    I just installed my twin stick kit and your video helped so much! One thing to note, when your checking your shifting pattern at the end you have 4h backwards. Pushing the sticks forward puts the transfer case in low, not hi!

    Put a piece of brake line on your roll pin punch. Then put grease and the roll pin in the tube.
    This is what I was taught how to do it

    I had a '73 Bronco that had 2w low. Just push transfer case shifter to detent between N and 4w low.
    Couldn't find any documentation but checked it on lift.
    Worked great for trailer towing on hills (gently).
    2w low, main box 1, 2, 3.
    Transfer to N main box to 2.
    Transfer to hi 2w.
    No prob

    That roll pin is something else. The way I came up with doing it was to use electrical tape and tape that pin onto the end of the punch. Worked great.

      You can actually start it in the fork then put your synchro on and put it up in there. You have to work the shaft around to get the synchro collar on but it works. Then I used a piece of wire don thru the roll pin to find the hole in the rail.worked great, at least on the Ford version.

    If you put the rear in neutral if done correctly you can control just front as well and leave then rear in neutral

    So very dumb question, but can you use this as just a high/low range gearbox without using it for 4x4? Wanting to do a 2wd project where I can use high and low range for torque multiplication without swapping out gear sets.

    This might but a dumb question but when you do the twin stick can you then use 2low on the road or is it still limited to speed you can go like when using 4 low only reason why I’m asking is I’m still waiting on my back ordered 5:13 gears and my truck drives and performs better when in 2 low but I’m scared of doing damage if I run it like that I’m on 42s and when testing it out on back roads it drives like a normal truck in the 2 low position very sluggish and low on power when In 2hi

    can u put the case in front end low range/ with no power to rear wheels? to FRONT DIG out of a situation where the front end of the vehicle has slid downhill and is impact say a tree. just engage front drive shaft and countersteer the hill to become straight again. this is capable of that correct?? thanks

    • @GebBuilt

    ok so im converting my 88 gmc suburban from the 700r4 to an sm465 and np205 transfer case, kinda liking the twin stick idea to be able to have just rear instead of full time 4wheel drive without having to lock or unlock the hubs....do you have to mod the shift shaft? the setup i have is a hand-me-down set but they do switch individually just fine....just curious

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, yes the shaft detents are modified per kit instructions to allow separate operation. Thank you for watching and commenting, God bless!

  • @coherantbliss3483
    @coherantbliss3483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hope you see my question...I bought a jeep with the NP205 installed (well sort-of lol had to fabricate the mount) and the shifter kit was not installed and in a bucket minus the rubber boots. My question is how can I tell if the steel shifter shaft modification was done already by the previous owner? I bought the jeep as a project from a younger guy and he didn't tell me much about the trans. I got the two shifter sticks loose and the two rod-end bolts were already slipped over the two shafts. Your help would be great...so I can find out if I need to do the grinding on the shaft or not. Also, will the twin sticks work if that shaft modification was not done? I can pull/push on the two shafts easily and they do change the gears.
    I just found your vid too thanks and will subscribe. I am not a good mechanic (good fabricator and body man) so I don't know if I would have the confidence in doing the shaft modification because I don't know what's inside the gearbox, what position etc etc.....
    marty

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question! The widening of the detents on the shift rail allows for independent operation of each shifter, therefore, if your shifters operate independently and properly then I'd say you are good to go without further labor. Thank you so much for watching and the great question! I should be able to help if you have more questions, otherwise John at JB Custom Fabrication (who designed my twin stick) is an excellent resource! Tell him I said Hi :) Have a blast with your Jeep! God bless!

    Dumb question I'm looking at Doing this same thing but what's the deal with divorce or what not any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Noble a divorced transfer case is one that is separated from the transmission and driven by a short drive shaft as opposed to being directly connected to the transmission. I know Ford did it on some models and possibly Dodge did too. Good question, God bless!

    • @asdasd-ni8eg
      @asdasd-ni8eg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One reason they may opt for divorced is to partially center the transfer case make drive shaft lengths more equal and to even out angles saves going to double cardin joints etc.
      Mainly aimed at longer taller vehicles.
      The f250 4x4 generally had them.
      Cheers for the video from Australia.

    What's the difference between this type of twin stick and the old Mack twin stick? Does this type still have a high and low in every gear? And can you twin stick shift these like the old Macks?

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! It is not like the Mack Twin Stick at all. There is no shifting on the fly with an NP205 Transfer Case. This setup is only for shifting in and out of front ranges high, low, neutral- and rear ranges high, low, neutral. It will not give the capability of multiplying your transmission ranges on the fly. I hope this helps and thank you much for watching and commenting! God Bless!!

    When I pushed the roll pin through I couldn't find it in the case. Also when you said to keep the hole in place with a t handle or something like it. Mine had already gone back towards the back of the case and I can not get it to move back. Any suggestions there? Do you think the roll pin didn't come all the way out and now it won't slide forward? Thoughts?

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it does sound like the roll pin did not come all the way out. I'll have to rack my brain to think of why you cant get it to "slide forward" though. It's been a while since I've been in this thing! You might reach out to Jon at JB Custom Fab. Jonb@jbfab.net who built the awesome twin stick setup, he's an awesome guy with tons of knowledge! Thank you for the great question, sorry I'm not able to help out more at the moment, God bless!

  • @Crismidgett

    I installed the twin sticks from jb customs tonight and when I attached the adapter to the transfer case and tightened the bolts up to caused my outputs to lock up and not be able to move any idea what would cause this. I took it off and left the bolts loose and it worked fine until I tightened the bolts back up.

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! It sounds like you've got something binding up. I would just have to use process of elimination to determine where your hang up is. I'm not sure what you're referring to as the"adaptor". Is this on a GM setup NP205? Thank you so much for watching and commenting! God bless!

    • @Crismidgett
      @Crismidgett 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      GebBuilt its on the GM Np205. What I'm calling the adapter it the coupling that the shifter arms attach to. As I'm tightening the bolts up on the race track adapter its causing the outputs to bind up there is nothing that I can see that is causing the binding.

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you tighten the bolts/lock nuts do the ball joints(/heim ends) stop rotating causing the bind? If you back those nuts off a bit will it free up?

    • @Crismidgett
      @Crismidgett 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GebBuilt yes I'm going to see if pulling out one bolt at a time will fixes the binding issue or if it is multiple bolts that are too long. When they were all loose it didn't bind

    • @GebBuilt
      @GebBuilt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May need to shim the bolt head away from the ball a bit with a small washer...?
