Proving a horse can be soft, balanced and compliant without excessive force. This trainer can and WILL find ways around problems without invasive pushing, as many horseman do.
used that idea of lead away and 'work' toward home, back in the 1970s to restart a STB mare who had flunked 'track training' and came to my barn because her answer to work was to flip and lay there....( her 3 siblings did the same) she did become a nice pleasure ride and drive horse

@@aliequestrian1301 I like Rick alot. He's a great horseman. But unlike warwick he doesn't challenge his own beliefs. He doesn't really open his mind to different ways of doing things. And he always involves politics in his videos. His crirical eye videos have really taught me alot though.

Do you do this in one ride and continue training 'normally' or do you have to continue this for a few days until they have gone to all the in my case 'spooky' corners?

This was amazing video! Absolutely loving it. I love the mindset of not forcing the horse to do anything, but letting the horse make the decision between right and easy/wrong and hard. They usually, or at least eventually, make the good choice!
I love your videos, always learn something useful! Thank you for sharing. I watch a lot of horsey videos but your empathy with horses appeals to me. My other favorite person to watch, for different reasons, is Elisa Wallace.
Which brings me to a question. Have you ever adopted/rescued (or thought about adopting/rescuing) a mustang and training them for resale? I would love to see your journey through that process.

I was the same as you, a few years ago I started a colt that couldn't walk out at all and now we pony them all over the farm first and they will line out pretty good.
Very inter and cool idea! It didn’t take long did it.I wish I had a big arena like that!.We do have a 60’ round pen, I wonder if I can use this principle in that? I’ll try.

What if they zig and zag in a round pen? I just started riding my 2.5 year old mustang who I started ground driving first but he does the same thing this horse does in the beginning or he’ll back his butt up to the fence and stand there.
I don't like her dodge reaction when the rider goes to remount.....
why does she carry a crop?
I could use your advice. I have a 12 year old mate who was raised as a halter horse by a breeder. Now, she loves my family so much that when I'm training from the saddle, she wants to run to which one of us is on the ground. Yes it's sweet but she really isn't used to being ridden as it is so she us basically you g all over again. Can you offer me so e suggestions?
Have your family stay outside the arena.
I am training a my 7 yr filly that I rescued when she was 5 months. My vet requested that I wait until she was 5yrs old since she was so stunted. My mom got sick and passed away in March so I finally able to spend the time with her to get her trained properly. I have watch several of your videos and you have made me change my thinking and learning to read her. Just wanted to say thanks !! and to let you know how much I have enjoyed all of them.
A 7 year old horse is not a filly anymore. It's a mare.

Need to have my 10 yr old one eyed pony ready for fair by July 31st. I rode him today but had to do tight circle and back him , he doesn't neck rein and tried plow reining and he doesn't really want to bend his nose to turn him just wants to shake his head and stomp at flies , I spent 2 weeks desensitizing him and getting him good with me sitting on him but now I can't get him to go forward, I want to show walk trot
This makes so much sense! I got on my young mare today for the 3rd time. I usually have someone lead me around the school but today I was on my own and she wouldn't go forwards....because she was where she wanted to be! So we just stopped there for a while and then I got off. I will try this next time 😊

I found this video very interesting. I am in the process of starting a QH and I thought moving her out was going to be a problem but I just used the little things to my advantage. (would start in middle of round yard as she likes to go to the gate) so getting her to move at first wasn't too hard. Are you saying in this video young horses are balanced? I think you have to be a pretty good rider to start a horse under saddle as you need to be able to feel what is going on with their feet. I try to make the starting process as easy as possible and do believe a good rider can make all the difference to a young horse

Going back in your training. If your horse can’t stand still at this point you’ve missed some things

What if you’re riding outside the arena for the first time?
You would do exactly as I did here. You may notice the only fence she used was the one towards the barn, so I could have been in 100 acres and it would have gone the same.

@@WarwickSchiller thank you for your reply. Even though my mind is not totally convinced that's the reason why. I appreciate you taking the time sir. I have only come across your channel last couple of weeks and have watched many of your videos since. I have done horsemanship in the past, for me Mark Rashid's books were great and his approach I thought was one I could connect to. Prior to that I had done parelli and studied many others. Then one day I met the greatest horseman I have ever known who changed everything for me..The reason I have explained myself is I'm genuinely curious for answers.
And I think your videos are prettty great with explanations all levels can appreciate
