I think what started it for them was first off Sunshine Hobi breaking down like that. You could really feel how important the recognition of their hard work was to him. I also think they were totally unprepared for Jin bringing up the possible disbandment. But Jin is notoriously honest and straight forward when he wants to be so tbh it's just like him to tell it like it was. At the time they were grinding so hard they had something like 15 hour days, only 1,5 days off a month and some of them hadn't seen their families for a couple of years. Noone can live like that in the long run imo. At the same time they were just starting negotiations for a possible contract renewal, that's why they discussed it so much, and if they were to disband now was the time. I believe they were able to negotiate a better deal regarding time management. They later revealed that when they were discussing it Jin famously said: "Screw the agency, screw everything. Let's just put our faith in the members and the fans and start again." I think that attitude was also why it hit them so hard, that he was the one who brought it up on stage: It was about them as brothers and the faith they chose to have in each other and the fans more than anything else. 💜
This speech is as painful as it's admirable. Showing their raw vulnerability show how strong they are. Love them so much. Their speech for their first daesang (album of the year) and second daesang (artist of the year) are also very emotional and meaningful.

Jk was tired as well and feeling burned out. But to be fair the whole group, was really feeling stressed as well. Their schedules were insane. They had a heart to heart talk, V planned an outing for them to get away. And from that get away, Suga wrote Tear and Fake Love was also created. Suga wrote to Jk and Tae (actually a text message) and I guess it was to support them and tell them he loves them. To their surprise the album they made was a hit and got them the Artist of the Year and other big awards. They decided to continue their contract for Army, for their hard work and support as well. So I guess when they won the award it brought back their hard work and how much they pushed through the stress that wh0ole year. So they were emotional. We love them to bits don't we? V couldn't stop crying even after the show and they were being interviewed, he couldn't say anything - till when they were about to leave.
J Hope just breaks my heart in this one . . can't stand to see him sad. Jin, Jungkook, V really had a hard time. Actually, I am sure all seven did. I can't recall how many times I've watched this and still get teary-eyed. I want what is best for these seven men . . . whatever that may be.

Oof..i remember being SO sleep deprived and watching this.. Many of those awards shows are like 6 hours from the red carpet until the end, can't remember exactly how long this one was but because of the time difference it was the middle of the night through next morning, after a really long day for me. BTS had such a powerful performance that night as well. Many of us tend to watch these live Korean broadcasts with split screens & reading real-time translations from ARMY translators on Twitter.. But they were all so emotional it took them (understandably) what felt like forever to translate what exactly was said by the members. Such an emotional night. Goosebumps and heart wrenching. I feel so so so so blessed to have been on this journey. This speech never fails to make me bawl like a baby. There's a behind the scenes after this happened and Tae & JHope couldn't stop crying through all the after interviews and whatnot. 😭😭 Such beautiful souls. Taehyung's speech was so tender hearted, like him of course. In a different translation he said more specifically that if he died and came back he wished he would still have ARMY. He's so precious. They all are. You can see the look on Jimin's face when he realized, before anybody, that JHope was about to cry..omg.. Such a kind sweetheart. Making myself cry again😭😂 Having a hormonal day😩😂
There are so many things that happened between the end of 2017 and the first months of 2018 but, amongst all, one think that I strongly suggest you, is to listen to a song called "tear" and to read carefully the lyrics before listen to the song (best video is a live titled "BTS (방탄소년단) OUTRO: TEAR Live Performance - Eng Sub"). That song was written by Suga and it is the main reason why the boys didn't disband. So the story goes like this: at the beginning of 2018, everybody was so tired, so angry, so frustrated (keep in mind that they didn't have an entire week off work since 2010, only few weekends) that they actualy thought ok, that's too much, lets end it here. Suga was so sad, desperate almost, that he wrote Tear, gathered the group and played it live to all the boys. And then everybody cried together listening to it and decided to overcame the pain, to trust the group once again and to keep going. Shortly after all that, BigHit was informed of the avoided crisis and right away put BTS' schedule on pause, give them a month of vacation to spend as they pleased. And this is how BTS almost disbanded and how our precious Suga literally save us all 🥹
Never fails to make me cry watching this. Felt so bad for tae. Even after he just couldn’t stop sobbing. There are clips of them having to take group photos and interviews for the media and everyone’s smiling and he’s just in tears 😭
I remember watching the behind the scenes from this day and Tae sobbed for a long time after they got offstage. I remember he also talked about that year when he was Suga's guest on Suchwita and he said that year almost did him in and one of the things that brought him back to wanting to continue as BTS was Suga's text to him ending with "I love you". I'm sure he said a lot more than that....Yoongi is a man of wise words. When I first saw this speech I always wondered which group members were wanting to disband and which weren't. It seemed clear that because of Tae's reaction to Jin's speech that he was also feeling some pain and maybe even some guilt about it. I love them, I'm grateful for them and I appreciate that they continued on. I hope they will always do what is best for their mental health at this point. Yes, 2018 was a really hard year for them without Army realizing it. I think that makes it so hard to watch for us. But I truly believe it was not only because they were exhausted physically and mentally. Of course it was a reason, but some members began to question if it all was worth it and asked themselves what they suffered for. (as far as I know JK and Tae originally wanted to leave that's why Suga wrote both of them a text message and concluded it with "I love you"- it was mentionend at the 2018 FESTA in June) In December 1017 their really good friend Jonghyun from Shinee took his life. And police found him two days after he died. All of them were on his funeral. And I think especially for the younger members it was a wake-up-call. What's the fame and money good for when you feel lonely? What's it good for when the only solution to your problems is suicide? I think they had to be reminded that they are not alone during their struggle and that it's literally ok to be not ok in time. And I truly believe that these experiences set the tone for the "Map of the Soul" album series. One has to just read the lyrics.

We don't know if they were the ones that wanted out, they just mentioned that they had the hardest time at that moment, being the youngest ones they were very down and the others felt so bad since they could not help them (and actually the other 5 were also sleep deprived and tired also)

По поводу твоих слов о Jin и J-hope могу сказать, что испытываю схожие чувства. J-hope, Jin и Jimin - самые весёлые и позитивные люди в группе, у них всегда на готове шутка, чтобы разрядить атмосферу, или доброе слово поддержки, когда кому-то другому это нужно. Они всегда стараются показывать нам свои светлые стороны, поэтому может показаться, что они счастливы 24/7, но ведь это не так, они такие же живые люди. А это значит, что свою боль и печаль они привыкли скрывать, чтобы никого не расстраивать. И одна мысль о том, что их боль была настолько сильна, что они уже не в силах были поддерживать улыбающуюся маску, заставляет моё сердце обливаться кровью. Солнышко Хоби сломался прямо у всех на глазах 😭 и, думаю, именно это запустило цепную реакцию. Видеть, как один из самых близких тебе людей плачет и никак не реагировать - невозможно. И, конечно, весь этот адреналин от получения награды и бушующие внутри эмоции смешались в одну кучу. Но парни молодцы, несмотря ни на что смогли сказать то, что хотели. И так приятно видеть как они поддерживают друг друга. Я так горжусь их силой воли. Они заслуживают всех наград, что уже получили, и гораздо больших! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
