Thanks for coming with me on my outing :-) I'm very happy to have managed a display piece out of that long slog! Multiple hours of grey rocks without agate will make you question your motives sometimes but it always works out in the end :-)
Oh gee, I'm first! Nice haul, I'm really impressed with how the one at @14:00 turned out, cut and polished. Gotta love the blue bunny, LOL--quite a landmark if you're a local. Those of us that live in the country get teased for how we give directions..."go past the big cottonwood stump then veer right at the Y..." kind of thing. But imagine hearing "...then turn at the big blue bunny.", LOL. Thanks for sharing your walk with us, fun especially for those of us that can't visit New Zealand in person!
hahaha exactly! There are also a few airplane mailboxes around there too :-) yeah im very happy with that agate, the day would have been quite the fail without that salvaging the outing. Perseverance is often the key. I know they're there and sometimes its just putting in the hours. Cant wait to get out there again!
It was interesting hearing about the agates you have found on the rangitata. I have been going to the beach and just picking up interesting stones but recently have found some interesting stones and would love to know if I have picked up anything interesting. I have been to both the north and south side of the rangitata and just last weekend met a lady who new you. Did you live in Ashburton? I live in Geraldine but I love the Rangitata. I took a friend's children on two occasions and now they are hooked and the 9yr old has a good eye at finding the unusual. Could you put me in touch with somebody who might be able to look at what I have collected. Are you at the beach or up the rangitata river to find what you do. Would love to hear from you sometime if you the time. I love the Rangitata it has been a big part of my life. Kind regards.
In this video I reckon he's in the lower reaches of the Rangitata near Coldstream. I have not yet however, figured out where he accesses the riverbed. In another of his vid's he is beach fossicking at Lowcliff, very near by. This evening I accessed the riverbed on the northern side by Old Main South Road, off Ealing Rd. Perhaps you might consider a mission to Arundel Bridge...
Hey man love your videos. They have inspired me and i have started a nice wee agate collection. Do you mind if i head to this same spot im not a local there im from chch but have managed to work out pretty much where you were i think. I started small and am working back towards the source i have done birdling and about 10km of the beach north of rakaia. Now for the river beds then up them there hills 😂😂
Thanks for the videos. I grew up on a farm near the Rangitata and spent days upon days with my head down rock hunting along the beach as a kid, this brings back a lot of fond memories (I recognised the bunny instantly). I had a small collection of interesting finds until reaching my teens and gave up the hobby and buried them on the farm :) Subbed, cheers!
I think you are cutting them not wrong, but not to the stones full potential. I did this for years (I'm 64) & the stone will let you know where to cut it. The one you called broken, I'd of cut the opposite to what you did. Some I've seen you do, should be sliced then tumbled. The rest are beautiful. I'd take your scrap and make cabachons. Keep at it kid... you'll get there.
So envious of the agates you find!
Oh wow amazing finds ! Love the one at 11:10 !! Thanks for taking us along and sharing your great finds :)

I can seriously see why people get addicted to agate hunting. Thanks for sharing.
For the agate with the sprays, the sprays look like dendritic magnesium.
Thanks very much!
@@chalcedonychris7310 No problem, hope every thing is going well and hope to see a new video soon. You are in my top 10 for "rock-hounding" channels

Very nice chris seeing that video makes me wanna go rangi dam it all..
I know man, cant wait till this has all blown over
Just subed, amazing Agates man. Watching from Colorado. Ive been finding some sweet petrified wood.

Thanks Kerin. Yeah i agree that one would have been best cut the other way :-/ will make sure to do it that way next time
Hey mate wot kind of blade do you use to cut your agate
I get a friend to do it, he has all the blades and saws you could ever possibly need. You can start with a cheap tile saw from a hardware store
Cool mate I'll try that 👍
Wot have you been up to lately mate I'm about to embark on my own little mission I live in ashburton
They're dendrites like Ontariorockhound mentioned. Your river water looks like flowing chalcedony. You have good cutting/presentation skill
