Knit baby cardigan sweater for boys and girls FOR BEGINNERS with straight needles in various sizes

In today's tutorial I will show you how to knit this absolutely beautiful baby cardigan sweater, coat or jacket for baby boys and girls between 0-3 months. This little cardigan is knit using straight needles and knit all in one piece from the top down. You can knit this little cardigan sweater smaller or bigger by simply changing needle size, see below. Remember THESE SIZES ARE NOT EXACT THEY ARE APROXIMATE SINCE NOT ALL BABIES ARE THE SAME SIZE AND SINCE TENSION WILL VARY FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER
Size:
NB use 2.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
0-3M use 3mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
3-6M use 3.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
6-9M use 4mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
9-12M use 4.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
**NOTE for the sleeves where I change to smaller needles go down 1/2 needle size from which ever needles you're using above
For the 0-3m size baby cardigan sweater I used 3mm needles for the whole sweater but switched to 2.75mm needles for the end of the sleeves. I used light #3 yarn by Yarn Bee Fresco Fiber and used about 70 grams of yarn. You can also use any DK or 8ply yarn. Here's the link for a bigger size version • How to knit cardigan o...

You said repeat rows 5&6 were the same which is knit all the stitches end with a pearl. BUT then you change the pattern on the 6th row!! 😢 so confusing.
When I start the sleeves it all goes well apart from the back at 47 stitches not 57 . Should that be correct or have I gone wrong somewhere 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😁

I crochet & knit, I learned how to knit when I was 7 but never did much about it. I Crochet more because I find it easier than knitting even though don't like it as much. I want to expand my knowledge in knitting this will be my real 1st project in knitting a cardi 😘

Hi, the instructions weren’t stated when knitting the first repeat. I knitted the yarn over with the stitch and now I have 98 total stitches. Will that make much of a difference even though I continued on? Thanks.

You can continue just make sure to keep that in mind when making the sleeves and body since the stitch count will be different.

I bought the first written pattern in September 2022, is this the same written pattern or is this one different. I don't want to buy the same pattern twice thanks.
It’s almost the same. There’s a couple of things that I did differently. Like yarn weight and needle size. This one is knit all in one piece so you can use straight needles. The bottom is also a little different too.
For those of you who want the measurements as you are knitting, like the length of the sleeves ect, for some reason they are at the end of the video. Unfortunately it was a bit late for me and my sleeves and length of cardigan are too long ( I don’t know why..lol )

In your video, on row 5 when knitting across is there a reason why you knit with the front leg then next stitch knit in the back leg? does the pattern call for that? thanks!
No reason it’s just how I knit. It’s called combination continental knitting. You can knit and purl however way you know how and the end result will be the same. Thanks for watching 🫶

Are you knitting in the back loop?
It’s just the way she purls in the previous row, the stitches leading leg ends up on the back of the needle when she comes to knit it, instead of being at the front of the needle. So knitting it in the back loop puts the stitch into the correct position. Hopefully that’ll make sense to you. 😊

@@knittingforbaby I used to purl the same way myself for a while so that’s how I know what you’re doing. Then I started wrapping my yarn counter clockwise instead of clockwise. That’s what I love about crochet and knitting we all have different styles but so long as we achieve what we want to that’s the main thing. Btw Your patterns are wonderful 😊🧶
