Sharing feedback from the Manufacturer "Hope you’re doing well. Just saw the review for the N314X, nice job! I enjoyed the measurements and critique. There were a couple of things I noted that I thought were worth mentioning or elaborating on. The driver does have a copper shorting ring. Well, it’s actually a thin copper sleeve capping around the top of the pole piece. You can’t really tell it’s there because the assembly gets painted with the copper cap already applied. Once the phase plug is installed and covers the top of the cap and pole, you can’t really tell it’s there, so it can be a bit deceiving. That also reminds me, I can’t divulge too much information but I wanted to mention that the phase plug material is intentionally not aluminum. While aluminum phase plugs can offer the benefit of thermal wicking, the phase plug material in the N314T and N314X drivers was carefully chosen because it proved to have an appreciable number of significant performance advantages over aluminum. I just noticed the comments on the review in regards to “build quality of Eminence” and didn’t want there to be any misunderstanding about the actual amount of engineering, technology, and compassion for quality audio (which you share!) that’s under the hood, so to speak."

That's what came to my mind. Maybe this delrin-like material has better damping in the highs than aluminium. I always look at phase plugs, grilles (or whatever people put in front of the diaphragm) with suspicion and a bottle of butyl rubber in my hand.

    Love the video and feedback,
I have as well been very interested in this compression driver,
Is it possible to have a 10 ten C/D list , that you have test,
    In your opinion,

@josephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding How's this sound compared to other 1.4" drivers like the SB Audience Rosso-65CDN-T?

    • @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding
      @JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The 65CDN-T is a better overall driver offering better dynamics, lower distortion, and a flatter response. But the Eminemce excels slightly on upper treble soundstage depth/low level detail retrieval. Both drivers could stand to be a little smoother sounding however, such as the smoothness achieved with horn loaded planar.

Does Eminence make a 1” exit version of this with a Textreme fram?

    Hello,
if you could pick a 1,4" or 2" compression driver, money aside. What would come to mind in that scenario? :) Kind Regards

Thanks for this review. My impressions were very similar. Great driver but it suffers at the top and has similar smearing to a silk dome tweeter. Switching to the Radian Be both lowered distortion and cleaned up the top of the response. It's a great driver but not an "end game" driver

Did you flatten its response when comparing? It’s quite shelf above 10kHz.

@@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding yes, flattened and tested in a number of different horns

@@gerhardwestphalen well, I’m glad others are hearing the same thing as me. Thx. 👍

Thanks for this. Now I know to save my money and move on to another compression driver.

2007 is not a horn cause it does not change an acoustic impedance. It's just a beam former. Secondly, Seas cannot play below 2k. Third, sensitivities are not even comparable. Cheers ) Good review by the way
PS 700-1kHz resonance is caused by an aluminum cassis of the driver, and must be not observable being properly attached

Compression occurs in the phase plug of the driver.

@@JosephCrowesDIYSpeakerBuilding That's true, but then a pressure immediately drops at a throat, however I suppose that it must drop slightly as a horn expands.

Human ear can hear comfortably up to 15 kHz 😅

The Faital HF1460 doesn't suffer from the concerning build quality of the Eminence. Unfortunitly, the Faital is harder to obtain in North America.
