Darn birds! Amazing how often we also run into closed trails and areas due to birds nesting. When were there climbing was frowned upon due to a Native American holiday but we still saw climbers. I am amazed some crazy guy built ladders to climb to the top at one point, some of the ladders are still attached to the tower.

Such a towering natural feature has probably had many names over the 15,000+ years humans have lived in what we now call North America. It most likely had a different name before the time of the Lakota Sioux and will one day have yet another name after we are all gone. The NPS does address the name on their website and it shows just how many different names the Native Americans had for the tower: www.nps.gov/articles/devilstower.htm

This place is spiritual. My wife and I just visited last month (June 2021) and had a fantastic time.
It really is a special place. We are glad to here you and your wife had a good time. We both loved it and hope to go back one day.
