I became a Jim Croce in his last 2 years of his life, eventually styling my own guitar picking after him and Maury, his lead guitarist. So sad he was taken while at the top of his game. My love for Jim Croce music led me to his widow Ingreds restaurant in downtown San Diego where I met her, spoke to her a bit, and told her I admired how she stood up for herself against the music industry afterr Jim died. After 51 years of loving Croce music, he still is my favorite artist of all time. His songs are timeless and his voice angelic. Long live Croce music.
I appreciate your leaving a bit of your story and how it intertwined with Jim’s and his wife’s. May his story and music never be forgotten.
@@JosephTurkot I have shared Croce music with many young people as i played his songs to classes I taught for 26 years. One of my nephews, who I sang You Dont Mess Around with Jim, to as a child, now has all of croce music in his electronic collection. Croce is a treasure to be discovered and loved.
I was born in '75 and grew up with my folks playing Jim Croce music (and others of that generation of folk singer songwriters) on cassettes on many long roadtrips across the Australian bush. I remember the profound feeling of loss as a teenager when I found out he had been gone before I ever heard him. So many of my childhood roadtrip memories are entwined with his music, it always makes me happy to hear him played live.
I'm happy that musicians of today are embracing Jim Croce's amazing song writing ability.
Yes, with all the garbage out there today, its nice to hear a good song and someone playing good music.

Definitely takes some repetition, but you’ll get there! I recommend Jerry’s Guitar Bar he has some free lessons on TH-cam, his teaching just fit my learning style for picking

I was really sucked in after about 30 seconds! Didn't think I'd like it with the dodgy E string, and feedback on the voice, but I loved it by the time it finished. I even played it for my wife to listen, she knows how much I love Jim Croce and she was impressed too. Like others here, an excellent attempt at a song that is not easy to play or sing, probably the best cover I've heard, please keep at it Joseph and keep posting. That's one of the hardest Croce tuned to bag, it takes forever to get the fingerpicking down(I do it with just thumbpick and no fingerpicks), then the chorus without running out of breath in the wrong place. You did it good bro. How long did you work on this one? I bet you can do it even better now.
