    This was helpful as we are in Wall, SD and on our way to Yellowstone. I had a random thought of “should we just run by because it doesn’t look too far out of the way.” Apparently the answer is YES. Btw… we have a FB group for camping/adventure channels that you are welcome to come hang out and share content. It’s called “Camping TH-cam Community Support”

    • @Learningtotravel
      @Learningtotravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darn birds! Amazing how often we also run into closed trails and areas due to birds nesting. When were there climbing was frowned upon due to a Native American holiday but we still saw climbers. I am amazed some crazy guy built ladders to climb to the top at one point, some of the ladders are still attached to the tower.

    It's actually called bears lodge a Lakota sioux Indian legend from the creation stories.

    • @Learningtotravel
      @Learningtotravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Such a towering natural feature has probably had many names over the 15,000+ years humans have lived in what we now call North America. It most likely had a different name before the time of the Lakota Sioux and will one day have yet another name after we are all gone.
      The NPS does address the name on their website and it shows just how many different names the Native Americans had for the tower: www.nps.gov/articles/devilstower.htm

      @@Learningtotravel right up with hell. Native Americans have a much cooler name. Then that satanic piece of garbage. Just like the grand Teton the French explorers had very dirty minds when named that place. They call it 'big breast' I would named a much cooler 😎 name.
