Gordon Goodwin has Wayne Bergeron in his Big Phat Band and he's one of the few trumpet players who can play something like this IN TUNE. Let me state that again, IN TUNE. NOTHING ruins a piece more than out of tune high note trumpet.
Can't believe I forgot I played a Goodwin arrangement! Instant flood of SO MANY MEMORIES, long rehearsals and countless performances of this song (and again; countless other tunes) and it's bars 96-99/3:37-3:40 that could probably keep me talking all night. What a blast!
This recording seems a little fast, although I suppose that is a matter of taste. If you slow the video down to 75% of normal speed you can see what I mean. Great big band, either way. Love the Count Basie groove w/Freddy Green Guitar. This may be the best version of this tune ever. No matter the tempo, the flow of this arrangement is choice.
That drop in dynamic is to die for
1st part trumpet is amazing at the beginning, but extremely hard. Who is playing this piece and has 1st part trumpet. Good luck

sounds like brian macdonald on this record
I remember playing drums to that section in my high school. That section makes you want to head bang😂😂😂
I played this 2 years ago for my high school band and it's so much fun to play
@@taniksatthedisco6013 how are high school trumpet players supposed to play this? they must be a really good band if they're doing it in high school
Gordon was channeling his inner Sammy Nestico on this chart; sounds just like Sammy's style - and that's a HUGE compliment.

I mean Gordon Goodwin chose the tempo and he literally wrote the chart lol
@@Avstinato I have another recording of Gordon Goodwin playing it much slower.
@@robreck6082 would you mind sending that recording lol. I've been looking for a decent live recording of this peice
Was excited to play this but couldn't due to Covid. The piano part was fun

Is the tempo gets faster on end
Who are the studio musicians? Trumpet player?
Every player in GG is a session player. Trumpet could be almost any of them...
Most likely Wayne Bergeron...if I had to guess.
It's most likely Wayne Bergeron on lead but it might be Dan Fornero as he is sometimes lead.
@@zackwoods5077 I'm gonna guess Wayne on 1st since the 2nd part doesn't really sound like him
dang this piece should be Grade 6 cuz of trumpet 1
