the dungeon crawl aspect of those games. So, I ran across a TH-cam video about Savage Pathfinder and decided to buy the boxed set.
    I was rewarded with an excellent product that seems to tick every box on my list. I've been developing my homebrew setting and am nearly ready for the first test run.

    Pathfinder 2.0 is pretty much SRD free. The OGL is included only to allow others to use Pathfinder 2e in their own work. As for the decision between Savage Pathfinder and Pathfinder 2e, if you like the setting but want a less crunchy game: Savage. If you want the crunch, 2e. Homebrew or adapt other settings if you don't care as much about the setting.
    I found Pinnacle back when original Deadlands first dropped. I really liked how the game system that morphed into Savage Worlds was an outgrowth of the Weird West theme. Some of the flavor is still there in SWADE, but it has been streamlined and parts of it deleted as a result. The full library of original Deadlands books are available in the Pinnacle store. Much cheaper to buy the whole set at once than getting the piecemeal. Even if you never play it, if you're "system curious" like I am, it's a really cool system and the lore is much more fleshed out than what we have currently for Deadlands

    Good review. My group tried Pathfinder 2.0, and did not care for it (we found it over-engineered and clunky). We took to Savage Pathfinder very quickly. It is working quite well for us.

    Savage Pathfinder might be my favorite Fantasy rpg. I had played neither PF or SW prior to getting it last summer, but it really feels like a perfect blend of both. I've GMd, ran a 1 on 1, and solod it (getting ready to solo Sandpoint this weekend). My complaints are minor - rulebook organization and navigation isn't the best (but this is a common pitfall of rpgs- for rule x, turn to page y), the advanced players guide offers 1 or 2 new options for the classes/races found in the core rules, and adventure that came with the gm screen (ported over from PF1) didn't really grab the party I GMd for and I wish instead a different adventure had been provided perhaps in the corebook or for free (the party I GMd for were relatively new to rpgs). I have never had an interest to play 3e, 5e, or PF1, Savage Pathfinder on the other hand very quickly rose to one of the funnest rpgs I have played. Which is to say, there is for sure a market for this game and I look forward to future products for this game (such as second advanced players guide for gunslingers).

    Great video. I backed the Kickstarter and will actually be starting savage pathfinder in the next two weeks (it was going to be a dnd campaign but all this stuff kicked off with the OGL and i don't feel like giving WOtC any more of my time or money!)
    Has this stuff with the OGL given you more motivation/drive to focus on Saving Throw again? I know you put out a tell all video end of last year and it sounded like a wrap up video for the channel. I hope this doesn't happen ive loved saving throw for years!
    Again great video!

    • @Savingthrowshow

      Thanks for watching! The OGL was happenstance - I've been working on this series of videos for weeks before OGL news broke out. Production at Saving Throw is still going to be slow and entirely dependent on word of mouth getting out - but hopefully this revitalized direction for the channel works!

    Been playing Pathfinder 1 since the beginning coming from DnD all Editions. Pathfinder 1 is what DnD should have gone to, amazing system. I've seen Pathfinder 2 books and play, but not as much of a fan. It's simpler, probably to compete directly across from 5E, but if anything crunchier and not as versatile or realistic, at least I think so...

    Does the Savage Pathfinder include rules for converting between SW and PF?

    • @Savingthrowshow
      @Savingthrowshow  ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't have a specific conversion process. Character creation and beasties have pretty direct parallels so it's easy. But you'll need to do a little work matching mechanics for other elements.

  • @sethpeterson8261
    @sethpeterson8261 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting. Not sure I understand the point of it though. If it's for people that love Pathfinder, they probably already play Pathfinder 2e. If it's for people that like SW wanting fantasy, why pigeonhole yourself into the PF setting, rather than the open setting/rules the Fantasy Companion provides?

    • @Savingthrowshow
      @Savingthrowshow  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are some key demographics you're missing, however. If you enjoy Pathfinder's setting but not its rules, this could be a viable option. If you don't want to homebrew your whole fantasy setting, this again could be an option. Lastly, if you're brand new to Savage Worlds and are looking to jump into a different fantasy ruleset quickly, the all-in-one of this core rulebook is a pretty good deal compared to the SWADE core rulebook + Fantasy Companion.

    • @dlpatri
      @dlpatri ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm big fan of both Pathfinder and SWADE. Running Rise of the Runelords with Savage Pathfinder for my wife and kids has been a very fun and rewarding experience. I like Savage Worlds rules/mechanics much better than just about anything else on the market. But I also really enjoy all the Adventure Paths and Worldbuilding Paizo has done over the years. Savage Pathfinder combines the best of both.
      Keep in mind that Pathfinder 1e is essentially D&D 3.75. There were a wide variety of settings compatible with 3.5 and Pathfinder 1. A rule system like this makes it easier to running any of those settings with Savage Worlds.
      Also, the SWADE Fantasy Companion isn't technically out yet. Though the pre-order version I looked at a while ago looked very good.

    • @sethpeterson8261
      @sethpeterson8261 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dlpatri interesting, so you already know the SWADE rules and you bought the Pathfinder version to run as well anyway? Could you have just used the SWADE book and your Pathfinder settings books instead, or are the rules really much more different than the video implies?
      If the rules are that different did they by any chance change any of the rules or terminology that are so unthematic and out of place for most settings (especially fantasy), such as using modern day poker cards as a component, or the modern slang "bennies" instead of benefits etc... or is it just standard as-is SW?
      If they did update it to actually fit the theme, do you think the Pathfinder book be the better rulebook to use with the Fantasy Companion instead of the SWADE (if I could overlook the Pathfinder elements)?

    • @dlpatri
      @dlpatri ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sethpeterson8261 I have used pure SWADE with Pathfinder APs before. It provided an okay experience. I recall some anxiety with trying to port so many creatures over myself. The Bestiary for Savage Pathfinder provides a lot of material. If I had to convert stuff today, I'd have a lot more to reference thanks to that.
      The biggest change seems to be with the Class Edges. They even brought over the Prestige Classes. Originally, I was very against having "classes" in my Savage Worlds games; but I really like how they implemented it. You still use Cards and Bennies, etc... I've never had a problem with that sort of thing. Playing cards have been around since the 9th century. And I never heard of "bennies" before playing Savage Worlds anyways. But my players love gaining them, spending them, and forcing enemy WCs to spend theirs. I think there are a couple of new rules. Like, I don't think I recall seeing "Limited" Actions before.
      Regarding the upcoming Fantasy Companion; it seemed like aspects of it were influenced by their work on Savage Pathfinder. For instance, I think it also includes "Limited" Actions and "Armor Interference". But it also seems to add some things that I've been seeing from OSR materials. Hirelings and Structures and the like. I think those additions would complement a Savage Pathfinder game well.
      So, ultimately, I think that Fantasy Companion could be useful with either SWADE or Savage Pathfinder. I'd give the latter a try if anyone in the group is nostalgic for Classes or Prestige Classes. The Bestiary is also an excellent resource.

    • @sethpeterson8261
      @sethpeterson8261 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dlpatri Cool, appreciate your help. Yeah the cards and terminology like bennies and Smarts (there's others I can't think of at the moment) make us cringe at how anti-thematic they can be. Pretty much ruins the vibe and killed the ruleset for us.
      But with the updated Fantasy Companion coming out I'm thinking maybe if we got some fantasy themed cards that don't seem to just be poler cards (or maybe tarot cards?) we can kind of mitigate that bit. Sounds like the only hope for the rest would be to go through the books with a sharpie crossing out words and using more appropriate terms that won't ruin the flavor an S&S setting though. Damn.
      Thanks again
