That checkered border is out of this world - the time spent on cutting out those tiny squares and then putting them on the cake - that takes the cake!!! I love how you whack your solid buttercream and it doesn't move - if I did that to my cake I'd most probably make a big hole 🤣🤣 ! I can do that because the cake is usually in the fridge overnight, so the butter in the icing solidifies and it gets pretty hard! And I got a new square cutter, it cuts like 10 at a time. It's SO much better! Although the squares are slightly bigger. So if I need small ones, I still have to do it this way.

From back in my polymer clay days:For a checkered pattern, cut B&W strips, put them together to form a striped pattern, then cut across them perpendicular to the stripes. Checkered strips! 🤓

You can use an 8" pan, trace that, and then cut the circle out 1" less! I use Rolkem super silver powder mixed with lemon extract for the silver. Everything is listed in the description!

Thank you honey! Just decorating was probably around 7-8 hours. Then another 2 hours to bake, fill, frost. It’s definitely a labor of love!

Thanks Emily! I usually let all the fondant (any thickness) sit for like 15-20 minutes before I cut.
