Indian food has some amazing scientific facts behind it and one of the most complex cuisines of the world, especially South Indian. Keep those good traditions but throw out the bad ones, especially those that are patronizing to women, or seek to divide us by caste. This is a lovely dish and you did a great job showing us how it is made. It looks tasty. However.... The only reason for this bland 'Brahmin style' version of Majjige Huli (MH) where you leave out the heat producing onion, ginger, and garlic, is that these essential vegetables are supposed to arouse sexual desire and lust, and no Brahmin priest, caste, or widowed women should eat them. I find that very offensive to my female gender and to humanity at large. Both onion, ginger, and garlic have enormous health benefits and should be eaten whenever possible. Sexual desire should be encouraged especially in women and even more especially in widowed women who are at the peak of their sexuality and need to enjoy it. These topics should be talked about not hidden under the table. You are denying your own female gender the use and pleasure of their own bodies, besides making a bland, and less nutritious dish. After my Bengali grandfather died, my dear grandmother had to wear white saris only and forgo the colorful ones she wore all her life. She had to give up onions, garlic, meat, and most nutrient dense foods. Why? Because she lost her god - the man. It made me so angry as a teenager, to see a vital, healthy woman who had to submit herself to the directives of others and 'traditions'. Do you see a man giving up his favorite foods because his wife died? No!!! He will promptly marry another. Any Indian widow should get herself a boyfriend (Match.com or similar). Don't marry again. Let his own mother do his laundry. Just enjoy yourself and let him pay for the meals out. If he had to buy what you are giving him for free, it would cost much more than a meal. Men are certainly not worth giving up sexual desire, onions, garlic, meat, etc. I'll take those foods over any man. It is highly offensive to all women to have to do this. Brahmins are a caste. They also deserve to eat all foods. It is time to change these dinosaur ideas and to make food that everyone enjoys equally, and use every vegetable nature created. Stop feeding these myths. Don't make any more 'Brahmin' foods. By the way, why are Brahmins given such importance? How about some 'Vaisya' foods, or 'Sudra', or 'Harijan', or 'Kshatriya' foods? I guess Kshatriyas and everyone else should eat a double dose of onion, ginger, garlic, eh? Since they do all the work and Brahmins just sit around praying? See what nonsense this is, dear lady? Castes are an invention of the human mind, just like Race. In reality, we are all the same. We should all eat the same foods. Indian women, enjoy your sexuality in every way possible. Do not eat foods that prevent feeling carnal desires. If you feel them, it means that your hormones are working well, and are keeping you young. Lack of desire is a form of aging. Avoid that. Eat truckloads of onions and garlic and bypass any recipe that omits them deliberately, like this one. And don't be Brahmin, its too boring.
