Hey Mark, as a long time kettlebell coach and active backcountry splitboarder, I am REALLY impressed with this exercise and your awesome coaching skills. I am going to give this a go in my own training tomorrow, hopefully grasp it, and learn to teach it to my peeps. Thanks for always making such high quality and helpful content. Long time fan, first time commenter :) Take care! Sean Sewell
Great pic of the king of cool Steve Mcqueen in shorts and flip flops HUNKER SQUATTING while checking out Field and Stream at a beach side shop around 1970... the key is to mainly load the front leg
Awesome content as always. Dumb question, if I wanted to do a hunter squat with a 2 handed heavy club, the lead leg would be the side the weight is on? Sorry if I missed this being covered in a previous video!
I think that what is covered elsewhere would be the combo of a stagger stance crossbody pendulum w/ hunter squat. So top hand is opposite lead leg. But the general guidance of getting good at rotating in each of the 4 combinations is made throughout Marks content. Think inside/outside circle with the stagger stance pendulum and hunter squat. Hunter squats normally hold the weight to the side opposite the lead leg so that the club doesn’t bump the leg when crouched.
Thank you for the progression guidelines with kettlebells. My apologies if I've missed this content elsewhere, can you suggest the progression for the Heavy Club to the Double Outside Clean Hunter Squat? I have the Mill Squat Program and would like to work this into it
Rear delt, while doing an overhead press? Sounds like a scapula problem. More specifically, the traps are taking over for the shoulder because the rotator cuff muscles are weak. There's no stability there. I'm willing to bet it's not the rear delt, rather the scapular area that connects to the rotator cuff. There's some good info out there to check for this and rehab it. Lots of good YT shorts
The hunter squat is the basis for all single and double leg takedowns for Folk and Freestyle Wrestling. In HS and College wrestling we used boxing heavy bags for training. We started in the hunter squat with the HB in front. We grabbed and stood up as if we were executing a double leg takedown. I trained the hunter squat alot because I enjoyed getting low but executing a body lock to Russian Suplex (this is illegal in American Scholastic Wrestling aka folk style Wrestling) which is devastating to your opponent. For those not familiar with Wrestling, the USA uses Folk Style Wrestling Rules while the rest of the world uses Freestyle Wrestling Rules. Freestyle allow for more throws. While the USA does will in Olympic Wrestling (Freestyle Rules) it is horrible in Greco-Roman Wrestling. The last time America won an Olympic gold medal in GR was 2000 before that it was 1984 when the USSR and Warsaw Pact Countries boycotted the Olympics in Los Angeles.
This looks like it could be useful, with modification, for training explosiveness off the swimming block. You'd only really need to train the stance on the one side though. Very sport specific.
The crossbody swing to hunter squat with a club is enough of a P.I.A., this has to be insane.
Yep, that’s my least favorite move. Committed to getting so good at it that I love it.
This squat beyond tactical it looks useful for day to day use, i will learn it

Looks great for Telemark skiing - thanks!
Good stuff! This video seems like classic Mark Wildman.
Excellent =)
Great work as always
This move looks like a beast. Gotta try it out
I used to do this with single 16kg. Never have my legs been torched so much by so little weight. I should probably try this version.
Great exercise, can the KB be substitute by dumbells?
Looks like a good exercise.
Can I use front mace press such as in your barbarian squat mace video, but using the tactical squat

Adam is correct

We made a program for hunter squats with order and progress / fortify
The double bell stuff is on the squat program… which is still in edit
Does anyone know if/ where you can get a used adex club set?
What you solution if I have pain in rear delt while overhead pushing kettlebell 🙏
Find out why your biceps tendon is causing your your scapula. Yes, the biceps tendon inserts into your scapula

Is that an SWM650?
learn George hackenschidt squats and do a forgotten old school straight leg dead
Agree. I have videos on that.

Always train both sides. I’ve seen a lot of very productive over use injuries on Proffesional athletes from training only their competition side
Thanks for the demo, but I recommend using a modern iPhone to record instead of that old camera.🤣
Use what you have when you have it
These are great but sounds cheesy tagging it as tactical.😅
Casually double cleaning 70 lb kettlebells
Maybe. Those are adjustable, so it's impossible to say what they weigh by looking.
